    Well, Google is hosting a Science Fair and invites participants aged 13-18 to present a project. I need some experiments or topics that I could perform and which are safe to use. I need some Physics and/or Chemistry project *Topics Only* (Which are quite unique) which I can perform safely. "Google is looking for the brightest, best young scientists from around the world to submit interesting, creative projects that are relevant to the world today. " Could anyone suggest me the same? I have already checked with the Official Rules that the participants are allowed to consult their teachers and elders for choosing appropriate topic. Thank…

    Can someone help me with redox reactions . It is urgent. Are these half-reactions correct : It is from this equation Mn2+ + NaBiO3 + H+ -----> MnO2 + Bi3+ + Na+ + H2O Mn2+ ---> MnO2 + 2e- NaBiO3 + 2e- ---> Bi3+ This is another equation : Mn2+ + NaBiO3 + H+ -----> MnO4- + Bi3+ + H2O + Na+ I need the oxidation reduction equation for it . Please explain it to me as you do it. Don't just answer it This is another equation: MnO4- + H2O2 + H+ ------> Mn2+ + O2 I don't understand which oxygen will be oxidized since there are two of them on the left one is in MnO4 and one in H2O2...please give me an explanation Thanks.…

  4. Hello everyone, I am planning to participate in the International Chemistry Olympiad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Chemistry_Olympiad). Needed some suggestions on which books/videos/ and other resources to go for. A List of Good Books with reviews would be quite helpful. Thanks, The Conqueror

    I was wanting to know as much I can on the subject of LSD. What chemical reactions change the perceptions of the user? Are flashbacks the brain releasing LSD at small dosages after long term use, or is it because of changing external stimuli? Can LSD have any beneficial medical applications? Also, is there any validation in the statement that LSD may actually make one smarter (Or atleast more interested in science.)? Why was the CIA so interested with LSD? Any knowledge on the subject is wanted, even personal experiences with the drug.

  7. What does that mean. Transfer of 1-carbon unit. What is a 1-carbon unit, are they referring to carbon number 1(according to nomenclature) of the molecule being transferred or a single carbon atom from the molecule is transferred? Can anyone explain. Thanks

  8. I know that Dicyanoacetylene (carbon subnitride) combusts at a flame temperature of 4990°C. This is hot enough to melt almost all metals, except maybe some superalloys. But what about thermite? At what temperature does thermite burn and how is it actually calculated?

    There is hardly any information on copper II borate on the web. Wikipedia has just a picture of the compound. I'm interested in making it... it's my goal to make all possible combination of copper based chemicals. Can someone help me out? Here's what I've done so far. I've got a solution of copper II sulfate and mixed it with a solution of sodium borate (borax). This produces sodium sulfate in solution while copper II borate (or tetraborate?) ppt. Am I correct in this? Is there another way of making copper II borate? (ie. boric acid and copper carbonate??) Any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

    With a little thought, I made a sudden epiphany recently, in noticing that ammonium chloride (NH4Cl), can actually be split into two separate chemicals, NH3, and HCl. I thought of various methods, how this can be done, however, in ionising, the salt does not form the compounds above, but rather ammonium ion (NH4+) and chlorine ion (Cl-). Is there any way perhaps, to coerce this salt to decompose in the compounds described above, and how can this be done, without having the two products react, to form ammonia salt again. Any ideas?

    Hi, I'm stupid, so when you answer, could you please answer in layman's terms? The chemical formulae mean practically nothing to me, and wikipedia and google already gave me a lot of those. x.x So I'd like to ask about sulphur some, if I may? More specifically, its origins. I know it's an abundant, naturally present mineral, can be mined in its crystallized form, and recovered from industrial processes such as oil refinery. It can be used for anything from explosives to antibiotics, and exists in organic matter. But what I'm curious about is this, are the crystal sulphur, the recovered sulphur, and the sulphur present in foods like eggs and broccoli different kinds of su…

    Hey, so im working on this project for school and the main idea is to heat up water (or any drink) using chemicals. I was wondering if anyone knows if it would be safe to put sodium acetate (in powder form) into a tea bag and then put it in drinks to warm them up? If this is not safe does anyone know of any alternative chemicals that would work? Thanks

Where can I get some sulfuric acid and muriatic acid for the project? 3. Can I substitute pure lead for the tin/lead solder. 4. Is the ending product just a Pb02 anode or something other, or something similar. 5. How hours will this anode last in a chlorate cell?

    Hi, So I built an ozone generator using the corona discharge method and it was working fine at first but then I had problems. Heres how I did it: First of all I used a DNF gas tube sign power supply (neon sign transformer model# DF99-10N IN:120VAC 60Hz 0.55A 6kv30mA). I then used a 4" by 6" piece of glass as the insulator in the middle and I used some steel mesh on each side of the glass and attached the leads from the power supply to the pieces of steel mesh (positive to one side and negative to the other). I secured the steel mesh to the glass using silicone. Now, the problem I'm having here is that the glass is heating up like crazy and the steel litera…

    what i want to know is can a person (Me) from the U.S synthesize and sell chemicals on Ebay to others in the U.S legally without a permit? Not dangerous chemicals like acids, but chemicals like copper sulphate , copper carbonate, manganese chloride and stuff like that? The reason for me asking is its my hobby to synthesize chemicals, so i wanted to know if i could sell them on Ebay for a little extra money.

    I bought a small tank of SF6 so my son and I could do buoyancy experiments and watch balloons filled with it expands over time. One thing I didn’t expect though was that even is a semi-sealed container, the gas seems to dissipate even after just a couple hours. Can someone help me understand (in simple terms) why a gas that is much heavier than air ‘escapes’ and what sort of container I would I need to use to keep a couple cu ft of the stuff around to float balloons on?
