There are three questions I would like to pose, remembering that I am no expert: 1) Why is it not possible to create an artificial magnetsphere around a spacecraft and then focus the resulting charged ion plasma stream as a form of propulsion? 2) What effect will the changing Earth's magnetsphere have on near collision objects trajectories, like Toutatis, which have their own chaotic pole fluctuations? 3) Is it wise to allow the comet sample from Wild 2 (probe:Stardust) to land in the Utah desert in 2006 , when it could be possible for some form of life to have originated in the highly irradiated spaceways? Why not put the spacestation to a purpose for which …

the moon did that. DINOSAUR EXTINCTION i've always looked at the moon and wonderd if dinosaurs saw the same view. the world was a very different place, then, and i wonderd if the moon might have looked different. this started me thinking "did the moon ever spin?". so i asked nasa this question. they replied me and said "it did spin and stopped 200 million to 2 billion years ago." so then i thought "the solar system is 6 billion years old, their guess is one third of all time, maybe this isn't a much looked into question. TIDES : everybody knows the tide and the moon are linked but how? the thinking at present is that gravity, from the moon, pulls at the…

We frequently rank things in science. Words like "primitive"/"advanced"-"inferior/superior" frequently appear in scientific articles, especially in the discipline of biology. Now, the question is why can't we apply these terms to us? The homo-sapiens? Why is it each time that someone writes that africans have a low IQ he's considered a racist? The truth is, that like everywhere else - there are superior and inferior people. There are superior and inferior races. Science can prove any such statement and back it with countless empirical evidence. So should we all continue to believe in lies that all humans are equal? Give me a break. I'm not a racist, I don't have people be…

@ me; You can tell stories here (and post pictures) about (of) the most ugly and the most fancy labs you ever visitid [or know about]. As a meteorologist I spend most of my time in the back of a truck. The equipment is very old - 286 computers, and some "releatively" new laptops. The heat inside is well over 40 celsius. We call it the Auschwitz Lab, and often make jokes about the Holocaust when we're inside of it. :lame:

I am analyzing an object sliding down a hill. I have the gravitational potential energy, gravitational force, Net Force (moving down the hill), acceleration, mass, normal force (on sloped surfaces, that is on the "Y" axis.....i think). How do i find out the force due to friction. Right now all I did was subtract the net force from force due to gravity(mg=F), and got a number. Is that number the force due to friction, if not, how can i find it. Thanks in advance.

Here`s the idea, I want ALL who read this, to think of the individual nubers !, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 for next Saturdays lottery in the UK at 8:50 pm is the draw I`m going to put those numbers on my ticket, I want you all to WILL them to appear, bear with me, I know it sounds a bit screwball! an experiment was done in a TV studio some years back, they were given (the audience) a set of numbers to WILL for the appearance of, it worked at 87% (well above probability!) I wish to test this for myself, and want some volunteers/helpers. IF we DO win the big one (jackpot) all will have an equal share of the money, this money will only goto the serious ones! email me on satur…

I've been reading some recent articles, and it seems as if NASA is altering the coloring on their photos a bit. JPL explained that their cameras pick up more than just visible light, and these images and images with different filters are combined to give their best estimation of what it would look like to human eyes. "Q. Then what we're seeing that's in that Pancam image doesn't correspond to what we'd see if we were standing there? Jim: we have a pair of red filters that give us stereo. The red you're asking about is the infrared filter which is different from the red humans see. We can convert that red easily. We also have a red filter that matches human si…

What are those little pricks of light you see in perfect darkness? There seems to be waves of them moving in organic looking shapes and patterns. Also, sometimes I see these sparks shoot past my eyes after doing intense or sudden physical activity. They follow perfectly smooth, curved paths and move quickly. It is not a mass of sparks. . . just one at a time. They look alot like shooting stars, but obviously are not seeing as I have seen them inside the house. What are they? They are actually quite beautiful and want to be able to make them appear on command like an X-Man. *family drags off to crazy house*

My theory is as we humans grow older in age that some of the things that stimulated us(as made us want to do actions)When we were younger change as an example here we have a child who loves the smell of fress flowers though when he grows up it changes to a single type of plant im getting to the point now so i've also learned that it would be impossible to record the stimultants of every want because you would get very different results such as running makes some people feel good while the other people fell horrid so i believe that stimuli changes as we grow and that everyone reacts differentely to a stimuli. P.S. yes this was written by a 13-year-old.

Dimention and Perception I have thought about this topic while reading the discussion about "Aliens" in this forum, and I must say I can't believe you guys are not thinking of those aspects here. If we'd be talking about General Physics, or theoretical partical movement and such, perhaps I would agree on most of the answers I've seen, but since this is a MetaPhysics forum, I think most of you people forgotten some very important aspects: [*]The human race can only intercept and understand three basic dimentions: What does it mean? Well, it means that we don't even begin to understand waht's out there. Aliens or other life forms, or space itself, can be "moving"…

Ok, I think I`ve finaly flipped my lid here, lemme give you a little background. I needed some Potassium carbonate/Hydroxide. best way to get that for free is wood ash, I had no lumpwood charcoal only the briquettes. DAMN! I only wanted a small amount, and so I set about conducting ANOTHER experiment (the products of which I could use!). 1) what is the least amount of standard charcoal BBQ Briquettes that will make a self sustaining BBQ? 2) Will it work ok indoors and How? and so I tried, I got an old takeaway tinfoild tray and popped holes in it (charcoal likes Air), placed that on my Pyro testing mount, then stacked up the charcoal briquettes, I found that …

Well, i was wondering is it true that for example, you decide to take away food. Like maybe a HOT soup and it gets packed in a plastic container. (The transparent type.) When, you reach home and start to eat/drink the soup, it may contain chemicals that got "degradeD" into the soup due to the heat. This is what some say that cause cancer. How true is that? Similar question regarding styroform(sp?)

Hi everyone. As I am not a thermodynamics guy, but an electronics guy, I beg for your asistance on this forum on my lack of heat transfer thinking. Planning to drill a ~100m deep well in my backyard, it is supposed to reach well beyond a stable ~20°C thermal layer; circulate water trough a long 2" U shaped polyethilene pipe to provide home cooling in ~30°C summers and help warming in ~0°C winters : A convection geothermal heat pump. What are the effects of the water velocity on amount-of-heat transfer ? From analogies on internal combustion engines, the faster the flow the greater the heat transfer - that is why racing engines have high flow coolant pumps…
