I was just e-mailed a link to this site. The band's name is "Science Groove." I don't know if anyone's heard of them but I hadn't before today. With songs like "Hooray for NMR Spectroscopy!," and lyrics like: "Acetyl CoA, citric acid, iso-, Alpha-ketoglutaric, succinyl CoA, Succeeded by succinic, fumaric and malic, Then oxaloacetic starts the cycle again." how can you resist? They don't feel like those horrible educational songs from Middle School but more like inside jokes. All the downloads are free and some are really funny. Check it out. http://www.science-groove.org/Now/

I watched a special about stone henge a few days ago, and it said no one knows why it was built. I want to know the most popular idea so please reply with why you think stone henge was built. I think it had something to do with astronomy, but I'm not sure.

Please take a look at the link below... http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2005-11/uosc-scs112805.php "At the foundation of our model is a simple theory which describes a principled approach to computing surprise in data streams. While surprise is not a new concept it had lacked a formal definition, broad enough to capture the intuitive meaning of the term, yet quantitative and computable…. Beyond vision, computable surprise could guide the development of data mining, as it can in principle be applied to any type of data, including visual, auditory or text." I've read the article a couple of times, and although it doesn't go into considerable depth I'm sti…

an Observation I`ve made seems to support, that drinking soda pop (Sprite in this instance) directly out of the can with a straw will make you Burp more than if you drink it out of the can as normal (without a straw). the straws used ar the plastic disposable sort with the /\/\/\/\/ type bend in them to make the staw flexible at a given point. now assuming that all cans are identical as per contents and volume of CO2, surely you`de comsume the same amount of gas per given volume of liquid. and yet for Some reason, when consumed with a straw, there`s Seems to be more CO2 belches aterwards? I can`t say this was noticed under strictly controled conditions, so…

Is there an answer for this, persay, or is it just a thought process evaluator? You have 4 jars of pills. Each pill is a certain weight, except for contaminated pills contained in one jar, where each pill is weight + 1. How could you tell which jar had the contaminated pills in just one measurement?

In this post I will describe a hydraulic system. For argumentative reasons, please observe that non-compressable means very limited compression to the point that the numbers are irelavent. As in all Hydraulic systems you need a pump, an actuator, and a resivior. The actuator in this case will be a container that is filled with piezoelectric material and hydraulic fluid so that there is no air in the container once connected to the hydraulic system, forming a hydrostatic environment. The piezoelectric material is connected to a volt meter. The pump is connected through a switching valve to both the container with the piezoelectrics and the resevior. There is of…

Hi folks, Got a science fiction story running through my head (they always run, they never seem to sit down on paper, heh) about other dimensions/alternate universes. But I want to set it back in time, perhaps the old west or so. My stumbling block is when did the idea of alternate universes first appear? Before the old shoot-em up days of the west or after? I'm hoping you can adjust my fantasies appropriately. Thanks in advance. Crodley

  12. Many people think that the terms human race and human species are interchangeable. I don't agree with that - aren't races subsets of species? Are races the same as strains? Saying that, how many human races are there and what are they called? Is caucasian a race? asian? african-american?

I bought a Geiger Counter a few years ago, It was a kit costing about £70. I`ve had it tested by a friend of mine at Birmingham Uni, and she wrote a rough list of test results, It`s almost deaf at Alpha radiation, better response at Beta and works just fine at Gamma. that being said, I was wondering WHY it goes absolutely balistic when I put it near my plasma ball or my Tesla Feild generator? I`ll get counts from over 3 feet away! anyone have any ideas what may cause this?

I did a search and nothing came up on Mt. Saint Helens, so I hope that this hasn't been posted before. Here is a nice little website that gives visual updates of Mt. Saint Helens every 5 minutes. It appears to be provided by the US forestry service. If you look right now there is dust coming out of the crater due to recent rockfalls. Enjoy. http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/volcanocams/msh/

The creation of this thread being rightly inspired by Pangloss: http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/showpost.php?p=227050&postcount=42 I don't mind at all! Here are the analogies that inspired this: Pangloss's Grocer/President analogy: http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/showpost.php?p=226783&postcount=36 Then there was the second analogy: http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/showpost.php?p=226909&postcount=39 And my subsequent response: http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/showpost.php?p=226929&postcount=41 So now that you're all caught up... Analogies are attempts to compare two like things, to try to ma…

Hi there everyone! I was reading an article in a scinece magazine today about some development in nanotechnology. What could nanotechnology be used for? I suppose it could be used to engineer things on a microscopic scale and maybe even be used in humans to rebuild damaged parts of the body (Something like nanobots or the like) by reading the genetic code and then working it what needs to be build like a planner? Just wondering - I know this is an open topic but if you have any ideas as too its uses then please post and let us know! Also, would it even be possible to build machines this small or anyhting of any use? Cheers, Ryan Jones

What is a Hologram ? A hologram is a record of the interaction of two beams of coherent light, in the form of microscopic pattern of interference fringes. It is a photographic registration of the interference pattern formed by two laser beams of coherent light. One beam goes straight from the light source and the other is scattered from a physical object. The photographic film or plate is exposed by two laser beams and is processed in such way that when illuminated appropriately a three-dimensional image is produced. .....this is just a spark and i would like you people to contribute your knowledge about it to turn this spark into a big bonfire...

I had a great idea this morning while eating Cheerios. Holographic video conferencing. Think about it. We’ve had hologram technology for a long time now. Same is true for video conferencing. Why not combine the two? Think about how awesome it would be! Here is how it would work. Both of the users would be sitting at different remote terminals designed to seat two people side by side. Each person would sit on the opposite side so that when the system is on and working and the system is taking holograms and relaying them to the complementing terminal 24 times every second, the missing person at each terminal person would appear to be occupying the empty seat at …

  21. Dear users, I'm one of airsofters who look for better understanding on the replica guns. Anyway, I'm here to ask you to toss any kind of information what you know of glass fiber. And opinions, of course. Well, I know some of you would ask me like "Did you check google or any kind of website?" Nonetheless, on the bottom line. I'm talking about the glass fiber that I want to know how strong it is. Well, if you're asking me for specifically questions such as specified ideas. Just tell me what you know. E.g. Pros and Cons. Give me some examples of common products that possess the fiber glass. Thanks.

Dear all, I am posting to ask you a question: We all know form our direct experience that upon a scratch on our skin, our blood is well equipped to heal the skin surface. However, I do believe that this is not the only “self-healing" process taking place in nature, isn't it? My question is: Do you know other examples of self-healing surfaces? If yes, can you please give me a few more examples? Thanks! Fab

Does anyone know for sure... I pull a gatorade out of the fridge.. it's pretty cold but it's a liquid.. Once you take the cap off, from the top down it quickly becomes a frozen sludge.. Is this due to the exposure to air? Anyone know why?
