First off, allow me to introduce myself. I'm a student at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. I was in the International Development program for a couple years but left because it was a very poorly designed program. In the fall I will be starting the Biotechnology/Economics Co-Op program. Anyway, I've been reading my Cell Biology textbook to get a head start. Just finished the third chapter, which kept talking about "energetically favourable" and "energetically unfavourable" reactions. Is energetically favourable synonymous with exothermic? Is energetically unfavourable synonymous with endothermic? If not, how are they different? If so, why ar…

Hi everyone. I am an author, currently working on a young adult series about a boy who has total control over his autonomic nervous system (he can control his heart rate, flood his system with adrenaline, heal himself, grow nerves, etc.). In this universe, there are a select number of people who share his abilities, but this boy is the only one who can regenerate nerves in the central nervous system. Of course, I have to take liberties with fact to make these things "true," but I'm trying to base my explanations in science as much as possible. In explaining why this boy is different from his peers (why he can regenerate, say, nerves in the spinal cord as opposed to ju…

i have this circuit a)while the battery is connected what is the voltage of the capacitor b)how long after the battery has disconected will the capacitor have a voltage of 1/10 of the initial one?. can you tell me how to work it out? for question a) i try to find the equivalent resistance ,by combining R1 R8 (in series) and R4 R2(in series). Can i then combine R1R8-R4R2(parallel)?Any ideas?

Hi, I have a few q's about human parasitology: 1. What is the body site of infection for Sarcocystis tenella. I know that they are found in the striated muscles, but in my textbook (Markell and Voge's Medical Parasitology on p. 149), it says that they can be found in the small intestines in the lamina propria part of man. Is the Meischer tube in cattle/pig only, or in man also? 2. What is the name for the brain of cestoda? Is it mortarium? My professor didn't spell it clearly on the board. thanks a bunch!!

In our degree program we have been asked to do an assignment based on "how effective today's multimedia additional hardware on a pc" and to create a kind of huge report. Following are the things that our lecturer explained us... 1 - To find a video that has at minimum one hour duration. 2 - Download a video converter (encoder/decoder) that allows modifying default configurations. i.e : MMX , MMXTEXT, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4 3 - Input the video (found in item no 1) to the software and calculate the time taking to complete the encoding process with minimum configuration. 4- Then improve the configuration of the s/w a bit more and record the time again. And like wise d…

Calculate the mass of impure KOH needed to make up 1.20 L of 0.60 mol/L KOH(aq)? Assume the impure KOH is 84% KOH by mass and 16% water. mimpure KOH=?...........84% VKOH=1.20L CKOH=0.60 mol/L H2O=16% I tried to do this but i don't think this is right, I don't know what should I do first... nimpure KOH=m/M= 84/56.1056 = 1.497 mol nH2O= m/M = 16/18 = 0.89 mol How to solve this??

i want to know true answers of my homework question<attachment removed> . please see the attachment for three more questions.. (a) For three random variables X, Y and Z, draw any graphical model in which we have P(X, Y) = P(X) P(Y), but we do not have P(X, Y | Z) = P(X | Z) P(Y | Z). (b) Do we always have a graphical representation for a given set of conditional independence rules? That is, the representation shows exactly the given C. I. rules, no more, no less. Is the representation unique?

During high tide the water depth in a harbour is 22 m and during low tide it is 10m(Assume a 12h cycle). Calculate the times at which the water level is at 18m during the first 24 hours. My solution: I found the cos equation: H(t)=-6cos(π/6t)+16 then.. Let π/6t=Θ 18=-6cosΘ+16 18-16=-6cosΘ Θ=1.230959417 Let Θ=π/6t π/6t=1.230959417 Then I don't know what's next....
