Question 155 says An aspirate of a deep wound was plated on a blood agar plates aerobically &anaerobically. At 24hrs there was growth on the anaerobic plate only. the next step is: begin organism identification The answer is to begin organism ID. Why would we not let the plates continue growing? Hi everybody! I have a question. What's the difference between serotype and serovar, in relation to the Salmonella genus? I am doing a HW where I'm supposed to find a test that is able to differentiate between Salmonella enterica typhi and Salmonella enterica Enteriditis. So far, I discovered that the Kauffman-White method is the gold standard. However, there is a drawback (from the website below): "The problem with this conventional method is that it is laborious, time consuming, and cannot differentiate within serovars." Does this mean that by using KW, I cannot distinguish between Salmonella enterica typhi and Salmonella enterica Enteriditis? Glowstar

Hi, I have a few q's about human parasitology: 1. What is the body site of infection for Sarcocystis tenella. I know that they are found in the striated muscles, but in my textbook (Markell and Voge's Medical Parasitology on p. 149), it says that they can be found in the small intestines in the lamina propria part of man. Is the Meischer tube in cattle/pig only, or in man also? 2. What is the name for the brain of cestoda? Is it mortarium? My professor didn't spell it clearly on the board. thanks a bunch!!

Hi, I am trying to run a superoxide dismutase assay for my RBC and serum samples. I need help with the calculations for the standard curve. I am using the sigma assay kit (http://www.sigmaaldrich.com/catalog/product/sigma/19160?lang=en&region=US) with this SOD (http://www.sigmaaldrich.com/catalog/product/sigma/S5395?lang=en&region=US). SOD comes from Sigma as a powder at 3000 units of activity per mg; there are 5 mg in the vial. Thus, there is 15000 units total in the vial. I want to make an initial dilution of the SOD powder with buffer to a concentration of 30000 units/mL and make several aliquots to freeze. I'm stuck on a simple, but stupid question. When calculating, do I simply add 0.500 mL to the 5 mg (=15000 units) of SOD, to bring it to a final Concentration of 30000 units/mL? (Or do I need a final VOLUME of 0.500 mL?) Sorry, haven't looked at my gen chem in so long. Thanks a bunch!
