A ball is thrown upward in the air by a passenger on a train that is moving with constant velocity. a. Describe the path of the ball as seen by the passenger. Describe the path as seen by a stationary observer outside the train. b. How would these observations change if the train were accelerating along the track? So I now understand that to the passenger in the train moving at constant velocity, the ball would appear to go up and down in a straight line. And I sort of see that to the observer outside, the ball would appear to go forward in the air in a downward arc. But for part b, it seems the answer is that the ball would appear to move in a parabolic arc to…

  3. Hello, I have to prove a case from a family of halting problems, where for given input x, the program will return False if program x halts on input 5^x and True otherwise. I know the general proof for halting problem, but in this case the dependant input makes it impossible to test halting program on itself. My attempt was to define a new function to eventually reach a contradiction: B is defined iff B is undefined. Unfortunately I got to different conclusion. Could you point me to the right direction, please? Thank you.

I have two substances 20.0g 1M CuSO4 and 1g Fe. I have found the moles and have calculated this for other reactions but what I am not sure of is if weather i should use both substances for moles in the equation or just one, and if I should use just one then witch one? The equation in -q/1000/m I have 0,00002 moles CuSO4 and 0,018 moles Fe

I am in way over my head here and a little help would be very appreciated. So I did an expiriment in school and am trying to write up the report but I am a little lost. I am supposed to set it all up in a table and calcutale the heat (sorry english is not my first language so I might not be clear on the correct chemistry terms). A few of theese would just be good to be clarified that I am doing the right thing, others I might a big nudge in the right direction. So I had a reaction with distilled water an ammonium chloride (one of 5 reactions we made) I am suppsed to put in the table the initial chemicals/ reaction chemical formula and molemass. next one is the a…

Problem: A physics teacher is designing a ballistics event for a science competition. The ceiling is 3.00 m high, and the maximum velocity of the projectile will be 20.0 m/s. a) What is the maximum initial velocity in the vertical direction that the projectile could have? So I think that the max velocity of a projectile will always be when it is launched or right before it hits the ground, so wouldn't the answer be 20.0 m/s? If you point the cannon or whatever is launching the projectile vertically upwards with no tilt, there would be 0 horizontal velocity, so wouldn't all the velocity be in the vertical direction? But the answer is apparently 7.68 m/s, which I don…

A and B can do a piece of work together in 15 days. They both started, but after 6 days B gets ill and then A takes 30 more days to finish it by himself. How long would each take, working alone? How do I tackle this? Am havina a hard time dealing with this problem. They can do the job together in 15 days. When they both started, they did the job for 6 days. But B could not complete the job due to ill health. This means that it remaining more 9 days to complete the job if both of them are working together. But in this case A spent 30 days doing the 9 days work. Ijust have had time dealing with this.

The question asks to apply born's rule. I know what born's rule is. Squaring the wave equation will give a probability distribution. Integrating this over a distance with an arbitrary constant and summing the whole equation to one (normalizing the constant) will give me the normalized function. This question then give the normalized function and also gives 3 integrals and asks me to prove that the function is normalized. I know that you have to pull the squared constant out of the integral, do the definite integral. divide one by the definite integral and the take the square root of this to get the normalized constant. However, I have no idea how to use the definite integ…

  15. A quick summary: when dish soap touches the milk (dyed to show the movements), the colours will spread outwards and swirl. From what I've heard, this is because the soap molecules are attracted to the fat molecules in milk. My question is how to quantify things (you can't exactly measure how fast it swirls). I was thinking of changing fat content and measuring the drops it takes before there is no movement, but there isn't much you can conclude afterwards. Any thoughts on how to approach this will be much appreciated.

I am currently working on a science fair project about acid rain and its effects on local plant life. I am having difficulty finding data for the amount of acidic rainfall in a specific region. I am trying to determine exactly how much water my plants should receive, which I was going to base on the average rainfall amount for the area. Should I simply use the annual rainfall in the area, or are is there a place I can locate actual "acid rainfall" for an area. I have search the EPA, and several other sites with no luck. Also, would simply misting the plants with a spray bottle be a good simulation of rainfall, or should I create something more like a terrarium? …

  18. I have a question that wants me to prove an equation in the general form for a circle is equal to two brackets each containing an x term, a y term and a constant. From what I understand this is an equation of a circle. I've tried to put it into the standard equation of a circle and working from there, I've tried factorizing the like terms and I can't seem to get anywhere. I've been tried using the quadratic equation with respect to x but with no luck either. Any pointers are appreciated a lot. If I've tried the right strategy and just made a silly error please notify me.

In a small city, approximately 32% of those eligible are called for jury duty in any one calendar year. People are selected for jury duty at random from those eligible, and the same individual cannot be called more than once in the same year. (a) What is the probability that a particular eligible person in this city is selected two years in a row? The answer turns out to be 0.32 * 0.32 =0.1024=(32/100)*(32/100). Why is this the answer? At first I thought it should be (32/100) = 0.32. This is because after we select the first 32 people out of 100 for jury duty, there is a (32/100) chance we select the same person from last year's 32 people. Why do we multiply 0…

  20. I'm currently in grade 10 and I'm doing a lab where we are investigating the effect of temperature electrolysis of CuSO4 to make copper. The data we got was inconclusive. However, I still need to explain what would actually happen and reasons behind it in the conclusion. After some research, I found some sources that it has should no effect but some says it does affect certain reactions. I also asked my teacher and even though he has a brief answer, he still remains skeptical. All out all the sources, none of them seemed really convincing or reliable so I'm really confused right now. So does temperature affect electrolysis of CuSO4 to make copper?

A man drives to a car park at an average speed of 40km/hr and then walks to his office at an average speed of 6km/h. The total journey takes him 25 minutes. One day his car broke down and he has to walk three times as far, so arriving at his office 17 minutes late. How far is it to his office? WHEN CAR WAS NORMAL Speed to cark park =40km/h Speed to office = 6km/h total time = 5/12 h distance to car park = xkm distance to office = ykm time = distance/speed x/40 + y/6 = 5/12 3x + 20y = 50 WHEN CAR BROKE DOWN He walked 3(x+y)km = total time = 7/10 h I think I have problem making an equation for the second case. What do I do?

Any help would be much appreciated Here is the Assessment I'm a sinker. If I try to float motionless in a pool I soon find myself vertical with just the tip of my head at the water surface. It is very easy for me to sit on the bottom of the pool. Maybe that's why I don't like to swim much. How about you? Do you sink like me or are you a floater? How would it be different if you were in alcohol, or vegetable oil, or glycerine, or sea water? Density is the key to your answers. Your answers must include: the densiti…

Organism. In biology an organism is a contiguous living system, such as a vertebrate, insect, plant or bacterium. All known types of organism are capable of some degree of response to stimuli, reproduction, growth and development and self-regulation. (Wikipedia) "we will explore the city as the most complex human-made “organism” with a metabolism that can be modeled in terms of stocks and flows." What do they mean when they said "contiguous living system?" and in the quote above is it really, in a sense, right to say that a city is "the most complex human-made 'organism' with...?"
