Science Education

After taking the required general science course my freshman year of high school, my teacher suggested that i take a more advanced course in chemistry. The only knowledge I have on the subject is what was taught in the general science class. This includes balancing reaction, breaking and forming bonds, exothermic, endothermic, not a whole lot. is there any beginner type book you would recommend to help me get a bit of a head start?

For the Science fair this year I am making a Multi Stage (5 to be exact) Coil Gun, I have it all planned with diagrams, sketchs, and most of the parts gathered, except for the part of the circuit that turns the coil off automaticly so the next one can grab the projectile therby increasing its speed. The total power that my coil gun will be running on is 63 volts and 75.3 amps/hour. Each stage will run at 10.5 volts and 12.55 amps with the last one being double that. I would like to use batteries not capacitors. The batteries and wires will be on the inside of cage made of smaller plastic tubing running through the circular discs of plastic that will hold the wire in place…

Any helpful ways to study for this? Things to review? I'll also probably take the Psychology Subject Test, since my professor said she did better on it than the regular GRE and that can [potentially] help with Grad Schools. For the subject test, in Psych anyway, I've heard it's best to study a Psych 101 book (I saved mine ). But for the regular GRE, what should I start studying? Especially in regards to Math. Thanks

Well, it is that time for me. I have now written a draft of my thesis, which is in mathematics. It is at the moment 118 pages long, including all the stuff at the front. I think I have enough and it seems to be well within the average of similar things I have seen. I have two 16 year old boys that I am teaching Biochemistry to. We are using the Principles of Biochemistry by Lehninger fourth edition, since I was able to find 3 copies for us. I was able to read and understand the first 9 chapters, so making their test was easy. However, I was wondering if someone has a test bank for this book that I could BUY so that test making would be much easier and more accurate, since the boys love to try an prove mom wrong. Hello, I'm in my final year of my bachelor's degree in molecular medicine at the moment, and I want to do postgraduate courses. I've been applying for a few PhDs in fields like cancer-research, virology, proteomics, genetics and molecular biology. So far, I've had two interviews. One was at UCL in London, and one was at my current university in the South of England. The interviews didn't go too well, in my opinion. Hi all, I've recently discovered the field of psychopharmacology, and it sounds like exactly what I want to do. What I'm wondering is, to study psychopharmacology, would I become a psychiatrist first and then specialize in psychopharmacology, or is there some other educational route that one would take to do this? Given the system here I am almost sure that there will be legal issues, though. Given the fact that we had to arrange a student some prolonged time for her exam as she provided a proof of learning disability. Seriously, the US university system is bloody weird. It seems that managers have followed a course which told them that it's vital that all employees follow a course. At least, my manager probably did. The effect is that I have now a list of targets for this year: "Follow courses" is one of the targets. We even identified a few topics, which was very helpful if they were common topics of courses, which I think they are not. After that nothing else was said on the topic of courses. I'm currently in college, and i want to go into a career in science, and have been thinking for a long while about doing the zoology course, and was wondering if anyone who has done the course, could at all tell me what the course was like, and if anyone has done animal behavior and welfare, whether they could tell me what that course was like, i believe this is kind of a random question. Ok, let me tell you about myself. I live in NY and go to college in NY. I intend on attending medical school 3 years from now. I am technically a Junior, credit-wise, however this is my second year as a college student. I brought to college 36 credits from College-High School programs ran by two popular universities in the state. In English I took 12 credits in (more than enough to satisfy what was needed), but I averaged I believe a B+ (however, i was awarded with a small scholarship in English in senior year, I was the only one, how ironic b/c I didn't do the best). Hie i am doing my final project, and i will be working on an Automatic glass filling system for champagne.This will involve emptying the champagne into 4-5 glasses and having them ready for delivery to the respective tables. I am trying to find out if anyone has an idea of how i can sense the presence of the champagne glass and be able to have the system to tell if the glasses are empty or not?Any ideas??

What is the ultimate function of education? I'm always wondering what kind of education do we need. I'm a college student, but the courses offered are so many and the study load is so heavy that I almost have no time to develop my own interest. However, recently there emerges heat discussion about the education's aim: whether it is to elevate the students' quality or to obtain better competence in the job market?

I have always been interested in medicine and it is my chosen field of study... but recently, i've been reading a lot on theoretical physics and mathematics and it seems far more meaningful in the larger span of things ( and by this i mean the workings of the universe - i'm not underestimating the work of doctors/surgeons here at all). Hi, If two individuals measured the same 3 objects and recorded the weight each time, and have slight differences in every one of thier weights, would this be a result of rounding or not setting the scale to 0? (I think it's the latter but need confirmation).
