I'm currently a Bio major and I am doing student research in Immunology. Most of what I do is only on the surface in terms of understanding Immunology. Most of what I do that in lab work doesn't usually involve as much Biology knowledge, the Post Doc fellows I work with use their knowledge to aid me. I would like to take an Immunology course, however my school offers it as a high upper level Undergrad/Grad level course mostly taught at the Graduate level. It has been maybe 4 years since I've taken a general Bio course, and I am taking Genetics and Cell over the summer. Is this class possible for someone with my knowledge? I haven't taken Biochemistry yet (I have taken Or…

Hi, I am currently studying my BSc in Chemsitry. I wish to study a master's degree or preferably a PhD immediately or soon after I graduate. I very much want to work in the space industry. I am starting to realize that I might have been better suited to a physics degree (although my mathematics and classical physics abilities are relatively poor). Anyway, when I graduate, what degree do you recommend I study for a career in the space industry? Thanks, Pyroglycerine

  6. Morning all, I was just curious to know if you were in charge of drawing up the science curriculum for schools, what would you put in? Your suggestions may be related to what would get children hooked on science or what would be useful in this ever changing world we live in for example. Thanks for taking the time to get back to me & I look forward to reading your suggestions. Samuel

I'm looking for some online resources and books that teach basic science. Video lectures/tutorials or books would be great, but I'll take anything. It needs to start at the most basic level, aimed at an audience with no scientific knowledge. Preferably not resources aimed at children, but as I said, I'll take anything.

  8. Hello ScienceForum, This is my first post here, so hopefully Im posting this in the right area. Anyway, heres my situation. Currently I'm a third year Double Major in Aerospace Engineering and Comprehensive Mathematics. My goal is to work on theoretical technologies in space travel such as the Alcubierre Drive or Beamed Energy Propulsion. I am pursuing a degree in Aerospace Engineering to reach that goal. My other major in Comprehensive Mathematics is solely for fun. I plan on pursuing a doctorates in both fields. Now here is where my problem starts, as I've been talking more and more to my TA's and Professors and taking trips to local Aerospace Facilities, I feel li…

I have seen countless discussions on the web (maybe even here) in which people stated that the US education system needs reform... ...and it puzzles me up to this day. AS the US education system has the highest number of the best universities in the world and the highest number of Nobel winners (all best scientists want to work in the US), then why should there be any need to change anything?

Finishing up high school it's time for me to make a definite career choice. I have always loved genetics and have been really good at it and so it was an obvious choice that I would want to take up this field, it's only a question of what subfield. I have already decided medicinal genetics, and I've been looking into clinical cytogenetics. The pay seems good, and the job description fits what I want. But I don't know what actually goes on. Is it just pippetting stuff all day?? I mean I know I'll have to do that in the beginning a lot but I don't want that to be my actual career. And is there human interactions, like long term patients and such? I've heard the patient…

  12. I am a student at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and I am studying Environmental Studies and Plant Biology. Right now I am in an independent plant science lab that encourages experiments on the growth of plants. My overall goal with the experiment I am doing now is to test the impacts of Ethanol (E10) on common prairie plants (Common plants to Nebraska). I will be using different dilutions of the Ethanol and simply watering them on to common milkweed. I want to know what the impacts of our daily live driving to and from work, to stores, and for fun can do if there happens to be runoff from the roads into the water source of our plants. That is how I came up …

  13. I'm looking to get into a graduate program for a masters (or a PhD if I can skip the masters). Seeing as how I have made a name for myself on these forums to a certain extent, I'm wondering if anyone is interested in taking me under their wing for graduate study. My main focus in my academic career has been to model the brain computationally. I've written a Python program that learns language and interacts pretty good. I actually just updated the code yesterday and tested it for a couple of hours, it was working beautifully. My other areas of interest include- Politics (Scientocracy) and making a computer program to stand as an alternative to the current democ…

  14. So I was looking through the course catalog for my school. I am taking Earth/Space Science as of now. These are the courses: Biology Chemistry Physics I Physics II Advanced Biology Advanced Chem Human Anatomy and Physiology I don't think I want to do Biology, I feel that I am not going to need it, and the same with Human Anatomy. I would like some people to tell me if I should though, if it offers a good foundation or anything. Also, I am powering through math right now, and might be taking Pre-Cac next year, or possibly AP Calculus if I decide that I don't want to have a summer . Is there a Calculus II, or what higher levels of math are there? Last …

I have seen many users asking for self study material for learning Physics. We as a team have developed an android application. The application is free of cost and provides practice papers as well as learning material for physics. You can download it from the following link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=technologies.com.angular.jeephysics Since the app is currently under development we would greatly appreciate your review and suggestions. What do you enjoy about your job? What does your day typically look like? What was your training like? Is your job very time consuming to your personal life? What made you choose this job? Thank you =)

  19. Perpetual motion machines are devices which keep going on their own that never stop. They have several different kind. I was thinking it might fall under mechanics but is this correct? People have been looking into these alternative means of energy for a lot time. However no one has ever created a perfect machine. So exactly what category of science would this fall under?

For my senior project I have decided to create a simple game to teach a basic understanding of physics, mainly optics and thermodynamics. This will be a game made to be played by students in middle and maybe high school. What would you recommend for me to teach through the game regarding the topic of physics?

Hi there, looking for some expert advice I'm currently studying for a degree in natural science, specialising in biology and environmental science. I hope to go into a conservation/animal related industry or masters, or teaching of biology or something related. I'm struggling as I have one module of free choice and I cannot decide what would be best to do. I can do either 30 credits in earth science or environmental science. although it makes more sense to pick environment, I really enjoy earth science and this particular module is also concerned with life on earth also. Now i'm wondering, do you think an earth science module will look odd in my degree profile co…

I'm possibly going to college for associates degree in applied science or certificate in medical office administration. I've taken two of the required classes for both. would it be better if i did full 63 hours to get associates degree or do the 23 hour course to get a job quick thats better than a grocery store. p.s. getting associates = quitting current job getting certificate = keeping job and going on educational leave

  23. Hello peoples, I would like to start to screw around with physics. To do that, I am going to need Calculus. I have Khan Academy, so what should I learn on it to lead up to that. I am doing game design next quarter for school, and want to program my own physics engine.

  24. Started by LS George,

Right now I'm applying for a masters degree in physics with photonics. It is an area that I find very interesting, and I've seen other options that are in the physics degrees (e.g. applied nuclear physics, advanced quantum physics) that are also interesting and I'd plan on taking when I'm on my degree. I'm also very keen to study General relativity, but I am also very, very aware that you need to be pretty damn good at maths to be able to do general relativity. What I'm wondering is if I'm able to study areas of maths and physics after I've completed my degree so that I will be able to tackle general relativity. Just as a side note, I am applying to British u…
