WARNING!!! YOU MUST READ THIS!!! Klaxon, the internet Chicken Little, raises the alarm for each and every paranoid conspiracy theory, Federal Big-Brother scheme, internet hoax, and latest computer virus. No black helicopter alert is so ludicrous, no urban legend so implausible, that he will not pass it along as accepted fact (in ALL CAPS with multiple exclamation marks). Congratulations, you are recipient 16,747 of today's Urban Myth. CAUTION: Often Klaxon knowingly posts false alarms to foment mischief. So I've been noticing about 2 or 3 of these "peak oil" alarmists posting here quite regularly. Is anyone else as annoyed with them as I am? They seem to be alleg…

Would most of the scientists artist and mathematicians that where born in northern Italy be of germanic or celtic stock? Like might Galileo be of germanic ethnicity? It is said that germanic people had invaded northern Italy in ancient times and that celtic people had been settled there for a period before rome came into existence.

Okay, think about it. Atoms cannot really be spherical, can they? I mean, what, after all, is a curved line, but a series of straight lines. You cannot create a curved line without first creating a square. So atoms either are squares, or made up of squares. I'm going to go with that they are made up of squares. So, what are these squares that create the atom? Take away a square and what happens? I don't know, I've just been thinking about that...

any comments would be appriciated..... A Mega Tsunami is going to start from a landslide in the canary islands....rip across the atlantic....and level the first 30 miles of the entire eastern seaboard of the United States.....this wave is going to cause the earth to become unbalanced and the shere weight and force of this wave (600 trillion joules of kenetic energy) will force the plates of the earth to shift suddenly and the Super Volcano that is YellowStone will errupt....sending 2500 cubic kilometers of ash and gasses into the stratusphere. which will cause a volcanic winter and it will only spare about 2% of life on this planet.......global temps will drop between 5-…

Im 14 and me and my friend are obbsesed with the force from star wars and were discussing the possibilites of this. We finally thought of using electromagnets to turn the magnets (possibly in a glove) to attract repel and to turn off completly. Is it possible to do do sumthing like say pick up a fork a meter away with an electromagnet this small or do something crazy like flip a car:-p and if this isnt possible can someone think of something else to help us with this problem. Also do gloves that can get you to climb up vertical walls exist?

if life hadn't arose? I was thinking about it earlier, does anyone have any ideas? A warmer, wetter version of Mars with a really poisonous ocean? Any suggestions for further reading would be welcomed.

We were having a discussion last night as to the determination of when and where the shuttle lands. Is it based on windows, and if the window is missed, the shuttle would skip on the atmosphere?

We see the sun's light after approx. 8 mins ( we will take it 8 mins and neglect that 32 secs.). That means that we see the sun as what it was 8 mins before. But earth rotates along its axis. It rotates 2 degrees in 8 mins. Therefore what we see from the earth is not the actuall position of the sun. what we see the sunfrom earth should be its position 2 degrees west. Ain't I right or am I just Confused??????

I've been reading this book, and i really like it, but im wondering what parts are true and which are fiction. I don't care even a little bit about the religious conspiracy aspects, but various things like the church waging a smear campaign against the pentacle are hard to tell between fact and fiction. I'm guessing brown didnt falsify EVERYTHING but i also doubt he never took some artistic license. so if someone could either tell me a few truths from it, or point me to a site with no agenda (religios or non-religious) id really appreciate it.

Dear Sir, I wonder if this method is viable. If a space ship beams enough electrons to a near by body, the positive charged space ship will be accelerating to the negative changed body. Or maybe we can etectrify the space around a space ship to propulsion in some way. Thank you for help! Sincerely, Joe

If you are like most of the world, you believe that oil and gas are in neat little caves buried deep in the earth, just like the drawing in your 6th grade science textbook. Being rather sensible, you guess that oil companies drill and sink a pipe into the cave to suck out the black gold. It’s quite probable in your mind that when each well “comes in”, it spews oil all across the countryside; like James Dean in ‘Giant” or Jed Clampett on The Beverly Hillbillies. The average oil or gas well is drilled so deep that if we did not use thick drilling fluid to hold back the earth’s pressure, it would easily collapse and crush our drilling pipe. The typical well today has bet…

Let me introduce myself, I'm Brian Hornung, President of Vintage Host [the company that hosts these forums]. I am looking for a talented PHP/MySQL/etc. (more languages definitely a plus) developer with an entrepreneurial spirit and a great attitude (and personality) -- preferably someone currently in college or high school -- for an initial medium sized project (paid, somewhat of a freelance job), but several profitable projects thereafter. I am looking for a long term, profitable relationship with this developer. The initial project includes, but is not limited to the following (Due to the requirement for confidentiality in all of my projects, I am not able to relea…

I have just completed my website, and it will be launched on December 1st, 2005. It is sort of like a experiments community where people can share ideas about scientific experiments. Please give me some suggestions as to what sort of thing I should have on it, what types of topics, etc. The site is during its testing stage. I would like to create a scientific site that is fun, and can benefit everyone. And of course it would just be a waste of time to recreate another scienceforums.net. So guys, please give me some creative ideas.

A friend of mine wants to build or buy a seismograph and I said I would help him. He wants to detect earth tremors and display them on a computer in real time. So, some questions. 1. Is there an internet site that you could use someone elses sensor to produce charts on your computer? Similar to how you can hook yourself up to webcams all over the US. 2. Where can we get some inexpensive sensors. 3. Is there a link to a build your own sensor that is reliable? I have some links, but I would like some more input.... Thanks Bettina
