Part 1: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8492625684649921614# Part 2: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1663091361786740235# Dangerous Knowledge is a documentary about the lives of four mathematicians/scientists: Georg Cantor, Ludwig Boltzmann, Kurt Gödel, and Alan Turing. The central theme is one of the discovery of the undiscoverable, and being driven mad by it. For example, Cantor was almost driven mad by his continuum hypothesis. Later Gödel attempted to prove the continuum hypothesis himself, and almost went mad trying to before managing to prove it unprovable. All in all it's a very good program and I highly suggest you watch it.

I was just wondering how some of you got interested in the sciences. To start out with, when I was about six years old my mom and I made little water molecules useing toothpicks and marshmallows. I thought that was so fun, I started to read my dads chemistry books.

I thought it was a pretty good movie. I don't really buy the 'Sumerian' voices, though. It smacks too much of white noise EVP, imo. And if these aliens were here thousands of years ago, why were they in 'apollo-like' rockets rather than the types of ships that can pull children through a ceiling without breaking anything?

Amiloride Hydrochloride is an antikaliuretic-diuretic agent, it is a pyrazine-carbonyl-guanidine that is unrelated chemically to other known antikaliuretic or diuretic agents. Amiloride HCl is indicated as adjunctive treatment with thiazide diuretics or other kaliureticdiuretic agents in congestive heart failure or hypertension to: help restore normal serum potassium levels in patients who develop hypokalemia on the kaliuretic diuretic;prevent development of hypokalemia in patients who would be exposed to particular risk if hypokalemia were to develop, e.g., digitalized patients or patients with significant cardiac arrhythmias. Amiloride HCl is not an aldosterone …

The "Man arrested for being naked in his own house" thread prompted the subject. While looking up instances/tolerances of public nudity in Europe, I found something interesting online (warning: two naked people). Had to google translate the page yet it didn't get entirely translated, but it seems to be talking about a movie poster with genitilia fully in view (scroll to bottom of webpage), and how possibly it got torn down by an offended group. From previous hearsay, I would've imagined Germany's more accustomed than the U.S. to occasional billboards or advertisements with nudity. Maybe the puritans are gaining numbers there? Or just maybe, Germany wasn't ever r…

How or why is Primal Therapy not a legitimate topic for discussion in this forum. And why is it iNow has the ability to kill any discussion I start about this important topic. This is a topic that only promotes the common good, the health and well being of mankind. Why of all topics does this one generate such hostility ? I see postings explaining to proven dangerous people how to create dangerous compounds, A-bombs, shit like that. And this topic I post about to promote the well being of mankind gets stomped out of existence because iNow does not agree with it. What the ,,,, kind of forum is this ? ...Dr.Syntax

I need to note that this argument for the validity of Primal Therapy is going to be my words and wording, not those of Dr. Arthur Janov himself. I may very well choose to quote him from time to time and will indicate when I am doing so in the customary way. I do not have Dr.Janov here with me to argue the case for himself ,here in this forum. Dr.Janov does an excellent job of doing just that in the many books he has written on this extremely important subject. A true CURE for neurosis was discovered and developed by Dr.Janov beginning back in the 1960s and his research and development of this revolutionary approach to the treatment and prevention of neurosis is an ongoing …

Alright then SFN. My old phone (a samsung D500) has decided that the battery is low even when on external power and the battery removed. swapping battery doesn't help either. as the only way to stop the alarm is to mutilate the speaker(and make it useless as a phone) i'm going to be getting another. so as my knowledge of mobile phones would be hard stretched to fill a post-it note i'm going to be asking you guys for recommendations. the requirements are:- -can make phone calls -can send texts -has bluetooth -has good battery life(current phone went a week and a half without recharge looking for similar or better) -cheap(-ish parents are buying so i can…

Young people nowdays seem to take it for granted that Governmental and private entities of ANY sort nave some RIGHT to gather as much information as they can aquire about you for any purpose they may wish to. If you have any doubt about that read the different EULAs you have electronically agreed to. A good example would be the" Adobe EULA ". No one ever reads them, but they are legalling binding contracts that inform you that they can gather any information about you for any reason whatsoever. Not only they can pass this information on to anyone for any reason. Also that you shall no recourse should any harm come to you by their SHARING this information with affiliates a…

What do you guys think about Wolfram Alpha? Personally I think it's an interesting idea - ambitious but that's probably why I find it so interesting. It has the potential to do a lot of things IF the goals set can be filled.

I thought I'd share some odd paper titles I've stumbled upon recently. (Of course, they're only funny if you're a big science geek.) "One name to rule them all, one name to find them: Lord of the Rings and 'seated immobility thromboembolism (SIT) syndrome'." - NZ Med J. "Kinky binding and SECsy insertions." -Mol. Cell. "A cunning stunt*: an alternative mechanism of eukaryotic translation initiation." - Science. Anyone got any more? *This one could just be my dirty imagination...

http://www.technologyreview.com/blog/arxiv/24234/ Check out this article about an "artificial black hole." Except it isn't a black hole, it's a material that is almost perfectly black within a certain spectrum of microwaves. But wait! It "bends space!" But wait! No, it doesn't, just "as far as light is concerned," whatever that means. How sensational! And it's in Technology Review, which is published by MIT.

Well, it's snowing here in the Czech Republic. In friggin' October, it's snowing. Not two days ago I was still running around in T-Shirts, and not 10 years ago there wouldn't be any snow for at least another month and a half. Ironic, our president still denies global warming...I hope he's looking out of the window right now. What's it like at your place?
