Speculations
Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.
The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:
- Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
- Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
- Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.
The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

i read somewhere about dark energy and acceleration in the universe... i may have a better solution. now i don't know much of anything in physics but i am assuming that time can flow at different 'rates' else where in the universe. with that said, instead of actual acceleration; i propose a perseaved acceleration due to time differences. for example: locally we see a ball travelling a constant 3 m/s, at a different place there is another ball travelling 3 m/s. here, in 3 seconds we have seen the ball go 9 meters. now the other ball also travels 9 meters in 3 sec but the other time could be described as a function of our time x = local time and y = other time as func…

If one looks at cells, once the structures of cells are positioned, new proteins seem to know where to go. The cell is not helter-skelter, but rather distinct cellular proteins and the distinct configuration which they define are positioned within the cell. Ion pumps always find the cell membrane. The ribosomes don't usually become active within the nuclear membrane but usually leave the nuclear membrane and diffuse to their asigned postions within the cytoplasm to become active, etc. There is no little traffic cop directing intercellular traffic yet the materials know where to go. Random motion is out of the question. The reason they diffuse to distinct positions is…

creationism, evolution, and religions that are 'of intrest' to the pupils should be taught.. those who say God should be left out of the science room as evolution does not deny the existence of God, I disagree with.. its not about denying his existence.. Evolution to many denies the existence of God 'as they know him' (i.e. through scriptures). I'll give an example.. When I studied science, our head of science at school aggressively tried to convince us that man and ape shared the same ancestor.. Now that rang alarm bells in the heads of the Muslims and Christians in the class,.. as it should.. We've been bought up to believe that God made Man from clay.. the…

This Buddhism site suggests that there is evidence to support reincarnation…. http://www.buddhanet.net/e-learning/qanda05.htm here are some highlights: Question: How does the mind go from one body to another? Answer: Think of it being like radio waves. The radio waves, which are not made up of words and music but energy at different frequencies, are transmitted, travel through space, are attracted to and picked up by the receiver from where they are broadcast as words and music. It is the same with the mind. At death, mental energy travels through space, is attracted to and picked up by the fertilized egg. As the embryo grows, it centers itself in th…

oh yeah, it does. To any relativists, I would like to discuss with you the relativistic notions. But I do not care for einstein's theory of relativity that has absolutely no practical application to my life or yours. Lets keep it on the plane of real life relevance. Let's get the ball rolling...

Well, this seems like a good place to start... I am an author/scientist who has written a book about the Creation/Evolution/ID debate. My concept addresses the following statement: A significant portion of the population is influential enough to cause our legislature to pass laws that restrict the freedom and funding for scientific research. One significant factor is the misconceptions that these people buy into concerning science. I believe the source of the misconceptions lies in the translation of scientific journals by unqualified members of the media. These unqualified media writers then add their sensationalistic twists and you have a controversy. My so…

http://www.holoscience.com/news.php?article=0auycyew 27 October 2004 The True State of the Universe "... almost the entire body of astronomers can go wrong in a way that, in later years, seems absurd. To hear scientists talk today, you would think the first moment in human history in which nonsensical views are not widely held is now." - Fred Hoyle, Home is Where the Wind Blows. Those who profess to understand it do not know the true state of the universe. In recent months two of the most popular science magazines have produced special supplements. Scientific American published "The Secret Lives of Stars." New Scientist published State of the…

Me and my dad came up with this interesting statement. Light is time polar. in other words time has two poles, positive time and negative time..... remember how light pushes a little on objects? light also pulls, but it looks diffenently if you think backwards(literally) would anyone please tell me what could be improved on this?

I have been receiving lots of strange pictures that were taken at Gettysburg. Most of them look like the orb pictures I posted in another thread. However, somebody sent me a picture that looks like nothing I have ever seen before. He said that he was in the Gettysburg cemetery, and it was very dark. He also said that his camera lens was clean. Does anyone have any idea what this picture could be?

If you look at anything macroscopic there is alot of random details. Like the leaves on a road, or the cracks in a wall etc. Why don't atoms have any random details? They are perfectly round with "points" (electrons) that circulate them. OK, they are not "perfect" but governed by quantum mechanical equations etc. But they seem so "unnatural" as everything macroscopic has rnadom details and atoms are perfect mathematical equations. True that even air and oceans don't have any random details, but the details are in the random measurements of pressure and temperature. Maybe we can't perceive the atom's random details. Maybe something is wrong with our descriptions... If …

Hi! I noticed an interesting thread on how to debate with a creationist. So I thought it would be fair to make one on how to debate with an evolutionist. Fair's fair, right? Here are some simple ways to debate with an evolutionist: 1) Some evo-supporters may get nervous about this topic, because they may think about some religion they don't want to join. Re-assuring the person that ID doesn't talk about any specific religion may help. 2) You may want to start by debating logically with the person. You may want to bring up the universes vast complexities, and that logically, it's an imposibility. Often, an evolutionist may say that logic is not fa…

PLANET-DISSOLVING DUST CLOUD IS HEADED TOWARD EARTH! http://tv.yahoo.com/news/wwn/20050912/112653720001.html "CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Scared-stiff astronomers have detected a mysterious mass they've dubbed a "chaos cloud" that dissolves everything in its path, including comets, asteroids, planets and entire stars -- and it's headed directly toward Earth! Discovered April 6 by NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory, the swirling, 10 million-mile- wide cosmic dust cloud has been likened to an "acid nebula" and is hurtling toward us at close to the speed of light -- making its estimated time of arrival 9:15 a.m. EDT on June 1, 2014. " "A super-massive black hole lies abo…

I guess this falls under the category of philosophy so I'm posting it here (sorry to the mods if this is inappropriate). I had a thought the other day: During our dreams, we can perceive ourselves in situations that are bizzare and fantastic yet think nothing of it. I once had a dream that there was a camel in my living room and I shrugged my shoulders about it as though that was normal. The brain must release some kind of chemical when we're sleeping that subdues the parts of our brains associated with shock and surprise so that they are inactive. If this is so, it means that our brains are capable of being in a state in which they can witness amazing and extraor…

The only thing that will be left to study in the future is philosophy. It is science that will end. Once all our practical scientific-technical problems have been solved, and we can manipulate all matter and ourselves infinitely, then only philosophy-metaphysics-art will be left, and that study will last forever. This study will lead to inventing any arbitrary science and art form as knowledge. Any sequence of signs and pictures can become an invented irrational mathematics-physics. Trying to understand metaphysical problems in philosophy always ends up questioning more fundamental assumptions as it proceeds. Why "understand" more or less ? Why use any form of logic …

I challenge any creationist(or anybody else for that matter) to attempt to find a single peice of logical and/or empirical evidence that suggests that creationism is true. I DO NOT WANT attacks on belief(this is not about belief but science), references to the bible(it can be made to agree with anything) or statements such as "i think evolution is a bunch of crap so creationism must be true"(if something is not A it does not necessarily mean that B is true). If this erupts into a flame war or personal attacks of any kind are made then i will ask for this thread to be closed by the moderators.

As we all know, life is based on cooperating events. At its very basic level living organisms consist of cooperating molecules, higher life forms consists of cooperating cells, ecosystems consist of a complex cooperating web of higher life forms, etc.. This leads to the Gaia theory where the planet Earth itself, and all its collective life can be considered a living organism. Life on Earth at all levels has become great a adapting to changing events on our planet, and actually plays a vital role in keeping the planet habitable. The mechanisms life uses to protect itself from threats and changing events is evolution (developing defense mechanisms and new tactics to ex…

Okay, well I am sure everyone here has heard of John Titor before. Well he stated that in 2003-2006 there were going to be massive man and nature disasters. Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Rita, War in Iraq, Volcanoes, Ect. They are all happening in the time period he gave us, could this help back up his accounts? What do you think?

I hope I am placing this in the right forum... I always try to imagine worlds where life springs up, and try to imagine how it would have evolved. I wanted to hear what others came up with as well. I am not sure if this has been published anywhere, but im gonna go ahead and put forward this idea I came up with to start it off.. Imagine a world where the micro-organisms used only symbiotic competition to evolve , instead of the earthly mix of symbiosis, parasitic, and outright murderous forms of competition (I call this the "cain and abel" gene). These life forms all work together. You may use your imagination to invision what they would look like, but I pr…
