Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

If one were to make a stable Einstein-Rosen Bridge travel part way through, and then pinch it off behind, what would happen? Would spacetime snap back and take the object with it? Would spacetime just stay extended like that? Excuse the craptastic artwork. The red dot represents the object and the figures go from left to right and top to bottom(just like reading English).

Because we cannot prove the exsistent of Ether by physical experimentation, and time is not a physical essence of the universe, although both must have an exsitance in some fashion (I believe). So what if Time was completely constant regardless of different time frames, and was used as a an Ether or medium for light to travel through. The question I am asking is what if Time was the constant Ether?

Other than arguable conjecture, is there a reason why such a phenomena might not be happening at this moment? Or has science enlightend us to the point where We know such a thing is impossible? Could our universe not be moving freely out into the "unreal-estate" of a Continuum as this statement is being made?

Here is a foolish idea: What if the redshift of distant galaxy is not caused by the expansion of space, but by the contraction of matter ? Wouldn't it be equivalent ? Let me explain a little how the contraction of matter can give the redshift. At the time a galaxy 1 billion light year away, atom where a lot bigger and where emiting light with a lot bigger wave length. While it was traveling toward us our local group was contracting and now the same kinds of atoms are emitting at a much shorter wave length. I think that you can get it. I know I have nothing to support that hypothesis, but I am interested to know if it can explain all observations we have on the dista…

Is there, or can there ever be any proof of monopoles? Since we can explain the effects of what we consider gravity to be through very sophisticated formulation; is it possible that monopoles might fit into that same catagory?

I almost hate to poke this hornets nest again... almost... but without stings how do you know pleasure? I haven't really looked into Foo Fighters in recent years, believing like most there was no way to really investigate something too ethereal to have any physical effects. I didn't know there were real interactions between WW2 aircraft and Foo Fighters that resulted in actual physical effects but to anyone who is interested in the enigma of what UFOs were or are and who or what really dictates what we believe here we go (looking at the UFO phenomenon is like looking in a mirror, everyone sees something inside themselves in some way) So here goes... http://en.wikipedi…

    Special Relativity. Assume z=0. Two frames are in relative motion and when their origins are co-located, a light pulse is emitted from their origins. Stationary frame, observer O located is at (vr/c, r/γ, 0). Moving frame, observer O'1 located is at (0, r/γ, 0) and observer O'2 located is at ( r/γ, 0, 0). When light travels a distance r in O, observers O and O'1 are co-located. Proof 1) Set x = vr/c and t = r/c in the stationary frame since this is the O observer. LT calculates x'=0 and t'= r/(γc). Hence, ct' = r/γ = √( x'² + y² + z²) = √( 0² + y² + 0²) = y. So, the coordinate in the O' frame is (0, r/γ, 0). 2) Set x' = 0 and t' = r/(γc) in the …

Me and my friend recently came up with an idea of somehow creating tiny animals. For example, an elephant that could fit in the palm of your hand. We feel like this would be a really popular craze and make us a lot of money. I know that I would buy several of them for sure. We figure there has to be a way to do this possibly through cloning. With science as advanced as it is today I find it hard to believe this hasn't been done already. This thread is not a joke and I'm very interested in what your opinions are on the subject.

Oil well blowouts are caused by pressure control systems failing. Is it possible that the pressure control system failed due to Earth’s internal pressure increasing? Could Earth’s inner core temperatures be increasing thus causing the surrounding layer’s temperature to increase as well? As a result could the outer layers of the Earth’s inner core push oil in oil wells out? This could all be explained by seismo- electromagnetics, where solar flares are causing our Earth’s inner core temperatures to increase dramatically. If this is true, then we should see more oil well blowouts as solar activity increases. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deepwater_Horizon_oil_spill

“There is presently no theory (general relativity included) that is able to predict the value of G” .....In particular then, the force that two symmetric spheres exert on each other is the same as if each sphere were replaced by its equivalent particle. Extracted from ‘Classical Mechanics’ by R Douglas Gregory. Cambridge University Press, Previously swansont had objected to the use of the classical electron radius, this caused a change to the quantum mechanical Compton radius where the similarity between the electron radius and the gravitational constant started a chain of thoughts that eventually lead to the following: Table 1 uses the equation: Mass mul…

  16. The speed of light is determined by the propagation impedence of the medium it traverses. Now we just have to know the composition and functionality of the medium that facilitates the propagation of EM energy. There really is a medium. I think I know what is is. It's the ether. And I think I know it's composition and functionality. And as defined it is consistent with all experiments testing the phenomena of special relativity, general relativity, and relativistic quantum mechanics.

This will mash your head up, this may be a petty imagination of a 13 year old boy. But, there was no 'creation' the universe has always been. As some know time is a dimension, maybe 'time' wasn't made then. Some kind of life must follow the same path, Never was created was always there. A life-form whoms knowledge is everlasting. Look at this, another colour not just out colours we see a completely different colour, now try to make a blank screen of that colour of what it looks like.. IMPOSSIBLE, because mind hasn't seen this. The light hasn't been basically 'saved'. Or maybe it is our mind not discovering these new things. But these life-forms are able to see things. Oka…

Using the oft-cited "rubber sheet analogy", would the spacetime fabric of the "flexible future", full of unfixed possibilities, possibly be sort of "supple", in comparison to the "old & leathery" spacetime, of the fixed & "carved in stone" past ???
