Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

  1. I'm just saying.

I'm curious as to where my own beliefs and expectations are relative to my "peers". This poll is aimed mainly at fellow speculators for which I assume the following are true: - The topic you're speculating on is not related to your main area of work/study (unless working independently full-time on your theories). - You're more interested in developing a new idea on a topic than understanding all existing knowledge on the topic. Thanks for your input!

  3. Proposal; Human have two cognitive modes. From when you are born until you develop emotions you are in a logical cognitive mode. As you develop the ability to manipulate symbols you are in an "in between" mode with logic and symbolic settling which is in control. "normal" is when symbolic mode developes early in childhood. As you age and "learn" symbols you gain enough skill to settle fully into the symbolic mode. These are evolutionary logical modes. The homo sapien evolutionary step was to add this "backwards error sorting" to their memories. This prioritizes some memories over others. With an ability to prioritize memory (WATSON like) we gained the ab…

It makes sense to me but *is* a logic model. experimental data that already exists and that can confirm or deny would be nice. . . Cool, I just got my theory kicked off of physics forum for being speculation. Glad you guys have a place for the inquisitive mind . . .

Preamble: This piece comes with a tenured understanding and perspective that not every PHD has. One would have to understand the maturing phase of relativistic thinking. Only someone who is old enough to understand for example where both the eastern school of thought arrives, and western schools of thought collides, and how they can be woven together and made to work. Someone like that would be my intended readers. One of the things that I like to get people to understand about the reality is that you have a certain level of control within that reality. I will try to go ahead and explain how certain leaps of understanding are made to get you to these basic laws.…

I am not a scientist, but I have a theory about a couple of different things when it comes to the origin of our universe. My ideas seems to be fairly original, yet simple. I believe that the Sun gave birth to all of the planets, one by one. That the sun spits out a large ball of plasma every 80 billion years or so resulting in a new planet. Each planet is an offspring of the sun on an outward journey away from it. A ball of molten plasma exploding out into space, spinning and slowly cooling until the outer crust forms. Basically the planets are a timeline of what happens to a ball of plasma shot out of the sun. Ball of plasma-cools-crusts over, spins from its source,…

! Moderator Note Split from http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/54440-how-to-create-energy/ A very interesting topic. According to physical science, energy must be eternal, it must have always existed and will always exist. The basic form of energy is a photon, an electro-magnetic radiation travelling at the speed of light; it is a quantum particle with a quantity of energy that is a Plank constant. All physical matter and different forms of energies are constituted by quantum particles. The fact that energy in its basic form, is eternal is also show by Einstein relativity theory which holds for the principle of "time dilation" which holds that for any object trav…

  8. Hi: What would happen to my body if it were subjected to genetically-engineering to focus on cellular maintenance as opposed to cellular reproduction/growth? In this theoretical situation, none of the cells of my body die unless exposed to physical injury from external sources -- such as cuts, burns, toxins. However, none of these cells reproduce or grow either. Also, in this possible-but-unlikely scenario, no part of my body experiences any inflammatory response to any circumstance. From the molecular to the cellular to the systemic level there is never any inflammation to any extent no matter how irritated any cell/tissue is. To make matters more interes…

Say you were to attempt to travel between multiple universes. Perhaps by traveling back in, and subsequently altering time, thereby causing you to exist in a universe parallel to your origin (as is stated in one theory). Now, it is generally accepted as a law that matter cannot be created or destroyed. Therefore, the total amount of matter in the universe must be a constant. But if you were to travel between multiverses, you would be reducing the amount of matter in your origin universe and increasing it in your destination universe. My question is, how would this be possible? Does the law of conservation consider all possibly existing universes, therefore negating any …

One "BIG BANG" or a Cyclical Universe At a point in time some thirteen to fourteen billion years ago, our universe supposedly became such, and continues speeding along at a seemingly vectorial constant. Questions of contention are; Into what is it flying? Is it a closed or open system? Will entropy be the end of it? If so, why and how will that end happen? Can it be said without equivocation that a GENESIS did not occur at that precise moment those aeons ago, as merely the half cycle of a continuously pulsating "universe"? In a word, is our world "eternal", or just passing through? Since there is no possible way of proving or disproving such conjecture, I would l…

I recently have had an experience, I am not siding with any of the possibilitys until proof is at the table. Last night i had an experience where i woke and could not move at all, also a very loud sound was in my ears. Following that my eyes would not open and kept on convulsing which was very scary indeed. And then i had a sensation that i was floating over my night stand face down. About that time i was able to break the sensation and start moving i was wet. Just on my head, My hair was soaked i dont know if it was. My wife awoke to scramble and it scared her more than me. I was concious the entire time of this experience, so i do not believe it to be a dream due to …

I started to post this in Molecular Biology, but as I started to think about it, I thought that it would probably be better to post here because of the speculation factor involved. I have no real scientific background other than the courses I took in school, and I was not an "A" student. But I was not a class dunce either. I love a good puzzel, and so I did well enough to pass my classes, and over the years I developed enough of a better understanding of the different diciplines, that when greater minds than mine start takling about certain things in their specific sciences, I can at least follow along and get their point. So here goes. My mother just passed away this…

Could the planets be a timeline? Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars all are comprised of similar elements and cores. Tiny, hot Mercury, little ball of iron, slowly turning to ash or dirt on Venus, spewing out its fire, condensing and expanding like Earth, until it burns out and dies like Mars Then an asteroid belt. Remnants of an planet breaking apart, perhaps Mars will break apart as it dies, or blow up? Then the asteroid belt begins rolling together and forming a gas giant as elements collide, and eventually rotate to look like Jupiter, as gases fade, rings remain like on Saturn, shrinking, freezing as they reach the cold confines of space. Shrinking, freez…

A light is so eternal and so spiral and so growing, so a light in Andromeda differs from a light from milkyway, but dark light itself cannot grow cause it only rided by the ridee (quark). The evolution of dark light and dark matter itself cannot reach by mind, so I try to empiris it: Dark Energy equals Dark Matter mulitply by Dark Matter (2) and multiply again by Dark Matter (2). The evolution of milkyway itself cannot be seen but can be proofed by a form of a new galaxy from a galaxy, the previous life of galaxy before had a genetic which is evolute, right after supernova a galaxies form a new galaxy which is can be more higher evolution or lower evolution or …

Most people cite Hitler as using larger doses in concentration camps to keep people from revolting. Is there any truth to this?

I had some ideas bouncing around in my head, when I suddenly realized this could only happen if the ideas were particles. These new particles are called "ideatons" and all consciousness is made up of them. Yes, I know the theory sounds obvious, but science requires incontrovertible proof and also numbers, so I went and discovered the empirical evidence of ideatons! What I did is: I weighed my head when it was empty, and then weighed it again when I was thinking some particularly "heavy" thoughts. I had to compensate for all the other "stuff" in my head (skull, hair, small amounts of air, etc), and I had to estimate the number of ideatons that made up the thoughts I w…

I am developing an idea that all of reality is a dream, although it sounds crazy remember when you sleep you rarely doubt it as not real. I believe that this world is a sub-conscious created world. There is an infinite number of dream levels in my opinions and that you can only remember one level below the level you are currently in and each level you rise, events appear less likely in other words the world becomes more rational and more feasible. So the above dream level would be even more rational than this world and events are less likely. So the conclusion is that the more & more you rise up the dream level ladder of reality and eventually you reach a point we…

I don't see how you could get something from nothing, but I've been thinking. Perhaps energies wich do not occupy time could have existed before time. Time stands still at the speed of light. Light is an ellectromagnetic wave if I remember right. So it's perfectly acceptable to think that electro magnetic "entities" exist outside of and before our universe (time). Things that exist outside of time probably wouldn't have to obey the rules of time unless moving through a "pool" of time at wich point they have to travel on a wave of time. That moves at the speed of light. I believe that a photon (While swimming through our universe), is just an electromagnetic desturbance…

  22. Yes, I know that electrostatic attraction drops off at a greater rate with distance from the nucleus than gravity. However, I'm still wondering if residual electrostatic attraction could explain gravity. My speculative reasoning is this: as a body of matter grows, the number of protons in the body increases faster than the number of electrons. This is because molecular bonding causes many electrons to be shared. Thus, I think it could be said that any body of matter will have some surplus of proton charge relative to electron charge. Since the charges balance out via atomic and molecular configurations that neutralize relative ionization through bonding/motion, ther…

I'm just curious how many others have the same opinion of our species' future as I do; what do you think the chances are that the human race will still be around come the 3rd millennium? I personally think there's virtually zero chance of that given how we're destroying our planet, eradicating the diseases that keep our population in check, sweeping all new energy technologies that could replace oil/gas under the rug, wasting tens of trillions of dollars on designing new weapons, and other similar acts. In my opinion, our species has a very bleak future, indeed.
