Hello. Clicking your own avatar shows the option of listing "your attachments". Can the option of showing your posts be added there, if deserved or convenient to members ? Thank you.

Although many do not follow forum guidelines about evidential support I have sometimes see the following statement "Statistically Significant". This claim has also accompanied some of the outlandish AI generated stuff more recently. I would draw members attention to the 2011 experiment by Simmons et al in which they statistically demonstrated that audiences who listened to a Beatles song literally became younger after the event. Obviously impossible, but that's statistics for you if mishandled. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/51725721_False-Positive_Psychology I wonder if we shouln't have a sticky outlining the dangers of false positives in statistics ?

  4. Swansont the moderator....If am not wrong history will judge you harshly..that is,if you care... knowledge should be shared however uncomfortable it .....am referring to your closure of the thread.. Parameters of a theory of everything....such theory can't be created over night or in a span of a year and some few months... and a few thread page posts. Quantum mechanics started a century ago...my thread;what's a mere year and a few months?. I while tell you something in Swahili...among the native language that I come from....I won't translate for you; ..."Akufukuzae akuambii toka!".. Your issue is more than knowledge...and don't bring issues of freedom of speech here since…

  5. Started by exchemist,

I'm curious to understand why it is that some members seem to have this section on their profile disabled? I have observed what seems to be a loose correlation between those that have this disabled and those that turn out to be, shall we say, less than reliable participants: sockpuppets of previously banned members, people with trollish tendencies, cranks, spammers and so forth. Why is this feature optional and what reasons might there be for a member to want to have it disabled?

  6. I’ve gotten a barrage of recent downvotes a bit out of the blue recently, about 4-5, I have had significant luck improving my reputation overall. Is there a way to tell who’s downvoting you as to ask them why? Some of my statements such as “Thank you my friend!” Have been downvoted and I am curious to why someone would do that

  7. Interesting that AI trained on Newton’s laws couldn’t deduce the gravitation law when given orbit data Why “vibe physics” is the ultimate example of AI slop “But did the model take that leap, and discover Newton’s laws? Did it find the underlying foundational model? Or, perhaps even better, did it find a superior model to Newton’s? The answer, quite definitively, was no.” https://bigthink.com/starts-with-a-bang/vibe-physics-ai-slop/ Article points out how the chatbot aspect of LLMs are a problem. They aren’t going to tell you you’re wrong We’ve run across folks who insist an idea is theirs but an AI helped, but I think this is still a problem - any AI taints the idea.

The Science News section got flooded with Advertisements on 25 July. No action was taken. Probably no staff member was active at time. Different accounts with random names posted. This spamming is still ongoing when i am posting this. A serious measure must be taken to ensure this never happen again. We need staff which is active near 09:30 AM UTC (International Time).

When a member qualifies to be referred to as residential expert in the forum there should be some element of updates from him/ her...or atleast the moderators to update us about the expert absentia. Specifically am asking about Modred he has been absent for long... anyone with updates?

  11. Hello everyone, I was reading different posts.I saw many which were fully AI generated or just a imagination. They had no formal paper, mathematics or anything scientific, but they had very high level science terms and words, which points toward using AI.The common thing they say or have in Topic name is Bear with me.Is this some kind of trend or LLM pattern?

Hi all, It is always good to get feedback from members good and bad so other members and the mods can have a look. Overall very positive so far. Some members obviously have good knowledge so this means I will learn something. Two weeks in, good stuff. Thanks

  14. I've seen the tickboxing or crossing in coloured squares in one or two other threads now. Can anyone tell me if this is a result of AI output or something available in the new SF format or what please ?

  15. I find the auto update jumping around, adding and subtracting items willy nilly. Further if I see a new post actually whilst in a thread and go back to all activity in can be several minutes before it is added to all activity - the record is over 15mins.

  16. Hi All, I am Joey. I am new to the forum. I registered several days ago and posted a few thoughts, but other than that I am a virgin here. Can someone tell me if there is a place where people can introduce themselves? I saw in the Ts & Cs that there is restrictions on the use of AI. First of all I agree that there is restrictions. My question for you is if you agree with my approach. The way I read your rules, I think it is ok, but I would like someone to confirm this. I use AI frequently. However, I use it as a tool that guides me in the right directions. I will always use my own words and never copy any text. I am proud of who I am, both the good and the bad, so …

  19. Started by swansont,

Press the quote button at the bottom of the post, which will quote everything. Delete extraneous material, please or Highlight the text you want to quote, and click on quote or Copy/paste, hit the + inside the black circle in the top ribbon, and click on “wrap in quote” Hit return/enter to move the cursor out of the quote box. Please avoid responding inside the quote box To break up the quoted material, to respond to a specific section, put the cursor in the text box and hit return/enter a few times, and it will split the quote box in two, with a place for you to respond in between them.

  20. You are rude and disrespectful. You sometimes sound adult ish but act like a child. You spam this forum like a teenage boy trying to get laid. And all you do is annoy people judging by the minus rep you are getting. I'm surprised you're not banned yet tbh. My apologies to the mods, admin, scientists and mathameticians , I've tried not saying anything negative about this person but man... (and sorry for going slightly off topic. I won't say anymore.) Also, he or she makes me not want to post here whilst they are still able to, I can only imagine the stupid answers they might reply with. I'm sure this person must be close to being banned, I ask that you do and soon pleas…

  21. Started by studiot,

I just noticed what to me is a new forum function, although it may be just that I never noticed it before. I have two screenshots of the summary function showing what I was offered at the top of a thread and what happened when I accepted the offer of a thread summary. Can someone explain how 'the most posts are selected' please ? I am not complaining about this function, just trying to understand it.

  23. Started by studiot,

Immediately after the site migration I'm pretty sure I found some inverted commas (as with other forums using this platform/format) which gave me a quote box to insert into. But I can't find it anymore so as noted in the screenshot I have had to create my own . As can be seen there are no inverted commas in the input editor toolbar at the top. Can we have it back please ?

  24. Started by studiot,

In the old site we used to be able to ckick on an attachment, photo etc to get to a larger version (if there was one). We seem to have lost this facility here. Is it or can it be still available please ?

  25. Started by swansont,

I know the T dropdown gives us options to increase or decrease, but if I copy-paste something in a big font, like a headline, clicking “100% (default)” does nothing. Somehow, that’s the new default size. Young tourists deported from US after not planning their trip well enough I can only drop that to 80% size Young tourists deported from US after not planning their trip well enoughIf I copy-paste again, it still knows that’s 80%. The only way to get it normal is to paste it where I’ve already typed, so it uses the existing setting Young tourists deported from US after not planning their trip well enough Does anyone know a simpler way? (edit: and now 80% is the new defaul…
