Could you place something around computer case vents to attract incoming or outgoing dust? It would just seem to be a beneficial future is all, maybe something that could gain some electricity from the computer to attract it around the vents.

I was thinking about differential gears having discovered them in Lego Technic recently and been impressed by there working. Using only simple cogs that turn along the conventional axis. Shafts that are cylindrical, connect the gears together, don't move around except rotation along their usual axis, the usual three input\output differential gears and rigid parts that hold things in place what sort of logic could one construct? When two gears are connected the 2nd turns at the same speed as the first but in the other direction, like a multiplication by -1. A trivial setup with differential gears allows two inputs and one output where the speed of the output is the…

Inventor! What is the only software package that xittenn is aware of? What software studios are available for the purpose of real or non-real time constrained simulations in dynamics and engineering? I have seen mention of a few where biochemistry is concerned. Are there more general purpose packages available or are they for the most part highly specialized? Is this kind of software more so developed in house as opposed to purchased? Do I have to have a Unix/Linux OS to be able to use such software? I have mentioned I'm making my own and have to this point thought little to nothing about what may be available. I'm a little afraid to research as I do not wis…

Ok hey guys, I have a USB device that was working fine about a day ago and suddenly it begins to malfunction. On many computers that I have plugged it into before it installs the driver software again and stranger it installs this USB 30X Drive software at the same time. I have no idea what it is but The moment that had started it began to fail, I have a feeling it may be a virus but I'm not sure. However, the computer recognises that my USB has been plugged in but all it says is Removable Disc (E:); and when I click on it, it says that I have to insert a disc in to that drive. Also on every computer I have plugged it into, it registers as the E: drive. Anyone h…

Hello all, I am trying to implement photo-tourism project. As a first step I am trying to compile what is already available online. There are some packages available from Washington University called 1. bundler(http://phototour.cs.washington.edu/bundler/), 2. pmvs2(http://grail.cs.washington.edu/software/pmvs/) and 3. cmvs (http://grail.cs.washington.edu/software/cmvs/). These have to be compiled and implemented sequentially as given above. I am trying to implement them on a Ubuntu based 64-bit machine. I was successful with bundler but run into a problem with pmvs. The package does not seem to have any binary files which I could execute and the document…

I am trying to clear something that seems to be a little misleading for me. I know the language over {a,b} consisting of all words containing the same number of occurrences of the symbol a as of the symbol b is not regular. I know that the language L over {a,b} consisting of all words containing the same number of occurrences of ab as a substring as occurrences of ba as a substring actually is regular. What would be the best way to prove this? by finding a finite automaton that accepts this language?

It perfectly suits the needs of the majority of computer users. Pros: 1)Bootup speed 2)Lasting speed from files being stored online vice on HD 3)Browsing speed from using Chrome browser 4)Accessibility from being able to access information via other machines 5)Sandboxed applications 6)Verified boot 7)Minimal security risk if device is stolen 8)No loss of information if device is lost Cons: 1)Subject to loss of information upon server destruction(could be sidestepped by thumb drives) 2)Security risk if password is sto…

I just thought this article was a little interesting. It kind of suggests that I, for one, should be looking for updates in XNXMath and other various libraries. I'm not sure how to view this in perspective with the push for parallelism and gpu side programming.

I had an assignment due a couple of days ago asking how priority queues can be used to improve efficiency and benefit mapping software (ie. google maps, map quest) I've search far and wide and only came up with these 2 points: - they improve efficiency by assign a higher priority for locations searched more so they are accessed easier - they allow programs to find the shortest path between two locations My professor emailed me back saying I need atleast 3 more points as to why priority queues can be used to benefit mapping software. I'm totally stumped and can't find any other advantages to using them. Can someone give me a few pointers?

I asked on Gmail forums 3 times but it seems my questions were removed, because in each instance they disappeared and got replaced by this notice highlighted in red: "part of your question has been removed". Except the question's completely gone without an explanation or notice sent to me. The question... "Can you get SMS email alerts from only specific people, so you don't get alerts from any other emails?" Maybe someone here can answer it for me. Any of you with Gmail care to try posting the same question on its forums? When you enter Gmail, click on "help" at left ---> forum. I'd like to know if the same happens to your question. I'd als…

Hello everyone. I have a question about AP Computer Science AB. I plan on taking this course next year as a senior in high school and pursue a career in Computer Engineering or a Systems Analyst. I love me some computers. Now, I have heard that some knowledge about java language is helpful prior to taking this course. As of right now, I have downloaded the Java Development Kit (JDK) and Dr.Java in hopes to get a head-start. I wanted to know if anyone could give me a push in the right direction from here. Where do I start learning the very basics of Java? I have some experience on Python, but Python isn't used in AP C.S. So a push in the right directio…

  20. I recently found a new toy while essentially "mining" the internet for computer science stuff. It uses advanced technology from A.I. and Human-Computer Interaction to simulate the reciprocation of human social interaction. If you click on the first link in my signature, you can chat with my chatbot, CyberDucky. You will find that as you explore different topics of conversation, CyberDucky will exhibit his own personality including a complex response system. You can create your own chatbot, or CyberTwin, if you click on the second link in my signature, go to the Login tab, and then create an account. The personality of the chatbot you create is made possible by answering a…

  22. I like programming, so thats one of the reasons I plan to major in computer science. Also, I like the idea of working with computer graphics and systems for artificial intelligence. But I keep on hearing a lot negative comments about the CS major, here are a few: 1. People who study CS are computer engineering dropouts who decided to take the easy way out cause they couldn't keep up with the difficulty level of CE. 2. Most of the students are gaming nerds who have no social life. 3. Computer Science is a limited major compare to computer engineering. I've also heard that an engineer has more job openings and has much more knowledge than a computer scientist, since he/…

Patients entering the waiting list specify not only their names but also their ages. Each time the doctor wants to visit a patient, the oldest is selected and removed from the list (so children may have to wait a very long time). Write a program, based on elementary sorting techniques to sort this list on first on Age and then on Patient ID, which this doctor can use. Before PatientID Name Age P102 Arif …
