Hey Everyone, How would you program this in simple way? I am trying to Create a program that Asks the user, via JOptionPane, to input a temperature value in Celsius and Convert this value to an integer. i also want it to Check if the temperature is below -15 degrees. (Use a constant to store this value.) If so, instruct the user to change out of their shorts and put on a light jacket. How would you program this? (new to programming)

I am making a 2d grid out of a single array and need to access locations around a given index. The array represents a 2d grid, where the array spirals out from an origin location (index 0). The reason for the spiral is to allow my 2d grid to grow large in all directions. How do I calculate the indices of the locations to the right, left, above and below the given index location? Here is an image to help:

hi guyz.... this help is not in programming but somehow part of a study... am looking for help that knows what are the numerical equivalent interpretation of 1.00 - 1.80 1.81 - 2.60 2.61 - 3.40 3.41 - 4.20 4.21 - 5.00 ...what are the interpretation of each numerical equivalent result??... besides the poor, fairly, good, very good, excellent OR very unaccepted, unaccepted, fairly accepted, acceptable, very acceptable. .... ..will use the interpretation of each result for the Weighted Mean Interpretation for User Acceptance Test for program design... Thank you.....

I was wondering, at this day and age, what graphics card do you recommend for a dual monitor set up? This is not for me, but for a friend. He wants to run 2 1080p monitors, and he games a lot. He plays games like Call of Duty, Minecraft, and Battlefield 3 (and other games, not sure which ones though). He wants to future proof his machine, for the upcoming COD Ghosts and other graphically intense games. List of things he was wondering: -How many GB of DDR5 ram? -Any specific models? -What to look for in graphics cards? Thanks.

Hey everyone. It's been about 3 months since I've programmed and at that time I had just finished a semester of Software Design in Java. Now I'm in a C++ class and was asked to create this program. Mind you, we haven't been taught anything yet, first day was full of introductions. So we were told to read a few chapters and do this program. So between being rusty with my programming and never really programming in C++ before, I'm having a little trouble. On Wednesday he assigned 180 pages of reading along with 2 programming assignments which are due tonight. Just started the program this morning since I've been reading a lot so please don't think I was being lazy haha. …

I am trying to use k-means clustering to profile usage behaviour for mobile device users. My data consists of different system and user level variable/readings like number of calls/sms, cpu/memory usage, number of users and system applications/services etc. The readings are taken every 5 minutes from mobile device and scaled between 0-100. The clustering is done in MatLab on computer. The idea I have is to use say 1 month's data for training, i.e. clustering, and then use the future data to compare with existing clusters and try to find (dis)similarity between the two. The assumption is different users will have different usage; hence readings from USER B will not fit…

Is anybody interested in having a software for converting command line applications to graphical/windows versions? For example you have old program which can be launch only from command line. After converting it, you will get window with parameters to fill in, files to choose and buttons to run command. No more need for running command line (CMD). If some people will be interested in I will start this project.

This bit taken from another thread, gave me this idea. I've heard these analogies before, but never with a comparison to computer games. So my question now is, how hard would it be to have a non-euclidian game universe? Say, a first person shooter with 3 space dimensions, 1 time dimension, and a closed space-time? Would people get the hang of warped space? Or would they get incredibly annoyed? Could one of the physics/graphics engines be modified for this purpose or would you have to start from scratch? Would graphics cards be useless for this?

Hi everybody , I'm a newbie, I don't know if it's the right place to put this question, but I tried to looking for a specific field and I didn't find it. I'm doing a thesis for my university, and I have been looking for information on cloud computing. For my introduction I need to find what was the job of the developers and system engineers/administrators before the advent of cloud computing. For example: write code to create your web-app setup a Apache web server setup a sequel database, and connect it with the Apache web server some way to push out new versions of your code when you update your app some way to monitoring your app so you can see if it's down, see how mu…

I am not a computer science student, but I am attempting to write some code to carry out the voronoi construction for my research. The one thing I don't understand involves creating the binary tree to store the arcs along the beach front. The problem is that each internal node can be used to represent the breakpoint between two parabolas, BUT parabolas generally intersect at TWO points, not one! I don't know which point to use for the breakpoint. So I am having a difficulty resolving this situation, perhaps I am overlooking something simple. If anyone can offer some clarification on this point, I would appreciate it, thanks.

What if we built a supercomputer and fed it all the mathematical knowledge we have today and allowed it to use this knowledge to prove things like the Goldblach conjecture or the Reimann hypothesis? The computer would go through its database and create a solution or a number of distinct solutions which mathematicians would later try to decipher. This computer could also be used to make new connections and create new theorems or new entirely mathematics. What do you think of this?

Do electrostatic air cleaners or negative ion generators pose any threat to home PC? I've heard one must use antistatic mat, wristbands, etc., when opening a PC case (which I never intend to do), but I will be using 'mobile-racks' to switch hard disc drives, and 'docking station' for HDD backups. Are the aforementioned air purifiers any threat?

Hello, I have a few questions regarding computational power. In the far off future, I imagine creating a realistic virtual reality, a cybernated solar system composed of a sun like star and numerous habitable planets and moons with the same complexity of life on Earth. For this solar system I would like to create 100,000 computed humans in it. All of them would have consciousness. And perhaps the ability to even download my own consciousness into these virtual worlds. But there are issues with this concept, the first one is no one knows exactly why we are conscious beings, that is currently being researched, the second being is processing power, all of this simulation wo…

With a DSL connection, the digital information is converted into analog as the phone line is analog. How would, for example, a byte, be sent over an analog line? Which part of the analog signal determines the data? For example the byte with binary digits 10101010, would a higher amplitude signal be sent for the 1s and a lower amplitude for the 0s? And what is the time gap between the bits? I.e say there is a 1ms gap between the bits, the analog line would be in a high amplitude state for the first ms, low for the next, high for the next..... or is that the completely wrong idea? Can someone please help me with this? Thanks.

Hello, I´m trying to implement an algorithm of this paper: http://www.bmva.org/bmvc/2012/WS/paper5.pdf It´s called "Training process for all target postures" algorithm, in the page 6. Basicly it´s a technique that use adaboost and SURF (extractor of features) for hand posture recognition. Like I wrote before, I´m trying implement but i still didn´t understand this algorithm. The problem are some question that i have, like: What is the matching score list, mention in page 5, last paragraph? What is the relationship between threshold and the training process (trainning algorithm)? In the line 7 of training algorithm: Which is the return of the function ht(Ix,ft,tet)? I…

I'm a computer science major and I was wondering how important calculus grades (and GPA in general) are for this major. At the moment I have an A in my programming and Math courses, but this is mostly due to generous curving on my math professors part and while I'm doing okay in Calc I, I am struggling through it and am worried about future math courses. Is it worth stressing too much over? Of course I'll try to do the best I can, but is it really just more important that I understand programming and get good grades in those classes? Or is this a field where you have you show you are good in math and programming? Anyone else a programmer who isn't too great at calcul…

So, I'm familiar with the "use it or lose it" concept, but with programming there are so many languages and so many ways to program that it seems impossible to keep all of that information. I have taken about a year and a half of programming, finishing all of my lower division courses. I even got A's in every class (except for my first, which I got a B. Starting programming was rather hard for me). Next semester I am going to take an Exam in Programming Efficiency, and looking over all of the subjects covered I feel like I'm going to have trouble with it. Things like hashing, the several searching / sorting algorithms for data structures, writing operators, I remember do…

To start with I don't have any knowledge in computer programming so basically I'm an idiot in this field. I'm planning to actually create a 3D MMOFPS like "Infestation: Survival Stories" and so I bought a Unity Pro 4.0 since it is supposedly ranked #4 as one of the best engines however, it still requires script writing. What kind of programming language is the easiest to for me learn? and the best to learn Game Programming?

hi first sry for my bad english. I'm a computer science major and Im looking for some articles about relation between mathematics and computer sciences, Im looking for something like linear algebra in computer graphics or surface integrals in robotics, Iv searched alot but I didnt find what Im looking for ! and I dont khow where to seek, I want some articles that really shows how computer graphics is based on linear algebra or other things line that. I am working with openGl now and I khow something about computer graphics but I want other articles too. I am interested in everything that shows the relation between mathematics and computer sciences. thank you

Hi. Watching videos on youtube, there is ocassional pauses as the real time 'play' can be used up by a slow internet connection, if am explaining properly. So I select a less 'demanding' resolution. I get more interruptions and slower 'spooling ahead' when a low resolution as 144 pixels is selected, than when -say 480 pixels- I thought the opposite; that requesting/demanding a lower resolution, more frames or more downloading ahead would happen for a given internet speed available, yielding less interruptions. ----> What may be going on ? Can someone explain it ? [ What I call 'spooling ahead' can be monitored by placing the tip of the mouse arrow…

i recently realized that although i've known forever that memory exists only as a base 2 to the power of x (128, 256, 512, 1024 etc) , i've never quite learned why... so why can't we have 500GB or 1000GB? why must it be 512GB or 1024GB instead?.
