Mosquitoes are popularly known vectors. Anopheles being that of plasmodium spp ranging from malariae, to falciparum, other species too (e.g culex) are vectors of other pathogens too. The mode of feeding of mosquitoes (i.e piercing and sucking) which is the means through which the patogenic parasites are injected into the body is my concern here. Does Mospuitoe's coming in contact with the victims/host blood define a means for transmission of contagious disease like HIV/AIDS and the likes

Survey on Professional Life: American participants needed! I am a PhD student in psychology at a German University and examine the “professional life of working adults in America and Europe". At the moment I am looking urgently for American working adults (does not matter what occupation) that would take part in my short online survey. You would help me a lot to finish my studies if you would participate in my survey and send this link to other people that might be interested. Overall, the survey takes *about 5 minutes (only 4 pages)*, is completely anonymous and data are only evaluated within this survey and not given to any third parties. If you ar…

Type 1 Diabetes is known to be caused by a genetic predisposition to autoimmune destruction of the beta cells of the pancreas, triggered by the patient's encounter with some unknown environmental factors. The genetic predisposition is not a very strong factor, however, since while the background risk of type 1 diabetes in the general population is 0.3%, for the children of type 1 diabetic fathers it is 7% and for the children of type 1 diabetic mothers it is 4%. Monozygotic type 1 diabetic twins are only 50% concordant for the disease, which seems quite strange, since they are usually raised together and are thus not only genetically identical but are also exposed to al…

What is it about internet forums that attracts control freaks as moderators? Is it the sense of POWER they feel possessing the 'banned' 'suspended' buttons? Do they enjoy total control because they have none over anyone in the real world? Were they robbed of a happy childhood, had an unhappier teen age hood, moved up to a miserable adulthood? Why can't they control their vicious instincts? Should they seek psychiatrict help or go to a churh where they will hear words like "Love" "Truth" "Honesty." Posters on this forum, we need to have compassion for these moderators. They can't seem to help themselves, so let's help them through prayers. A look at the list of b…

I asked my Doctor last week if he could put me on the list for a Uterine Transplant. I told him it was my hopes that by bringing it up now I would be in a better position to receive such a surgery, should the surgery gain some mainstream availability. The problem is that I am now thirty-two and it may be quite some time before this could happen. I'm just wondering if anybody has any foreknowledge about this sort of thing. Is forty-five too old to have a surgery like this? I hadn't wanted to have children until in my mid-forties so really it isn't a terrible inconvenience and I will probably adopt should I be with a husband and am settled. I mean they give reall…

  16. Hello! I'm working on a project about body/skin de/hydration. I'm interested if there is already a known technique or technology with which we could measure body/skin de/hydration in a simple/easy and quick way? I know that there are already certain techniques/technologies which are measuring de/hydration, (for example urine and blood tissue testing), but I would like to know if there is a faster and more simple technique/technology which we could use in our daily routine(and if it is also accurate)? When I was looking for answers I found those techniques/technologies: - Fingerprint senzor - Corneometer - Nova DPM - Pulse oksime…

  17. I've recently been attempting to investigate the causes of Restless Leg Syndrome and have been disappointed with the results -- it seems as though RLS is the licorice jellybean of Medical Science. The consensus seems to be that RLS occurs in whoever and whenever simply because it can, and further research into the matter has been neglected. 'Just because' is never a satisfactory answer in my eyes, so before I abandon mission, I'd like to know if anybody could shed some light on this topic. I am aware that the hormone Dopamine is thought to be a prime culprit in the formation of RLS, but judging from personal experience and experiment, I was expecting a strong link between…

I am having a hard time locating peer review literature relating specifically to this topic. Can anyone point me in the right direction to help me answer the following questions? 1. Does nicotine addiction negatively impact a persons ability to maintain self discipline? 2. Is there evidence to suggest that ex smokers significantly increase self discipline and is this a result of training the part of the brain that influences self regulat…

We live across the street from a power substation and have had several noticeable health problems since moving in. We have had the water checked, there is no mold or anything else obvious in the house. The house is about 300' from the substation. We had the local utility company come out and show us how strong the emf's from the substation were and they didn't seem to be even as strong as they were from our microwave. We also notice that we can't get reliable cell phone service in many places in the house. That's also true for outside the house in certain areas that are about 30' from it. There is a spot in the living room that I notice a low-grade but obvious vibration a…

After my research, I have come up with meniscus tissue, cruciate ligaments, articular cartilage, and tendon. I have not written enough content yet and was wondering if there are any other structures or something I missed? Thanks.

  23. A lady told me that she substitutes grape fruit and tomato juice for coffee. She says its a real energy booster. She drinks a full glass of grape fruit juice in the morning and then at noon she has two glasses of tomato juice with her lunch. Now I doubt this can have the same stimulating and energy boosting effects as caffeine but I'm wondering if there's anything to the claim that grape fruit juice and tomato juice can boost one's energy to even a small degree.

Hippies throughout the western world will be interested in the findings of a new study which has discovered the benefits of psilocybin, the psychoactive compound responsible for Magic Mushrooms. Scientists have found that the hallucinogenic active ingredient within the mushroom could help to treat a wide range of psychiatric disorders including depression, anxiety and addiction. The study provides guidelines on how much of the substance should be taken in order to deliver maximum benefits with minimum risk. It also warns of the dangers of paranoia and delusions if a safe dose is exceeded. One of the most interesting findings confirms the experiences of …
