If a person sticks to this diet alone for a month would there be any serious side effects other than fairly rapid weight loss? The diet is 120 calories from fish 200 calories from potatoes 100 calories from mixed frozen vegetables. 1 or 2 cups of tomato juice at 50 calories each as much celery (plain) as you want because celery is a negative calorie food for a maximum of 520 calories a day. By my guess I should lose 1 pound every 3 days for a total of 10 pounds.

Is there a method researchers can use to measure a person's degree of satisfaction? What hormones or chemicals are measured if we wanted to guage a person's happiness? Or do we measure brain activity? What area of the brain is asociated with happiness or satisfaction? If it were possible to do such research, media executives can more accurately predict how much satisfactions viewers will get from movies, books, newspapers, etc.

Hi guys I'm am an English teacher and have a ten year old Korean private student who is painfull shy. I have recently noticed that his jaw clicks sometimes uncontrollably and it makes a huge sound and almost looks painful. I was wondering neurologically what is going on..? His muscles seem to convulse on their own sometimes but I'm not sure if that's just being restless as some children are when they study. I will also be asking about this in the psychology section but I'd really like to get a complete picture/understanding so I can help him. Thanks JH90

I think the answer is no, but I have some wax for my braces which I left exposed to the air in the bathroom. Then I cleaned part of my trumpet out, and left a rusty metal snake on top of the wax. Anyways, I rinsed off the wax under hot water, and I just want to double check that the rust can't hurt me when I use it in my mouth.

Half genuine curiosity and half WTF?!ness, does anyone know if there is any physiological effect to rubbing Vicks VapoRub into the testicles/scrotum? For instance, does it have any effect of sperm and general semen fluid production, either by decreasing or increasing the rate of production? Anyone have any other thoughts/feelings or insight into the idea, either from a physiological or even a purely sexual point of view?

Hi: There are many cases of patient who are "clinically dead" and are then brought back to life. During this 'death', these patients are able to perceive the universe in locations beyond the range of normal perception. For example, such a patient can see what is happening in other parts of the hospital and outside the hospital. What the patient perceives is often confirmed by real events. In addition, patients who are born blind can see during this out-of-body-experience and patients born deaf can hear. What are the scientific explanations for the above interesting facts? How can one perceive beyond normal sensory mechanisms? How can one born without sigh…

According to this article, the belief that alcohol kills brain cells is a myth. I thought this was a scientifically established fact. Is it not?

Hello, I was watching the finalists videos of the spacelab competition (where teenagers come up with experiments to be done in the ISS) and this kid caught particularly my attention (video here: http://goo.gl/HIbKf ) -at the end when there is written in an anotation that this could be useful to medical research. Do you really think that we could use sponge-like spicules to somehow concentrate drugs near the tumors?

Hey guys! So I have a question. I work a retail job, and I work a lot of hours(I pulled off 78hours monday to friday this week[friday I only work 8am-2pm], and that's not the most I've done. so on avg mon-thurs is 18hours a day), and I don't get much sleep. I've worked a few 20hour days back to back before with maybe 45mins to an hour or so of sleep in between shifts if I was lucky. I've been doing this since September and I'm 20 years old. Anyways, getting to the point, I recently had a work week week were nearing the end, my head felt like I had a tight hat on. Kind of like my head was swelling. Some friends have told me it has something to do with liquids to my …

First post here and just starting to dig into this topic, want to be sure I'm understanding some of the terminology. I am seeing Alveolar Hyperventilation and Respiratory Alkalosis used seemingly interchageably. Is this right? Likewise if anyone has a reference to works concerning VOCs emitted during Alveolar Hyperventilation..I'd be interested...Thanks!

Was watching a doco about this and how humans and great apes are the only species that seem to realise that their reflection in a mirror is them and that they therefore have self awareness. But I was thinking about this in terms of my dog. I find it very difficult to believe that Rocky does not have just as intense sense of self awareness as myself, even if he does not have the cognitive capability to project himself into his own future or perhaps even into his own past. Yet according to this test, since he would not be able to recognize himself in the mirror, he therefore must have not have a sense of self awreness. Surely the mirror test is more a test o…

Having taken part in a thread that challenged the mirror test (I believe correctly). This Ambiguity throws up a question. If there are animals selfaware and animals not selfaware means we have an awareness graph. This also means we have a point at which basic selfawareness starts. Any ideas what that animal or genus might be?

What is the best way to lose belly fat, and keep it off? By best I mean safest, most efficient, fastest, convenient way to do it. I box so my upper body is good, and I run so my legs are ok, but i have just this ring of fat around my belly, and sides that makes me look very unsymmetrical

I've read that cold baths after exercise is somehow a good thing, and pro athletes do it too. I don't particularly know what's really going on in there but wouldn't starving muscles of oxygen be harmful? After all, it's a survival function that blood go away from extremities when on low temperatures. Wouldn't a cold bath(or ice bath, even worse) 'kill' starving muscles? I personally wouldn't like to be suffocated.

Hello, this is my first time posting in the forums, and I wanted to know if there were some posters here who could help me with an anatomy concept that's driving me nuts. In my anatomy/physiology class, we are currently learning the different types of layers. I understand the classification of layers, how to name them, etc. What is blowing my mind is the following: If simple epithelium is made up of only ONE layer of cells, how in the world could it make up the structures in the body which are, by logic, made up of thousands of cells? Even stratified epithelium that I find pictures of on google and such show that the difference between the apicl surface and the baseme…

Apologies if I have put this in the wrong forum, couldnt see anywhere in biology where this was quite right... I often hear various permutations of the statement that every atom in your body is different after a period of x years. Is there an authoritative source for this? Secondly, surely there has to be a positive probability that some of the atoms in your body are the same after x years even if it is in acompletely different place...and a very small chance. Thirdly I am sure I read that after a certain age the body does produce any new brain cells, so presumably this means that for the 7 year rule to be true it must be somehow rebuilding the same cell? Thank yo…

I'm thinking theres not much iron and maybe vit A in there. Guess its steak and carrots tomorrow lol.
