    I'm not entirely sure this post should be on this specific forum, so if not, please move it to where it SHOULD be. I'm just not 100% familiar with the entire subject. I just finished watching a startrek episode (yes, I'm a geek, we already know that, deal with it) and I started thinking. The idea of a "folding" universe is something we hear about a lot in Startrek episodes but not ONLY in startrek. It's a theory I've heard a lot that if you take two points in the universe and would like to travel faster - you need to actually "shorten" your journey and do it by "FOLDING" space.     I dont know whether this belongs in here but this has been weighing on my thoughts recently. Imagine a sheet of ice only a millimeter thick. If i throw a rock at this sheet of ice, obviously the ice will shatter. But how does it shatter on the atomic level? If we could see individual molecules, then what happens at the breaking point? What im asking, does the energy from the rock transfer into the chemical bonds releasing them from one another thus allowing the ice to break apart? Or do the molecules remain intact, being moved by the force of the rock?

    Hi everybody. I have always been intrigued by the concept of teleportation and with the recent advances in quantum teleportation at the University of Innsbruck, the results are encouraging.     Could someone clarify and define these for me? Critical mass is when you have enough of a substance to start a chain reaction right? How does an element become radioactive? Can every element become radioactive? Is uranium-238 radioactive? How much uranium is used in chemotherapy? If plutonium was found in the ground, even a minute amount, would you receive radiation poisoning? Thanks.

    here is wave equation: I know that any function of x-ct variable will solve the above equation, where c is wave velocity. Below is an example of wave written as wave packet with Ai - Airy function. the first part of equation describes propagation of wave' envelope with group velocity and second part, Airy function, describes propagation of wave itself with phase velocity. I noticed that both parts can't be written as part1(x-Vg*t) and part2(x-Vph*t) .... so are these parts still represent traveling waves? If so then is it true that any function f(x,t) with x appearing only once in power 1, will describe travelling wave? thanks

    Does anyone know why certain isotopes are put in the periodic table? Do they put the most stable ones or the ones with least ammount of neutrans (unstable). They say collisions between branes may have caused the big bang, 1) but how did they cause the big bang, 2) did the branes bounce off of each other or could they have passed through each other 3) and what would happen with continuous contact between branes?
