Does anyone know where I can find Berkensteins original reasoning/derivation for the entropy bound? I think the papers is "Universal upper bound on the entropy-to-energy ratio for bounded systems" and it was published in Physical Review D 1981. Is is available for free download somewhere? I'm sorry about the lame question, but I don't have access to those archives. But is the paper published elsewhere? /Fredrik

I was wondering if one were to construct a reaction camber that contains a high vaccum and were to annihilate fractions of grams of matter/antimatter (lets say p-pbar) would the resulting energy release produce any pressure on the reaction chamber's inner wall? I know that matter antimatter reactions pretty much destroy all of their input matter (assuming equal ratio) and the resulting particles would have a very small (even insignificant) size relative to the volume of the chamber. So I am going to assume that the pressure would be negligable if any at all? Am I right or wrong?

I`ve been thinking, since Alpha radiation is helium nuclei, Beta is electron and Gamma are photons, Alpha and Gamma are fairly useless, but Beta seems to have some interesting Potential:-) if I have a conductive dome such as used in a Van de Graff, but rather than transport the electrons up into it via a belt, I had a chunk of Radium or Tritium salt inside it, it Should work, shouldn`t it?

I have a certain problem that has been bugging me. I'll try to set up the problem at straightforward as possible. (1) It is accepted that a top quark has the mass of 174.3 +/- 5.1 GeV, which in analogical terms is about the mass of a gold nuclei. (2) A top quark is much smaller (in size) than a gold nuclei. (3) A top quark can't possibly be more dense than a gold nuclei because it is made of only itself. (disregarding any bizarre fringe physics) (4) So a top quark is the same mass as a gold nuclei, but it smaller, yet not more dense. How is this possible? Thanks, Jordan (Ekpyrotic)

I have written a package for Mathematica that alters the noncommutative multiply to take into account Grassmann parity. I have also written some basic functions that may be of use. It can expand expressions over the noncommutative multiply, collect terms involving Grasmann odd elements, it can give you the even and odd parts of a superfunction, it can give you the body and soul of a superfunction. I have also defined differentiation of odd variables from the left. At some point I would like to extend the package to include supermatrices and calculate the supertrace and Berezinian. Is there anyone on here that would like to test the package for me?

Yeah even I heard that. The fine structure constant is changing i.e. alpha = e*2/hc. If this constant is changing than one of the other constant should change. The value of alpha is 1/137. But there is no abrupt change and its just 1% true and 99% fluke. I think it is the speed of light which is changing. I don't know much about cosmos.

so.... I've been working on this science project for a while, it involves sticking bits of metal inside of a glass bottle, then placing the bottle inside a microwave. the end result of this is that a ball of plasma forms inside of the bottle and hovers around the neck of the bottle. after doing a fair amount of work on this project I'm kinda at a standstill as to why the plasma doesn't leave the bottle through the open neck. I would attach some pictures however I don't have any server to host them on.

Is the concept of time somewhat biological or human perception type construct then as put forth in physics? I have a somewhat gut level idea that maybe time as we study it is a product of animation, such as a chemical reaction takes x amount of time to occur. Last example of what I am trying to get at is this, is time a product of natural phenomena or is time its own thing. If time is its own entity how do we know?

I`m sure many have also wonder about this. electron flow creates a magnetic feild. magnetic feilds resemble gravity. gravity can effect light. magnets can effect electron flow/paths. electrons can be made to emit light. light can be made to emit electrons. so it all seems to be a sort of incomplete corellation. as in can electrons be made to effect gravity, can light make a gravitational pull or infact make magnetism? is there a common denominator between these feilds at all? I`ts been bugging the hell out of me since I was a kid, and nothing I`ve read on here come close to an answer (or at least one I can make sense of LOL). IS there a common factor…

I've heard a lot of string theory and it's descendant, M Theory, but what little I have heard leaves me with more questions than answers. Where are these strings and membranes located? What is their nature? Are they made of energy or matter? Also, I hear about eleven dimensions. I'm pretty sure I can understand this if I'm taught it, but I've heard no answers. All I hear is that there are eleven dimensions in the universe; ten spacial dimensions and one time. Where are these seven other spacial dimensions located and what's their nature? What exists in these seven extra dimensions? I'm confused as hell. Can someone explain this to me?

this sort of laser uses a relativistic electron beam passing through a series of magnetic feilds to produce coherent light. i'm a little confused as to how it gets into the soft xray spectrum. surely the alternating magnetic feilds would need to be set up at the wavelength of the out put or shorter for the electron to oscillate sufficiently. as far as i can gather, it relies on relativistics to get past the microwave range. can anyone clarify this?

Ok so atoms repel each other. To gain a bond between different atoms there must be enough force for the two to bond and make a molecule. So does this mean that technically my fingers are not actually touching my keyboard, that it is just magnetic force between the atoms of the keyboard and my fingers that i feel or are the atoms literally bouncing off of each other?

I remeber reading the book Quantum a guide for the perplexed, and in one section about Black holes, the contributer Paul Davies mentions negative energy, the Casimir effect, and the negative energy flux going into black holes; which on it's own I found intriguing and enthralling. Hi. Recently heard of the rise of new theory in fundamental physics- The String Theory or M-theory. It says that the world is made up of 11 dimensions, about 6 of them are folded around one another and 3 are what we are familiar with(the age-old 3-D). first this folding up of 6 dimensions doesn't fit in mind. second- 6 and 3 make 9 dimensions-- Where are the 2 more to make a total of 11???
