I'm a medical student, helping out a friend in her research in Ozone and how it effects Embryos... where would I look for any available data on any related research... I already searched in google for few days now, but it seems like the only reaserch done so far is how well ozone acts as a disinfectant on eggs. pls help us out

  • 2 weeks later...

mainly because ozone is used as an disinfectant with chick eggs, also recent years there have been some reaserch with human embryos too but I can't find reaserch details just that they have done, if it's not allowed to ask the same question 3 times, sorry I was just desparate. |

I know how to search in google. it didn't do much help

The Effect of Disinfection of Hatching Eggs on Hatchability of Oravka Chickens

Abstract

The aim of this the work was evaluated effect of disinfection of Oravka hatching eggs by formalin gas (20 g KMnO4 + 30 g formaldehyde of 40 % concentration to 1 m3 of a space) and ozone (0.450 ppm in time 12 hours) on fertility, hatchability, spontaneity of chickens hatching and embryonal mortality during incubation. The hatching was realised in Bios Midi incubator at a standard technology process of the hatching. We recorded a positive effect of disinfection of ozone on hatchability from fertilised eggs (91.79%) compared with disinfection of formalin (91.10%) A totally embryonal mortality of chickens had not record any difference between two methods of disinfection but we recorded positive effect of ozone on embryonic mortality of chicks to 7 day of incubation and from 15 to 21 day of incubation. We searched more spontaneous chicks hatching from hatching eggs disinfected by ozone in 510 hours of incubation. It is possible to recommend disinfection of hatching eggs by ozone, as an alternative way of disinfection of hatching eggs usable in hatching practice, on the base of obtained experimental results. This way of disinfection hatching eggs is more ecological not only from the point of environment, but also of the healthy of employees of the hatchery.

The effect of gaseous ozone treatment on egg components

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Because of the salmonella problem in poultry, disinfection technologies are necessary. Ozone is a strong oxidant used for the disinfection of surfaces, drinking water and foods. However, since ozone not only destroys bacteria but may also damage eggs, it is necessary to clarify the effects of ozone treatment on hatching egg components. In this study, doses of gaseous ozone ranging from 10 to 50 mL L−1 were tested. The vitamin A and E contents and fatty acid composition of the egg yolk were determined. To detect possible damage to the DNA of the germ disc, single-cell gel electrophoresis was used. Moreover, free SH groups were measured in the egg white. The soluble cuticula proteins were analysed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.

RESULTS: The yolk was not significantly affected by ozone treatment. However, the DNA of the germ disc was attacked and a significant decrease in free SH groups in the egg white was recorded at 50 mL L−1 ozone. Even at low ozone doses the soluble cuticula proteins were completely destroyed.

CONCLUSION: Significant alterations of egg components were caused by 50 mL L−1 ozone. At lower ozone doses the oxidative processes occurred mainly at the egg surface and are therefore probably harmless to the developing embryo. Copyright © 2010 Society of Chemical Industry

Edit: Just realised it's the effects on human embryos you are after..
