I once talked to an English teacher about "reading speed." Him and I both felt that we like to take our time with reading. This means we don't try to rush and read 14 pages an hour. I attempt to understand and comprehend what I am reading. Personally, I've been able to move my reading speed from about 5 pages an hour to about 7 to 8 pages an hour in the past year. I think that's good progress. However, I'm thinking that it's still considerably slow. I'm mostly reading either chemistry books or biology books these days. Let's say I find a science article that is written in a foreign language. How do I go about getting it translated to a decent amount? I found one recently that involved the metabolism of puffer fish in relation to TTX. I am not adept in the language it was written in, so I could not read it. I am assuming there would be difficulties with using a simple online translator. Perhaps there would be jargon that would not easily translate, and perhaps key details would not be brought out from such an electronic translator. I apologize for the very similar thread to the one below me, but after explanation they are rather different. Hello. I have spent two years at a public university in a biology program. At first I was BS, then changed to BA. Now, I don't know what I want to do anymore. Ok, for my Science in society coursework we he have been asked to read a book on science. This could be fiction or non-fiction. The book i am currently reading is called: "Beggars in Spain" by Nancy Kress (fiction). In this book it goes over the story of a group of children called "Sleepless". Okay, I don't really know where to go so I'm just going to give the lowdown. I'm just a guy who's interested in science. I'm only in high school. I'm only in grade 10. Seems so young compared to the rest of the forum... but I don't see how it should be a damper on my interest in science.
