Unity+
So, I have noticed that many of the members who have been associated with either trolling or preaching on this site have done similar things on other sites. I was thinking that there could be a tool developed that allow the moderators to use the information provided by those type of users and be able to use that information to do a massive search of anything related to that user. For example, I noticed that many of these types of users use avatars that are photos of other people who are still alive, but have no association with this type of forum or have interests involved in this forum. For example, I used google image search for avatars from some of these type of users and found that they had no association or interest in this forum. I don't know if this would help any, but just something I noticed. There are probably loop holes around the idea.

Google works pretty well for this.
StringJunky
Google works pretty well for this. Yep, if it's out there Google's got it.
Endy0816
Yeah, I generally take a look at Google if a post is questionable. Should attempt to give benefit of the doubt though you do need to know who(or what) you are responding to. Several who have done poorly elsewhere have done reasonably well here. It only seems that the worst of the worst are virtually foregone conclusions.
Dekan
Members seem to be fighting each other about "Rep". Was that what it was really about all along? Not Science, but "Rep". I always suspected it.

I always suspected it. Since you're the first person to bring it up in this thread, it appears that you are party with the complex about reputation scores. Dekan
Arete,, I know my own rep is very bad. That used to hurt me so much, that I didn't even want to look at the site any more. But I've got accustomed to it, and can bear it better now. To get back to the thread, I thought it was just about Rep points. But actually it's more than that. Unity's OP refers to using information to do a "massive search of anything relating to that user". Doesn't that sound sinister.

But you should know that anyone at any time can make a search on you. I remember a misunderstanding I created on this same Forum with another member. He challenged me to find info about him and it took me less than 15 minutes to divulgue I don't exactly remember what (his name, address, when he married, the name & school of childs, such kind of things). And I am not a specialist. That's the Internet. Beware. ------------------ Note: I won't do that again.

Endy0816
It's what we call doxxing. Yeah, you shouldn't release someone's info but it does tend to be fairly easy to find out. I try and dox myself every so often. Cut some of the more obvious connections between my RL and online identities. ...and thank you for reminding me to do just that Edited December 29, 2014 by Endy0816
