Quick LaTeX Tutorial

What do you mean by abreviations. LaTeX doesn't use any abreviations in Greek letters. [math]\alpha[/math] is just \alpha, [math]\beta[/math] is just \beta, [math]\gamma[/math] is \gamma, and the capital letters are [math]A[/math] is A, [math]B[/math] is B, and [math]\Gamma[/math] is \Gamma. No abreviations.

test:[math]\lambda[/math]

some sybols use abbreviations. like infinity isnt[math]\infty[/math], it is [math]\infty[/math] or square root, or fration. i just assumed that some of them would be abbreviated

lambda, not lamda. all greek letters are given by slash(full name), capitalized for capital letters.

there is also varphi and varrho if you like that kind of thing

\[ \eta_{\rho\sigma} = \Lambda^u{}_{\rho} \Lambda^v{}_{\sigma} \eta_{uv} \]

My bad, habit.

Say, is the LaTeX module down?

what's the tag for "greater than and equals to"?

testing [math]\frac{dy}{dx}=y^{2x-1}[/math]

cool!

[math]v=\frac{meters}{seconds}[/math]

thanks dave!

How do you post the not equal sign (=/=)
It's \neq

Example: [math]\neq[/math]

Also, I vote that the "Quick LaTex Tutorial Thread" be cleared out, so that it can be a bit more effective reference for forumers. Just keep any "tuorial" posts and the links to LaTeX references from the thread, and remove everything else.

For convenience, here's all the references that were in the thread:

http://www.maths.tcd.ie/~dwilkins/LaTeXPrimer/ - the LaTeX primer

http://omega.albany.edu:8008/Symbols.html - some symbols that you might find useful.

http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/info/symbols/comprehensive/symbols-a4.pdf - A relatively small' date=' ([i']approximately 2.3 MB[/i]) comprehensive set of symbol tables for [math]\LaTeX[/math'] and some of its add ons.
here is a really short guide. with most of the notation in there

:-(

Unfortunately, blike's domain expired and hasn't been re-registered yet - we don't have any access to the offsite server for the time being. Things should be sorted in a couple of days, though.

Thanks :)

I'm thinking that some of you more techy people out there might want an option to display MathML instead of the normal images. Is there any usefulness for this amongst people, or am I wasting my time?

Incidentally, I might be pushing images over to PNG for better transparency. I've found a fix for IE to do proper alpha blending, so I'll try it out next week some time.
