Timm-i
Does anyone fine it outstanding that every 4 seconds, a new Hydrocarbon in discovered? Which can then be used for medical use, and potentially save people?
DrP
Every 4 seconds?? Really?
iNow
First, how about a source? Second, it's probably an average over some longer time period being shared.
Timm-i
Yeah, i can believe that, but still... its awsome And its just as simple as adding a methyl group to one chain of carbons! I was like, ''OMG!'
iNow
Yeah, now about that source... How exactly have you arrived on the position that a new hydrocarbon is discovered every four seconds?
Timm-i
Bit of information from one of my lectures! [=
iNow
I'm having a really hard time buying this, Timm-i. It means that in the time between when you opened this thread and made that last post that 2,745 new hydrocarbons have been discovered. No way. I think you either misinterpreted something from your lecture or reported it incorrectly here. In the two minutes it took me to write this post, you're suggesting that an additional 30 new hydrocarbons have been discovered.
Timm-i
It true Think about it! Every different Perfume is a different Hydrocarbon! It may be as simple as switching the position of a chlorine atom, or a Methyl branch, or even changing the shape of it! [= Another example, Thalidomide... It was created as Medicine for morning sickness, but turned out to have awful effects on the children, and its simply because of one Chlorine branch! =/
John Cuthber
Thalidomide isn't a hydrocarbon and doesn't contain any chlorine. No hydrocarbon contains chlorine. Very few drugs are hydrocarbons.
