Very cool pic of the Large Hadron Collider on today's Astronomy Picture of the Day:

Pretty exciting that they're just about ready to fire that thing up. Almost makes me want to donate CPU cycles to the LHC@Home project.

I don't think LHC@home is running anymore. Afaik, it was supposed to help designing the storage ring, not for analyzing the data of the detectors.

You have to hit it from a distance of 27 km (which is also where the previously-mentioned LHC@home comes in) >:D

You mean I have to hit that hole behind where you're standing?! I used to bullseye wamp-rats in my T-16 and they're not much bigger than 2 meters. ;)

Er... no. You have to hit the beam coming the other way, which is roughly 10 microns in diameter.
