I'm thinking about combining some catagories. I don't think there is a need to have everything so specific.

 

Also, thinking about allowing images in posts..

Combine astronomy/astrophysics, all the engineering forums, relativity/quantum mechanics and maybe lump QM with it

I agree with fafalone. The catagories can be less specialized but I would like to be able to submit pictures.

images would be okay, in my opinion.

images are fine, on the proviso that there is a rule stating that they must be relevant to the topic, and preferably not 1024x768 true colour

Pictures are usually just a link arn't they, either open in another window, or current.

 

Current window pictures can take a lot of bandwidth, and make low bandwith users chew up their allotments.

 

I think users should be alerted to links, generally posting a precis of the link and the link ( to be opened at their option) would be best.

 

This type of forum has no mechanism for update notification other than checking the "home" or thread etc....this is consuming bandwidth!

I didn't know anyone still had "bandwidth allotments" with their ISP service!

You can check "Email notification" that will email you when someone replies. Very annoying though.

zarkov. people pay to look at circus freak shows. this does not mean that being in a circus freak show is a good thing.

oh. less forums would make it easier to follow the threads, for example the proposed condensing of some of the physics threads.

Australia has nazi ISPs that charge you if you go over a bandwidth limit per month. Images can be turned off in internet explorer.

they do have fosters how ever...

I pop in and sometimes I don't have a lot to add but I'd like to say I was here and talk off topic. Just one non-specific section for a little chat.

what about suggest a 'history and philosophy of science' forum? at the moment that sort of thing would go under 'metaphysics and pseudoscience' which excludes quite a lot. or there's GD i guess.

Might help get the attention of potential users who don't find the approach of the forum layout diverse enough.
