We progress because we are able to think !

We Humans have made a lot of Progress and invented many things to make our life easier and live successfully !
However this is due to largely to our marvellous Earth which has helped us.
It has facilitated Life and enabled Land dwelling Life to thrive.

Especially our ability to lie down Sleep and think or sit in offices and think out methods for our progress and implement them !
This is due to our Landspace which is an ideal platform for living rearing our progeny and educate them leading to Progress !
Also the right and friendly atmosphere in which we can breathe !

When I wonder why the water living Life has not progressed I see that the land beneath them is not hospitable for them to lie or rest as it is too deep and water pressure beyond tolerance ! Therefore they can not rest and think comfortably. Also no landspace to build on.

Therefore if the atmospheric Pressure which is about 14.7 PSI is increased to tens or hundred times it will be impossible for many lives to survive. The deepsea bed having 1000 times water pressure crushing everything !

The Earth having the right amount of atmosphere perhaps because of the right amount of Gravity does the trick !
Giving us the right Atmospheric Pressure 👍

Having opposable thumbs has helped greatly in making tools.

A significant part of our issues with water pressure is we breathe atmospheric air, which most sea-dwellers do not. I think pressure is somewhat less of an issue than you imply. But if atmospheric pressure were increased that would mean an increase in gravity (and/or other environmental changes), and yes, that would have affected evolution

You should flesh this out a bit. Lots of species "think". What makes human thinking different?

I'm in agreement right up to the "Land dwelling Life". Many marine species are thriving too.

I'd have to know how you define "Progress" before I can agree with you. With the rest, you sound like Douglas Adams' description of how a puddle thinks the world is made just for them.

Remember, we adapted to the environment, not the other way around.

Seconded.

Technology is a unique metric for thriving/progress, and a very human-centric. Like a tall person insisting that height is the true measure of human value. Bacteria might insist on population as being the proper measure of progress.

ETA: you suggest technology as a metric; our technology has allowed us to live in environments not hospitable to naked apes. Some organisms evolved such capability

Believe it or not, the Challenger part of the Mariana Trench, at a depth of 36000 ft. does support active life.
