It's more likely you got Dv's bc you lack the hubris necessary to learn anything of value... 😉

I’m open to learning, which is exactly why I participate and share. But learning doesn't mean silence or deference — it means thinking critically and testing ideas, even if they’re new or challenging. If sharing a fresh approach looks like 'hubris', maybe the field could use more of it.

Hubris is excessive pride and self-confidence. How does lacking it prevent learning? Perhaps you meant it’s opposite, humility?

I think it's fair to say that I'm the DV king, in terms of numbers, I seem to piss a lot of people off, mostly by asking why.

If you can support your hubris, then good luck to you; most of us can't...

It's almost always a double edged sword...

Did i claim to know?
Its a computer program used for modeling or something.

I will try not to continue arguing with a elder on personal issues.
Thanks for your perspective.

You asked someone to send a POSCAR file. What were you thinking would be done with that when it arrived? Have you got access to VASP?

I’ll be happy to help simulate or evaluate it using open-source tools.

I stated ¨ I will be happy to help simulate or evaluate it using open source tools¨.

Once again, your assumptions about this subject are wrong. One of the current Admins (and part owner of the forum) joined when he was 12. He made a lot of bold assertions, had them picked apart by the members, dropped them to move on to other bold assertions. At one point, he admitted to me privately how old he was. By that time, he'd learned enough science that his assertions became supported hypotheses, so I told him it really didn't matter.

If anybody thinks "you can't write this", it's not because you're 15. It's because you're generally trying to overreach your own education. You make a LOT of assertions that don't match up with mainstream science, mostly because you haven't learned that part yet. Filling in gaps in your knowledge with stuff you've made up is dangerous. The stuff we make up makes such perfect sense to us, because we designed it specifically to fill a gap in our studies, or to explain something we don't yet understand.

I would like to think the mods may step in if a poster was liberally dishing out DVs.

We have done so. Some members have had the privilege removed.

I suspect it was because of the difficulty reconciling what you posted (e.g mentioning band structure and phonons) with “I’m a 10th-grade student, and I’ve only studied basic physics from NCERT so far — Newton’s laws, gravitation, sound, and motion.” when phonons and band structure aren’t part of those subjects.

I believe it’s best both of you clarify or make terms with the DM’s

The problem with this claim is there’s no way to verify if it’s you gaining knowledge or just copy-pasting things. The incredulity comes from people who have actually gone to university and know how hard it is to actually truly learn these concepts, and just reading some text on a screen doesn’t lead you there. In a university setting you could take a test, but here if you were asked such questions there’s no way to be sure if the answer is coming from you or from something you looked up.
