Why are we more civilised than the ancient greeks?

We aren't. Civilisation is a moving standard. We will look uncivilised and barbaric to our offspring far down the line. Unless Mad Max was a prophecy.

I've been learning a little about emperor Julian, the last Pagan Roman emperor. He thought Christianity was a regressive step to classical culture and advocated freedom of religion. With the hindsight of history it's hard to argue he was wrong.

I think we tend to get confused about the term's of civilised and advancement; we have better gadgets therefore we're more advanced (better, cleverer). 

I think we should investigate that assumption because they're not equal.

I chose the ancient Greeks because they built their civilisation on the back of slaves, we just call them the poor.
