  1. The US has never been 100% separation of church and state. You can not get in power if you a Atheist. The US has always been religious. The Republican push it alot and Democratic try to keep it out of government.

Look at the evolution debate in school ,money in god we trust and Pledge of Allegiance so on are very hot topics now.

Just like in Canada separation of church and state but is not 100% .It is conplex problem do to the people before the 60's where very religious and it plays a big part in government and history.

It only now we have different beliefs and all that.It was very very very big taboo to say you are Atheist before the 60's .Still is now but not so much before the 60's.

The US has more separation of church and state than in Canada but it is not 100% separation of church and state. In the UK and France atheist is okay and not a taboo like in Canada or the US.

I don't think any country in the world is 100% separation of church and state other than the communist countries that gone to the opposite extreme.

  2. There soo much debate now in the science community and myths that are not proven true or false.

Many scientist say stress can cause gray hair or thin, bold hair

Many scientist say smoking pot can lead to lung cancer or kill brain cells and lead to short term memory proccessing problem.

Many scientist say brain cells ,heart cells and the spine do not devide or grow and injury is for life.

Many scientist say too much cell phone can lead to cancer.

Many scientist say stress or anger can cause ulcers and hernia.

Many scientist say kidney stones is caused by stress, anger or junk food.

Mnay scientist say this is true and many say this is a myth.

What is wrong with sciance today? How hard would it be to prove this true or false? Why do sciance do not want to look into this?

People like myself are losing faith in science it not like it was before. And the media keeps bringing this up all the time.

  3. It is interesting how apparently the Chinese have a different opinion about the cost effectiveness of wind energy...

Although they have a plan based economy, they too will do an economic analysis and make an estimate of the value of wind power. They must have arrived at a very different conclusion.

It worries me that the economy, which is the argumentation for almost every decision in our world, is apparently a very subjective thing.

Get the book on Al Gore it will answer the energy problem and gives the solution!!

Front cover of the book.Check amzone or your local book store if they do not have it they can order it.

it funny how the conservatives say there is no option but fossl fule and this book proves there is solution.

  4. The right's machinery tries (via con jobs) to define the left. But their made-up definitions either fall way short of reality, or compare them (dishonestly) to unrelated systems in nations lacking our Constitutional protections, freedom of expression, adequate system of defense lawyers, or healthy separation of powers -- at the very least.

In the real definition of progressives and liberals, these groups don't fit it: militant rebels planting bombs to fight oppression; tyrants proclaiming to be communists yet nearly identical to tyrant leaders in right-winged nations lacking our free press and civil rights; many political groups with a narrow axe to grind.

    Certainly they're not the left....

It more complex than that.I will reply when I get my thoughts on paper on this subject. In Cabada the liberals have move to right and are not that differ from conservative. The liberals differ on social issues and some are neoliberalism and others support some parts of socialism.

There differnt types of liberal thought.

  5. We commented just yesterday about how the Chinese are ahead of the U.S. in things like high speed rail, and now a new report from the wind energy sector reconfirms how we continue to lag behind a growing competitor on the world stage. Just released data from the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) suggests the U.S. wind industry reported its slowest quarter since 2007, while China installed nearly three times as much new power from this form of renewable energy.

  7. While I think it would be very difficult to make the case that "being gay" is a fetish, what we find when we look at adult sexual behaviours is that there is a surprisingly high incidence of straight men who fantasise about or actively take part in sexual activities that we would strongly associate with homosexual males. I think it's important to acknowledge the difference between an activity and a state of being; one lends itself to being described in terms of fetish; the other not so much.

Taboo !! People may have been gay or had fetish but was a taboo to talk about it.Now people are coming out and talking about it.Even today it is still a taboo but the they are trying.

  8. The Health Care Crisis and What to Do About It

You may what to read Paul Krugman and Robin Wells the growing health care crisis all profit getting in the way of healthcare improvement.Lack of incentive for getting out of the health care stone age to a new state of the art healthcare.

  9. Maybe the aging population isnt driving health costs, after all

Its become conventional wisdom in discussion of Canadas near out-of-control health costs: spending is being driven to ever-higher peaks by the demands of a fast-aging population. But is the wisdom based on fact? One of the most intriguing, and under-reported, aspects of a major report issued Thursday, suggests otherwise

  10. I agree with you that anticipated improvements in medicine, the media reports of which have misled many people into thinking we are on the verge of great progress, will only materialize in the distant future, if ever.

Medicine is stagnating in cancer treatment and research and with little to no improvements at alll in the past 15 to 20 years !! There is alot of information out there how the body works but it not that harmful with a lack of information on treatment .The medical community seemms to through sugaring and medication at all problems .I'm not saying medication does not help but it is false to think that there will be medication for every medical problem.

The aging process, cancer and autoimmune problems seems to be a brick wall .Think of cancer ,agging or organ going bad has a house full of holes .You have to option replase or use a god like power to tell the brick to heal or go back to where it was before.

You cannot send a message to cells to heal or go back to where it was before because how will you do that you cannot. If there is a chemical balance problem or going after a antigen that is easy with drugs or antibody. But telling cells what to do ,fixing the damage cell/DNA or mutation is other story.

We do not know how to manipulate anything at a cellular level if we did aging process, cancer, organs going bad and autoimmune problems will be of the past.

On a last note rocket research and airplanes are coming up to a brick wall too ,I doubt planes will be much faster or much bigger than what it is now.And rocket research is coming up to a brick wall.

The information age and computers still have a alot to go but even in the next 10 or 15 years silicon computers will come up to a brick wall has the transistors will be at a atomic level that is how close. Well we will have to go to quantum computers or optical computers or computers will not get any faster.

  11. You don't understand.Science is base on the laws of physics at the best of the ability at that time.If you are taking all the scientist in the world to court to explain how a UFO works it is false to say it does not violate the laws of physics has we are too primitive to understand technology and the laws of physics thus it is real propulsion .

It is wrong to assume it is not possible do to we are too primitive at that time to understand the UFO .It is wrong to assume that if you are person from the middle age transported to the modern world to say it does not violate the laws of physics do to we are too primitive to understand it or it is not possible and magic.A scientist does not make such claims . A scientist with the best of the ability at that time would say there is well forces at work that seem to violate the laws of physics and thus we cannot say it is real or not .A scientist may investigate it or not .That is the what a free country is the scientist can do what ever he or she likes but must show proof of the propulsion system.

No scientist will cover the paranormal activity because there is no tool or repeated results to confirm it.The levitation or anti-gravity did not come from UFO claims or UFO investigators but people in basement who claim they invented such devices with no proof.

The claims of UFO using element 115 or megnetic propulsion came from UFO investigators of military sources out of area-51. To there is proof of a working propulsion system or government disclosure those propulsion system will be fringe science.

  12. You are making an assumption here that is not valid, all UFOs do not do things that are impossible by what we consider to be laws of physics, (the word is debunk by the way) actually not even most can be said to do do things that are impossible by the laws of physics as we under stand them.

BTW, i am using the term UFO by the original definition, an technological object that cannot be explained by conventional means, not anything that is seen and unknown to the observer...

All propulsion is governed by newton's third law a oject must through mass one way to cause the craft to move the other way .All rockets Ion propulsion , plasma propulsion , laser propulsion , ramjets or nuclear or even chemical propulsion use newton's third law .All propulsion would make a noise and through mass one way to get the craft to move the other way.

The claims of UFO using antimatter, negetive energy,levitation,anti-gravity,element 115 or megnetic propulsion is fringe science .Well antimatter is hard to make it needs very fast and costly particle accelerators.NASA does not use antimatter do to it is very very ver very costly and hard to make.It is also hard to control.A antimatter a size of your fist would destroy all of New York city.It will be 100 or 200 years before the technology is there for antimatter. And most likely it will be used in space not earth atmosphere do to it is so not safe and that is only with some amazing technology to lower the cost and production of antimatter in the future.

No one nows if negetive energy is real or not. Has for anti-gravity know one really understand gravity and if there is such a thing has anti-gravity. Well magnetic porpulsion is not yet possable has there have NOT been any discovery of any monopole .

Levitation, with the exception of superconductive or otherwise magnetic repulsion (used in maglev trains for instance) is pseudoscience.

  13. I don't see anything in your data to make me change my views that the gains in life expectancy in the modern world were due to factors having nothing to do with advanced medical science. Improved hygiene, better nutrition, clearing of swamps and the decline of malaria, reduction in infant mortality and puerperal fever, were the truly significant causes of today's improved lifespans. The data you provide on the lifespan at various ages in the Roman Empire confirm rather than refute my hypothesis, since they show that in Ancient Rome people who made it to 70 were likely to live to be 75, those living to 65 were likely to make it to 73, those living to 60 were likely to survive to 70, and those making it to 55 were also likely to live to 70. This shows that once infant mortality, early infections, and childbirth-associated deaths were taken out of the equation, the life expectancies reached without any advanced medicine were close to those found today, suggesting that modern medicine has not achieved very much.

Read my other thread why there is no cure for cancer and most likely will not be with today's technology. Well organs going bad is a problem at a cellular level and because it is a cellular problem. No drug exit or the know how to manipulate anything at a cellular level. And transplants are the only option.

In the future 100 or 150 years artificial organs may be a reality. It is too crude now and a very very very long ways off to a prototype.

I hear that some doctors think in 50 years we can use pig organs for transplant.

  14. I don't want to hijack the other thread so I posted it in a new thread.

I was reading on wikipedia and some articles that some doctors and resarchers believe it may be environment or learned behavior.

The theory going around is a learnt behavior ,trauma experience ,exposure or experience to a person to have such a desire.Well there are hundreds and hundreds of fetish it can not be all genes poiting to that fetsh .Also gays ,lesbian, transexual and bisexuality was a taboo 50 years ago it was illegal. Other psychiatrist believe it can be frustration a person has a high sex drive and cannot have sex or look at porn so may bridge into other things to fulfill the desire.

No doctors or resarchers seem to know much about this other than some theory going around

Where do fetishes come from? "It's a complicated answer, to be addressed on an individual basis," says Barnaby Barratt, Ph.D., a sex therapist and president-elect of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists. Though the cause is unknown, experts theorize that an experience with masturbation as a young child - often one that has been long forgotten - could develop into a fetish for an object that serves as a subconscious reminder. For more on fetishes, see Fetishism.

    More information here.

    http://healthguide.howstuffworks.com/fetishes-and-other-sexual-preferences-dictionary.htm

Modern psychology assumes that fetishism either is being conditioned or imprinted or the result of a strong emotional (i.e., traumatic) experience. Physical factors like brain construction and heredity are also considered possible explanations. In the following, the most important theories are presented in chronological order:

Alfred Binet suspected fetishism was the pathological result of associations. Accidentally simultaneous presentation of a sexual stimulus and an inanimate object, thus his argument, led to the object being permanently connected to sexual arousal. About 1900, a sexologist named Havelock Ellis brought up the revolutionary idea that already in early childhood erotic feelings emerged and that it was the first experience with its own body that determined a child's sexual orientation. Psychiatrist Richard von Krafft-Ebing consented to Binet's theory in 1912, recognizing that it predicted the observed wide variety of fetishes but unsure why these particular associations persisted over the whole of a lifetime while other associations changed or faded. In his eyes, the only possible explanation was that fetishists suffered from pathological sexual degeneration and hypersensitivity.[citation needed]

Sexologist Magnus Hirschfeld followed another line of thought when he proposed his theory of partial attractiveness in 1920. According to his argument, sexual attractiveness never originates in a person as a whole but always is the product of the interaction of individual features. He stated that nearly everyone had special interests and thus suffered from a healthy kind of fetishism, while only detaching and overvaluing of a single feature resulted in pathological fetishism. Today, Hirschfeld's theory is often mentioned in the context of gender role specific behavior: females present sexual stimuli by highlighting body parts, clothes or accessories; males react to them.

charles darwin would say a species most propagate to have offsprings so the male species would try to mate with has much female species has possible to have offsprings and the desire part of evolution to make sure the male will mate has much has possible.

    Is homosexuality a mental illness?

    http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/48358-is-homosexuality-a-mental-illness/

  15. You can't separate out homosexuality from sexuality. The former is just one particular expression of the latter.

I'm not sure what you mean ? Are you saying homosexuality or fetish is genes has all sexuality is genes ? What about all the differnet types of fetish is that genes .

Is that what you and iNow are saying? When did psychiatrist no longer say learnt behavior ,trauma experience ,exposure or experience ? Do wikipedia search or check a youtube search psychiatrist say they think not proven yet learnt behavior ,trauma experience ,exposure or experience ?

Has that change now? Are psychiatrist closer to proven of what cause it now than just theory ?

  16. As CharonY said, there are some qualitative differences. The most targettable one seems to be their rapid reproduction -- reproduction is a complex process with many requirements and many things that can go wrong, so it is a good target. This is why the common casualty of cancer treatment is loss of hair, since hair also reproduces rapidly.

I did not see that post .Where is it? Where was he explaining that.

  17. Well I think alot of things like homosexuality or fetish is a learnt behavior or a trauma experience and has nothing to do with genes.

Quite a lot of contemporary research flatly contradicts your opinion.

At one type this was a theory going around.I don't think doctors really understand but learnt behavior ,trauma experience ,exposure or experience was a theory going around.I'm not sure if doctors really understand now what cause it.

I also think some things like homosexuality or fetish may be frustration a person has that has a high sex drive and cannot have sex or person that is horny but cannot have sex or look at porn may start to bridge into other things to fulfill the desire.

That sounds like it has come from someone who doesn't have a lot of sexual experience, to be quite frank.

Not that it really matters since anecdote and opinion aren't scientifically persuasive even with the weight of personal experience added on top.

Telll that to your psychiatrist next type you go in and say you are gay or have a fetish.Even if you are not gay or have a fetish.I dare you !!!

  18. Nonsense. We're all predisposed toward pleasure... Every single one of us... That's how behaviors get rewarded and activity conditioned. The only real difference is in where we find that pleasure, and how. Some like vanilla, some like chocolate. So the hell what?

That is true but some people known to lack dopamine have higher addictive personality. Also some people are more pleasure seekers than others. This may explain why some people have a higher sex drive or harder time to stop drinking or getting of hard drugs.
