  1. Well, my site can be found by clicking my sn If you must insist, though: 1veedo It's at the verry bottom.
  2. I didnt really like the movie. Read the books; they're awsome. The movie might have been better if you had not read the book; they left a lot of really funny stuff. They'd be at a spot in the book that was absolutely hilarious and either a) Screw it up b) Leave it out. I was more disappointed then board, though. It was alright but I think it could've been better.

I cant wait to get brothers in arms.
  4. Ok, I give up. It works, technically, but I can just go through every possible http call. When I tried a couple random sites w/ it, I didnt get the friendly gray and red screen, but I got a forbidden message to the first call on an image that was not broken (ie, http://site.com/whjatever instead of /whatever). But I found another project like this and have it hosted Feel free to use it.
  5. I tried: And I'll show him this thread. I'm back in Linux though. I must say, Windows sucks. Really, really bad. I put the entire case that holds both my HDs into a newer model of emachines. Instead of unscrewing each HD individually. This computer also has an unbeatible monitor! I mean, everything is just buitiful over here. I'm going to temporarily put the windows HD back in my root hda and boot knoppix up to coppy all their files over. Maybe I can get my sis and dad to use this computer under Linux. My dad hates M$ but thinks Linux if for "computer geniuses." He seems to know more about the flaws in Windows then I do So if I can make fstab auto-open konquorer when he puts in his camera card... He alread stores all his files on this computer because the Windows NTFS partition isn't the best in the world. Plus if windows stoped working, the fix is to reformat
  6. I agree. The open source philosophy is nothing like what RHAT has been doign recently. It is fun to note, though, that RHAT is released for free under the name CentOS. It's more or less like Fedora but it was compiled entirely from the sources to RHEL, which is what certain industry products are compatible with. This just goes to proove that nobody can make a monopoly from Linux or any other open source GNU released software. It also proves that open source is more efficient as Silencer mentioned:

BZFlag. I dont like playing games because they wast your time. But w/ BZFlag you can play for like 10 minuits and join instantly. Stratagy games are fun, but I only play them in the Summer. 8th grade was a bad year, a very bad year indeed. Civlization (2?) came out and you can just loose track of time! Geeze, a game lasts for liek 12 hours!
  8. Me too! I always make him wear a condom though, so dont wory
  9. The new ArchLinux looks pretty goot for noobs. I tried installing it but it wouldn't let my partition the drives I'm sure you can but I couldnt find a way. Definitely though, from waht I saw of the install, this distro is probably made for simplicity.
  10. After looking at my motherboard I discovered everythign is melted. My board is just fried. Do you think runnign Linux could make things melt and stop working? It's an emachines. I left FC3 running for the past 3 months before my system quit on me. And my dad is getting a new emachines instead of a) Letting me build one (and not pay greedy M$ $200) b) Get a new motherboard for the system Oh well. Too bad it wasnt just the fan, although I think it had a problem because the areas that look bad are right around the CPU! I ahve head that desktop comptuers aren't made for servers? I don't get much trafic but I never turn it off.
  11. Hey, if anybody wants to meet me: 4:15 if you reside in WV, Charleston I can PM you the specific theatre. The friends I'm goign w/ are complete nerds though. I'm not inviting my GF because of them
  12. Well, there is no "central control" to my computer. And indeed the keyboard and minitor turn off. By "still on," I mean still getting power. My CD drive will not open but it has a red light and will play a CD inside it; also, the volume works for headphones. I was also suprised that holding the power button turned it off. I always thought the power button sent a signal to the motherboard; apparently it goes to the power supply? I found some stuff relating to my problem: It all has to do w/ the CPU. http://www.devhardware.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41670&page=1&pp=15 http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=18292 Both problems are not exactally like mine and google ansers doesnt provide a fix. it is the posters after the google dude that seem to be of some help. I'm goign to check into it more when my dad gets back. But again, this isnt exactally my problem. I think the "metal screw, ""bad fan connection," or "bad circuit" could be to blaim. Possibly even thinking it's too hot though I dobt it. It would follow that after setting the computer would run longer. This is not the case; it halts when the fan is "powering up;" it gets loud because you're loading the OS or entered the BIOS. When I put a grub floopy or this other bootloader I use for CD/HD boots it will sit there forever and NOT stop. I think it's because I never hear the fan start spinning load.
  13. I was actually thinking of swaping the HD in this computer for the two in my other. By the end of today I at least need one hooked up in the secondary slot. The only problem is that a) I need to read extended partitions (no big, though) b) Read the Linux formating language (again, no big) But I still want the other computer up. Plus my dad seems to like Windows. If only I would've put everything on one disk. But no: SWAP , /home, and /usr on diferent HD's makes Linux run faster I have knoppix though, so as long as my /files partition is in this computer I can easily put up my web server and do everything I normally need to do.
  14. Oh. That's not an away message but an autoresponder. I don't mod my AIM so I couldn't tell you. There are bots that do that, though. Like, you dont even need it; find one, register, and you can send buddies IMs even if your off. That way you can tell a friend "I'm going to the movies at 8" while you're away. But no, sry. If my other computer was up I could give you some links that would have this kind of information (deadaim stuff, not bots).
  15. Ok, my computer is f'd up. When I turn it on, it runs for a while (maybe 2 minuits, sometimes 30 seconds) and then just stops. The monitor turns black and the CPU fan stops running. My guess is that the motherboard is not gettign power becasue the HD's still run and the CD drive still works. It's almost like the computer turned off except that things are still buzing in there. Just not my fan. I've confirmed that it's not software level. At first, before I opened it up, I thought it was but when I was in the install wizard for FC3 it did it again. It also does this when I boot into my unfinished gentoo (I dont think I can get gentoo to work...). I really need this computer back. If you try to goto my website, I can assrue you that it's not there So any ideas?
  16. If you were actually thinking about modifying the code. I persoanlly cant help you there but I'm sure their website could help you out some. If you could identify the call to %n and how the program displays away messages I'm sure it could be pulled off. However, I think IM doesnt know if somebody has viewed your away message. It's probably sent be whatever server your connected to and if you edit your message then it uploads the new one. Yeah, you might want to do some research because it could be impossible locally.
  17. Actually, I need a new computer. I'm about to start a thread in the comp. sci. about a motherboard that looses power! Btw, I didn't find a website under your sig? Not that I want to invest but if you make computers w/ Linux on them... It's a possibility over making a new computer. (I never ever want to buy another computer; they come w/ windows and therefore M$ gets 100~200 of my money even though I'm never going to use it)
  18. My AIM Ultimate-Profile that I used to work on and host would do this for a profile. All you'd have to do is say [sn=SN]Whatever[/sn] and your specific message would show up. Of course, you have to click a link with target="_top" so it's not like you can mod your own away message in the "root" message field. I don't do much application codding (esp after I moved to Linux...I have to learn everything all over again) but you could...use that character that IM recognizes as "input viewer here"...%n or something. Anyway, you could use that (even a high-level call) to find out who's viewing your away message and if it matches, echo something special for them to see. Even check it against an array if you want several friends to see it.
  19. Yes, there will be a way to get images. I think I have "links" figured out...but for some reason my site wont brows yahoo. They do some wierd things w/ CSS and javascript. Displaying images is queued next. I'll be owrking on that and (hopefully) finished by the end of today. It would be sooner but I have other stuff to do. For images, the script is going to somehow create synbolic links through my www root Yes, that's the only way I can think of doing it! Except for the slower download image and place it in folder w/ links to then...
  20. NM about my special function, I'm writting my own. if(substr($page, $x, 2) == '<a' At least I think this will work.
  21. Ok, that's what I was wondering. Looks like I need to go the other (harder) way: I'm using implode(''' date=' file($_GET['s''])). The way I'm goign to do this is send .php?s= to a site w/i a frame. This way pesky admin wont be able to poke in your history and find where you went. Same goes w/ title; I am not goign to have a title like the two services I have linked to at my site. The only problem is in-site links. If I make everythign ina frame I can have the main source check to see if it's framed (I'll find a way, trust me) and react accordingly...this way the sites you went to would be behind the frame.
  22. I give space and bandwidth to people I know well Find somebody who seems computer witty and ask him if he's running Linux. Then ask for some disk space.
  23. That's why I was asking "waht company." I know there are a couple comertial distros but there are also companies that back up Linux and mail CDs...I just want to know who people would invest in for Linux. PS: I'm under 18 but I can buy in my parent's name here in the US
  24. I have written a php/html script that will (maybe) allow you to bypass internet censorship at work, school, library, etc. I do not know if if works or not but bassicly it oppens the site in a frame at my site. However, I just realized that censorship programs might be able to track the URL of where the frame is at? So I'm working on something new that will completely send a site through mine w/o a frame but I cannot make images and apps show up on the page; jsut the raw html of a requested page. Another problem is that links would have to go through framed.php and I do not want the url tagging the end of it. This ultimately results in two diferent methods to accomplish the goal; Just fram the blocked site, or load the blocked site transfering the data to the user. The anticensorship program is at my site. The first (just framed version) is here(nothing big): //Framed.php <?php $site=$_POST['site']; $data = fopen('f'.$_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'], 'w'); fwrite($data, $site); ?> <script LANGUAGE="JAVASCRIPT"> <!C- if (top.frames.length!=0) </script> <FRAMESET rows="99, 10"> <FRAME src="<?php echo $site; ?>"> <FRAME src="http://1veedo.homelinux.com/f1.php" SCROLLING="no"> </FRAMESET> //f1.php <?php $site = implode('', file('f'.$_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'])); ?> <form action="http://1veedo.homelinux.com/framed.php" method="post" TARGET="_top"><center><input name="site" size=99 value="<?php echo $site; ?>"><input type=submit value="Go"> <font size="-1"><a href="<?php echo $site; ?>" target="_top">Unframe This Site</a> <strong><a href="http://1veedo.homelinux.com/" TARGET="_top">1veedo</a></strong></font></center></form> The alternate version of this; my attempt to load everything and send data directally from a censored site to me to the user looks like this: //Altered framed.php <FRAMESET rows="99, 10"> <FRAME src="f2.php?s=<?php echo $site; ?>"> //f2.php <?php $page = implode('', file($_GET['s'])); $x = 0; $page .= '~!'; $site = ''; while($page{$x} != '~' && $page{$x + 1} != '!') { if($page{$x} == 's' && $page{$x+1} == 'r' && $page{$x+2} == 'c'){ if($page{$x+3} == '=' && $page{$x+4} == '"'} { $x += 5; $l = $_GET['s']; if($page{$x} == 'h' $$ $page{$x} == 't') $x += 6; while {$page($x) != '"') { $l .= $page{$x}; $x++; } $site .= $l; }} $site .= $page; $x++; } echo $site; ?> Note that as it is, the second way does not work at all. This is the very basic idea though <?php $page = implode('', file($_GET['s'])); //Alter page...$site = $page[modified] //echo $site echo $page?> The last one will get the html of a requested site displayed though images etc do not show up. I may be able to forget about the second method if the current one actually works. ...Anybody want to help?
  25. I want to invest. Not really a lot of money, just a few shares. And I've decided to invest in Linux! I've looked for some "linux stock" but really havn't found much. http://www.bullsector.com/linux.html I don't know what most of the symbols are though. 1. First thing's first: How do I buy stock? I'm pretty sure my bank can do this but not possitive; and, I dont knwo if they charge. Next time I'm out I'll ask somebody there. I know I can sign up at a couple websites I've found, but I want to just buy more or less "directly." In other words, I do not want to pay $6 to buy $20 in stock. 2. I've looked at "LINUX" and it's been going up, but who exactally is LINUX? VALinux or something...never heard of them but they're associated w/ sourceforge. I know Novell is like NOVL and Red Hat is RHAT. So if you were going to buy stock "in linux" waht symbol would you use? Accordingto Yahoo, RHAT is 11 and NOVL is 6. 3. And to finish things off...What are some good investing resources? I know about yahoo finances, and I found this newsletter called the Monthly Fool. But what do you find usefull?
