  1. That's funny. Reminds me a bit of the work being done on attention, and how it's a limited resource which can only apply to certain things.
  2. Hi Tar, I'm not certain if I agree with your use of the reward/punishment distinction with this work. It sounds to me as if you think that being able to understand the minds of others and other such things results in a reward response in the brain (yes, we do understand reward and pleasure systems in the brain very well... just ask people who work with cocaine addicts, for example). I don't think the reward system is activated by this ability, though. If you are suggesting otherwise, I'd welcome some supporting evidence which shows that our ability to mentality rehearse interactions with unseen others and that our ability to assign false beliefs is somehow connected with the reward/punishment reinforcement systems (and how those abilities interact with dopamine and serotonin levels, etc.). Again, I really don't think these underlying neurological mechanisms are tied in any way to behavioral reinforcement as we understand it. I would need to see some articles to be convinced otherwise. However, what I DO think is that these mechanisms have been reinforced evolutionarily... that they have been selected for. I see them being reinforced from one generation to the next, but that is a completely different form of reinforcement than the "sex feels good" and "pizza makes me happy" types of reinforcement to which you seem to be alluding.
  3. This nicely summarizes one of my biggest issues with all of this, as I've pointed out in numerous posts already.
  4. I am unsure where the break down is in your understanding, but this is simply untrue, and the evidence shared with you in this thread demonstrates that. Simply repeating yourself does not make that evidence go away. They ARE different. Do you also think we should discard the theory of electromagnetism because it doesn't explain gravity?

I watched and enjoyed it. It's a fresh twist, and they can really do a lot with the new platform they've built for themselves. They also did a great job with early character development, so I'm hopeful. In my experience, far too often some of the syfy stuff fails some pretty basic criteria of a good series. I didn't get that from last nights episode, and it reminded me a bit of BSG, which is good. I must concede, though... I'm not a very tough critic. I've long enjoyed the SG series, and I'll watch it even if it's crap. Folks can watch for themselves here:
  6. This might help: http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/phy99/phy99471.htm Or this: http://science.howstuffworks.com/helium2.htm Or any of the other ones google showed me. One cubic foot of helium will lift about 28.2 grams. You can get the rest from there.
  7. Sigh. I have no problem with the definitions you are using for your types. I have a problem with how you are applying them, how there is no confirmation that the application is accurate, and with all of the other gaps in your hypothesis regarding typing people based on facial features alone (as I've already posted about like four times). Further, you've already negated your own hypothesis by conceding that identical twins can have different personality types... hence, facial features are not an accurate indicator. There's really nothing left to discuss at this point.
  8. So, instead of addressing all of the other countless criticisms directed toward your idea, you are content to play "gotcha." Interesting approach. Sorry for standing in your way. I should really be ashamed of myself.
  9. Appeals to authority mean nothing. Let's see the data. Also... on another note... Shat exactly is it that you wish to discuss? At this point, this is nothing more than spam coming from you... AGAIN.
  10. Well, there is certainly a lot of truth to this comment, but I must say... most of even the moderate conservatives I know tend to quietly snicker in support of most the stuff leaving Beck or Limbaugh's mouths. They just don't tend to voice their support openly. So, I agree that a good deal of conservatives are tired of losing the battle due to these few loud voices, but I think it relates more to their frustrations with how these gas bags are being perceived among the populace... not so much that they really disagree with much of what they say.
  11. Agreed. The question could be more precise, something like: "Does all life as we see it, come from some single cell type?"
  12. My previous posts have all been counter arguments which you've ignored. I have no interest in repeating myself.
  13. As was pointed out to you in your other thread which was recently closed, that's because his ideas are garbage. http://debunkingprimaltherapy.com/ This is a website designed to give a detailed and well researched criticism and evaluation of primal therapy. It is a critique on the treatment and theory which was first developed and popularized by Arthur Janov (Ph.D.). Also, here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8839319 A random sample of 300 psychologists listed in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology were surveyed about the soundness of forms of mental health treatment and use of these treatments in practice. The 139 psychologists responding expressed greatest confidence in cognitive-behavioral therapy and antipsychotic medications. Approaches most in question as to soundness were primal therapy, neurolinguistic programming, bioenergetics, and aversive therapy.Factor analysis indicated widespread endorsement and use of multiple techniques within two broad camps of research-based "hard-edged" versus clinical wisdom/philosophy-based "soft-edged."
  14. You assume that I know very little about personality typing and facial-cranial morphology. That would be a flawed assumption.
  15. The confirmation bias is something to which you seem particularly prone.
  16. It's a domesticated feline. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat#Nomenclature_and_Etymology The term puss (as in pu$$ycat) may come from Dutch poes or from Low German Puuskatte, dialectal Swedish kattepus, or Norwegian pus, pusekatt, all of which primarily denote a woman and, by extension, a female cat.
  17. It is sad. Perhaps one of the worst parts is that my disgust with this type of stuff only further polarizes the issues. Because I can't stand what they are doing, I make myself part of the issue. I shared this post in another thread. It really should have been put into this one. Pangloss - If you happen to read this, maybe you can kill that other post since I'm repeating it here. Thanks, man. 18. Returning briefly to this idea of legitimization... 19. Actually, you're doing the exact opposite, and basing your entire worldview on a misconception... but, if that helps you sleep at night, then have fun. http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/comdesc/
  20. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miller%E2%80%93Urey_experiment http://www.physorg.com/news171263002.html What have you got? God did it? For someone who claims evidence is so important, you sure don't seem to be applying the same standard to your own ideas.

  22. Whoops.... Just shared that link in another thread. Seriously... what are going to do to stop this insanity?
