It’s surprised me how common and easy it is for folks to blame people not part of their ingroup. How easily they believe the too easy childish faux answers even when they lack any connection to accuracy. It’s also surprised me how existing powers and entrenched interests have managed to maintain their power and prevent the sorts of change we need to address the things which are scaring us all. There are many such examples, but for me mainly that’s climate change. It’s existential, yet here we are 30-50 years later still arguing with idiots about whether it even exists and with no coherent strategies to address it as a species at the scale we need. Migration will increase as droughts and floods keep intensifying, and the anti migrant sentiment that comes with those changes worries me. Hate is too easy and people seem to like easy, a situation made worse given how easy we are to control when we’re angry.

Vance appeals to all 3 of those states in very big ways given his background being extremely poor and understanding how meth and fentanyl and outsourcing of manufacturing jobs have crippled those regions. He speaks eloquently, lies calmly, debates strongly, he is well connected and has his finger on what's happening with rich powerful tech-bros, and regularly manages to put a pretty red bow around the bloody red meat Trump so often sells to amp up supporters of the worst parts of our humanity. Vance's appeal in these three critical electoral college states is only further amplified given that he's currently the sitting Senator for one of them, a Senator who's repeatedly won elections there. And even if they lose, he's now positioned as the heir apparent for MAGA for the next 4 decades. US presidential elections aren't about who's most popular or unpopular across the country. They're about who wins an extra coupla hundred votes in 6 or 7 counties in industrial mid-west states.

Are you suggesting this is isolated to the DNC, and not the way all political organizations exercise power? Are you suggesting the DNC is worse than others? Just a few weeks ago, Larry Hogan merely suggested we ought to support the law and decisions from citizen juries and was pilloried by the RNC who pulled all funding and amplified attacks by rabid Trump supporters, for example. Without much effort, I could easily find similar responses from the right demanding full fealty and 100% loyalty not just that week or month, but that day. You might consider unnarrowing your view a bit. Or, do you perhaps believe Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney are being supported for speaking authentically? No. And it’s stupid politics, too. This is a time when he needs to bring people over to his side, especially those with influence snd power. It also suggests that he’s being too isolated and not getting the full truth from his inner circle. Everyone is concerned about his age and have been for years, not just “elites.”
