  1. I tried looking up the world record and couldn't find it, but every reference I saw for lemon-eating contests were for a certain number of lemons in the shortest time (usually three lemons). Best play it safe.
  2. How is it NOT honoring the bet if he takes precautions to minimize his discomfort? As long as he actually eats the lemons what difference does it make what he does to prepare for it?
  3. Think about it, though. Floating would be boring since it's so passive, and you'd need to push off stable objects to get any movement. Sounds like an indoor idea. Wouldn't it be cooler to simply be lighter as opposed to your muscle mass so you could be outside and jump twenty feet or higher and float back to the ground? Then your suit wouldn't need to be as big (but probably still too big to be practical). You'd need six standard commercial helium tanks (the kind you see in stores that sell balloons, approx 230 cubic feet of helium, about US$90 each) to give you enough lift to take ninety pounds of weight off you. That's one big, expensive mylar suit.
  4. There was a recent (2004?) pension overhaul bill passed that allowed for some restructuring because the 30-year Treasury bond rates were inadequate for pension purposes. I thought everyone from corporations to unions to House and Senate including Reps and Dems were behind that one. Just because it allows corporations to dissolve pension plans doesn't mean they won't put something more effective into place. Dissolving the old in favor of the new shows the system is working and adapting, and doesn't guarantee the workers will be "cheated".
  5. OK, lotta perverts. We'll get this looked at. In the meantime, you might want to prune back some of those PM gems and get rid of anything with which you can bear to part.
  6. Mine is unchanged but I'm in a different usergroup. Is anyone else having this problem? I sent a PM to the Admins asking for clarification. It may be a decision based on necessity so be prepared to live with it. Ecoli, it could also be because you are sending out too many rude or suggestive PMs. The image attachments of you in the buff are nice but completely unneccesary and may have violated forum policy or exceeded your allotted bandwidth.
  7. I have to say also that I applaud IMM's patience when it comes to the OP's fervor in launching a diatribe while at the same time being unwilling to take the time to respond to dissenting views. Mike T feels it's worth our time to listen to him, but not worth his time to respond. I really appreciate a young person's ideological drive to see perceived injustice corrected and the world made a better place. It should never be snuffed out but it needs tempering through debate and experience to show them that everything is not just black or white. Focussing on specifics is the key to changing a system, not attacking the system as a whole. Some things are working quite well and we don't want to throw out the baby with the bathwater.
  8. News to me. Did it automatically delete anything past 25 or do you have more than 25 now? Nothing has been discussed about it in the Mod forum. Admins would be the only ones who could change it and I doubt they would do so without warning unless something dire was happening.
  9. Short replies: Cyclical, as always. Most corporations = not bankrupt. Are closed borders your answer? Bush = Master of the Weather? No, they can't. All the citizens? Not me. My advice = stay away from cults. You are extremely easily brainwashed.
  10. I've always heard that bird song is mainly for establishing territory, which birds need to do for a variety of reasons. Proclaiming sex and availability, scaring off enemies, maintaining bonds with their mates and offspring, that sort of thing. The regular patterns, especially in the morning, are probably a warning to others that "this nest is mine, approach at your peril". Maybe there's no need in bad weather because no birds encroach when the winds are high or it's raining.
  11. The home page is not so much for new members as it is for attracting new members. In marketing, you try to show your best face, not your crazy face (j/k). We want serious members who don't mind showing us their "wild side", not members with "wild side" zip codes who only vacation in seriousness.
  12. Sorry you can't be bothered. My reply to to you would tax your attention span so I'll just say I disagree completely.
  13. I think patriotism is just the name you give to the support of an ideal on a national level. I don't think obedience is as much a part of it as is shared goals. Patriots follow leaders who share the national ideal, or that "for which we stand". Smaller groups adhere to the will of the group and call it religion or civic-mindedness or even team spirit. The smallest groups call such adherence "marriage" and look for one other person who shares enough ideals to make them a viable partner in living arrangements and raising children. Who I like doesn't play as much a part in patriotism either. I may not care for someone personally but will follow their lead when they show me they share the same ideals I do.
  14. If everyone is employed, who will work the new jobs that come along? You will need to invent more people. Nice for the GWs. Now you are inventing more money. Billionaires multiplying by the hundreds? Misleading Vividness or do you have some studies to back this up? Where exactly is this money stagnating? In banks? Banks lend their money, it doesn't stagnate. And you really believe the workers could organize everything on thier own? And they would get the machines and equipment from where? It's not so cut and dried, Mike T. And part of licensing is regulation. Do you want the regulatory controls to go away, too? Controlling greed is like stifling creativity. Part of the pioneer spirit is wrapped up in acquisition and greed. I'm resoundingly confident that IMM is much more aware than you're giving her credit for. Economic investments are her business. There is no one reason we are at war. There never is. I know you'd like the reasons and the solutions to be simple but they're not. Tamper with one part of a functional system and you'd better be prepared for that system to break down. That's not to say that you can't work towards admirable goals, but too much change too quickly is not good for anybody if we're not prepared to accept the repercussions.
  15. This is not make-work nor is it superfluous to their economy. Keeping things looking clean and shiny shows you care and reduces crime while keeping quality of life high. This is part of the Broken Window Theory which many cities in the US have adopted in order to clean up many urban problems. The Japanese culture seems to be rooted in this concept. I saw a cable show about the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. They have staff who do nothing but wipe fingerprints off the plate glass doors that ring the entire hotel. It's a full-time position and by the time they make the complete circuit around the building it's time to start back at the beginning. It's important for the hotel owners that your first glimpse of the inside of the hotel as you enter throught the doors be unmarred by anything unsightly. This impression is important enough to keep several people employed to maintain it, and that's really what employment is all about anyway. If there's a need that requires a person to fulfill it you hire someone who is willing to work for what you offer.
  16. I think some people are told from birth how utterly depraved and filthy and sinful and wrong they are just for being human and the only way they can have a shred of dignity is by listening to those who know better and following their rules. Some people make it all about sin instead of all about love.
  17. It's a shame that the same people who feel abstinence is the answer also frown on any form of sex other than intercourse. They also object to the gay lifestyle but frown twice as much when gays want to marry. How... retentive. I agree with NeonBlack. Why nine weeks of "wait till marriage"? Can you really do that without bringing religion into it?
  18. Frustratingly' date=' every time I manage to superposition I collapse into a single location when someone notices.[/quote']Maybe she wants to "go out" to a Nigerian hotel so the two of you can "stay in for a quiet evening". This would reduce the likelihood of collapsing her wave function.
  19. You should contact her via yahoo chat and tell her you wired US$5000 to US Consul General Brian Browne in Lagos. All she has to do is go over to the American embassy or call Brian at (234)-1-2610195 and all her troubles will be over. She must be a model. She sure doesn't write like a nerd.
  20. Well, I found some CAD files at Boeing but they are just fuselage plans for airport gate planning purposes, not much technical data there. They're also in .dwg format so you'll have to have AutoCAD or VoloView to view them. AutoDesk may have some other free reader since I don't think you can get VoloView for free any more. Absolutely. And versatility is king in today's job market unless you're the best in a specific field. That's because draftsmen may lend a certain intuitive quality to a CAD drawing but it takes an engineer or an architect to really design something well in CAD. And they are the ones licensed to stamp the drawing officially.
  21. A choice between someone who thinks primarily about their looks and someone who looks primarily to think is no choice at all.
  22. If you calculate it on your PDA, you might get (wait for it...) BlackBerry Pi.
