  1. eriberri; In giving this thread a little bump, I might suggest you PM "DrmDoc" this forum, directly and feel he could give you a little insight, he is in two of the fields your describing. My first thought was the tail end of some dream, carrying over to conscience and may still hold true. The black and white color pattern would suggest an eye problem, but you have had this checked out. Grats on beating the Drug and Drinking problem, but sometimes the problems that combination brings on, can take awhile to resolve. Good Luck....
  2. Not really, but he is still in Colorado, has a 15K Bond set (don't know if paid), however under Colorado Law, "Distribution of Obscene Material". http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/12/21/1983678/author-of-pedophilia-guide-in.html As explained a couple post back, being a pedophile, tendency toward being sexually attracted to children (most States, under 12-14yo), is not illegal and only actions on those feelings are....Obscenity, the distribution of is another issue and lately been used to void the 1st Amendment.
  3. raeleen; I had noticed your thread when first offered, basically agreeing WL may be one of the most important web sites ever offered. I would disagree somewhat on the powerful angle in that many sites may have influenced society in much greater ways. Back to WL and it's influence, to me it's simply the advancement of media in general. Something that was inevitable and another means for people to vent their grievance for perceived injustices over an International media/format, taking the place of the "Letter To The Editor", so to speak type. Also I believe WK or something like it is here to stay, no less than Amazon was the forerunner for major on line retailers. I see no reason, pending problem outcomes, this site can't develop into a viable media source, possibly even someday going public. On Computer Science versus say Political Science, IMO there is a place for both. What drives the Political Science, my favorite area, are the reasons and mechanisms that created the different ideologies of world political systems. You should admit there has been a great deal of science involved in the advancement of the Computer since the day's of IBM's first offerings in the 1950's. If so those that developed the various systems, had a great deal of understanding in more than one of the sciences. Then nano-technology (purely a science) another of my interest has made remarkable advances in making room size models into some very small boxes and even transistors over tubes another science advancement has helped. If interested in anything offered under politics on WL, I'd suggest a PM to CR (since he has responded to your thread) and he might grant you permission to post in Politics. You certainly don't appear to be a spammer, troller or whatever this Forum fears and it would NOT be the first time, new posters have been granted access. Anyway from this occasional poster, welcome to the forum.
  4. The US was set up by people believing STRONGLY in the sovereignty of the individual States, each having their own way of life, economic/domestic policy and set of laws. In order to come up with an agreeable "Central Government", which all 13 States would relinquish SOME their individual rights, in the interest of the total, they first agreed to the "Articles of the Confederacy" in 1777, one year after Declaring Independence and while the "War for Independence" was being fought sending it to the States for Ratification which under that agreement meant by ALL 13 States.
  5. It's been my understanding they have had any bail money needed all along well above the request 317K US$, however the Swedish Authorities have appealed the release, which could take up to another 48 hours, to settle. What still puzzles me is that if they now have the Swiss charges and they are as has been suggested (surprise sex), under British law extradition is NOT required, in the first place, if NOT illegal in the UK. Think your article covered this..
  6. swansont; It's not specifically any one item that might increase cost per employee, rather the total of items if the BTC's are not extended AND the potential effects of other legislation still not resolved. Even then there are countless business/INVESTORS concerned with where the Federal Government might be headed 2-5-10 years down the road, via regulation or actual involvement in the private sector. I could go on into the general economic environment in the US or most of Europe where economies in general are on threatened with inflation and instability of their Governments. Thread; "Compromise on the BTC's - Is Obama moving back to the middle" First; Obama IMO is campaigning for the 2012 election and has never, not been. I believe HE thinks, it's possible to be re-elected, with another Democratically Controlled Congress, then completing his "Social Justice Agenda". Frankly, the little bitty strangest in me, tells me he might well accomplish his re-election, but not with the Congressional majorities he has enjoyed, one in three shot. Yes that's low. Second; Since, there are some and enough to stop any action this session (Senate), that believe a "Lame Duck Congress" is no time to legislate major policy, I don't think the "2011 Tax Increases", will be decided other than as Obama presented them. The 55B$ ADD ON's, SO FAR pretty well kills any chance of passing. By the way, does anybody know if the 2% decrease, for one year on incomes to 105K$, includes the employers contribution, which I understand is to equal the employees contribution or the millions of self employed will also get a 4% reduction? Third; The excuse being used by Congress is basically over the Estate Taxes "Death Taxes, swansont" which directly hits on every member of Congress (constituents), small business and perceived fairness exist in all economic areas. While 35% on Estates over 5M$, seems fair to some, I don't think many people understand how that 5M$ estate value is achieved and this will involve the exact same people the old system had. The truly rich folks have hundreds of ways to escape the paying this tax, via any number of the various trust funds or simply move outside the US. hurt are the small business people, the farmers, mom and pops, that have no idea what have. Forth; The US is facing a terrible 2011 Deficit IMO and unavoidable whatever actions Republican's claim they can take to prevent. First there is no indication they will even try, second we have no 2011 Budget to make estimates from and most important the House Committee Chairmanships are ALL from the old guard and the House starts any spending (budget) legislation. Fifth and no body seems to address this issue; Many States are in very bad shape and will NEVER improve, California has a shot, but NY, IL, MIch, NJ, Mass and other States have little change of gaining new business or maintaining a tax payer base for many reasons, taxes, obligations and an ageing population the most dominating. Even if they all started to barrow (changed mandatory limitation of a balanced budget) to maintain those obligation, as California learned last week, NO ONE will buy their bonds. The Federal IMO will undoubtedly try to bail out a couple for awhile, but as the ageing infrastructure declines and those obligation increase and the Federal own problems increase (regardless who is in charge) a point of no return will....another thread. Summery; While I have to now favor continuation of the BTC, it should have been addressed 1/21/2010 or before (business/consumer confidence), while the economy was showing signs of improvement, it will cost about another trillion over a TWO YEAR PERIOD, taking the GROSS US National Debt over 100% GDP (my guess in this FY, 2011).
  7. Oh my, 78 and still golfing, I have a hard time getting up enough energy to go to a store. With your interest in learning new things (attitude), you should be OK to 100.... Well, the Reverend Sharpton does have a National "Radio Show", on 19 Stations (Limbaugh over 600)and has had his problems voicing opinions. While I don't listen to his show, it remains his right...what's the saying "like the pot calling the kettle black"....(as in hypocrisy for the PC crowd). http://radiotime.com/program/p_61441/The_Al_Sharpton_Show.aspx Yeah, I've noted a bit of FDR progressivism in some of your comments, often seen in folks living through the depression era, wondering why you don't jump into more of the issues in the 'Politics' sub-forum. Many show the same signs, but not likely based on FDR, rather simply being a modern day centrist. Most consider me that hard line "right winger", however I prefer saying a "Constitutional Conservative".
  8. rigney; O'Rielly has a nightly pole, where his audience votes for "pinhead or patriot". I've seen some one sided results before, but last nights pole was Sharpton's comments on Rush Limbaugh, with over 10,000 responding and NOT ONE patriot vote. Can you still see out your windows or has this global warming snow fall not reached the second floor...anyway keep warm and don't mess with a snow shovel...By the way. I seem to recall your birthday is in December, whether early or late, I hope you have a 76th Happy Birthday.
  9. rigney; Sharpton and many others have been trying to re-enact the "fairness Doctrine" since Reagan got it dropped. With all the media not currently covered under FCC authority, it's just not going to happen. However there is talk of adding authority to the FCC for Internet Activity, which is a concern.
  10. CR; Glenn Beck does NOT openly support Assange's Wikileaks releases*, only indicating somethings wrong (not right) with the legal scenario, I described in my last post (which came from him), this thread. Judge Napolitano on the other hand is an ardent supporter of Assanges/Wikileaks rights, to publish anything he has legally received, properly done and believes that has been done. * He should be as he also has a Web site, encouraging "whistle blower" evolvement and has made great use of material sent him, on his nightly show.
  11. The last I heard Assange attorney had not seen the Swedish extradition order, however he will be a guest on the Judge Napolitano Show (Freedom Watch Show), 8PM ET, Fox Business Channel, tonight. If there is anything relevant, I'll try and drop a post. Anyway here is another angle, the case may be taking.;
  12. Assange's attorney has said, the British Police have known where he was all along has asked for a meeting and will fight any effort for extradition to Sweden. The said court appearance for Tuesday is to post bail (hopefully I suppose). I'd suggest they are not concerned with the "Rape" charge, rather with possible extradition to the US. Pangloss, Assange has been in trouble before and for hacking himself, in addition to some domestic problems;
