  1. And what does that have to do with their ideas being correct or scientific? Just because something is probablistic doesn't mean that it isn't determinate. It's uncertain, not completely random. Nature is a wonderous thing, learning the workings of it just makes it that much more amazing. That math makes you see more, not less.
  2. They can represent a few different things, but most basically 0 = off 1 = on. The off/on sequences can mean different things depending on the size, pattern, timing, etc. Thought experiments may be nice at first, but that is not a theory (a lot of the time it's not even a hypothesis). To have an actual physics framework one must make precise, accurate, testable predictions, and that takes math. Without that all one is doing is armchair science, and that is no better than any other new age guru you see selling books.
  3. You state they have a different purpose without even the slightest evidence backing your first statement. Hell, if the hip supports the penis, why do so many mammals have penis bones? The only slight argument you could make for pelvis supporting any sort of intromittent organ is the shark's claspers, but even that is a stretch because its role is to support the pelvic fins that just happen to have that modification. You can only interpret if you understand the information. You don't even seem to have knowledge of the information you are attempting to interpret. Well, you will have to wait until the end of all life, because that's when evolution will not be true.
  4. A quick google search will tell you it's exactly what you don't think it is: the available body of facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid. You mean like making prediction? From http://www.talkorigins.org/indexcc/CA/CA210.html And that's just me being too lazy to think of the multitude of other predictions evolutionary theory has correctly made. No, no brainwashing needed. Look at the evidence and it supports the idea. No brainwashing necessary. Hip bones aren't necessary to hold sexual organs in place. They are supported by mesentery in the body cavity that extends much further anteriorly than the hip bones extend. These two statements taken together are the most ridiculous thing I have seen in a while. Of course dolphins have hip bones (and axis and atlas cervical vertebra) because they evolved from terrestrial mammals. So all these statements show is that you are making a woefully ignorant argument. How did you think that this would support an argument against evolution?
  5. What, exactly, have I been up to. I posted multiple studies on GMOs to show they have been, and currently are, doing a good deal of research on the matter. I have stated that many products have not been studied to the degree in which you say GMOs must be studied before they can be declared safe. Neither of those is dishonest in any way that I can see. So please tell me in what way either of those isn't 'reality based'. In reality, there have been many studies looking at different effects of GMOs and virtually all of them have showed that they are safe for human consumption on average.
  6. But in reality there is no food chain. It's more of a crazy web. The chain is tropic levels as Charony has said. It doesn't matter what is eating what, the energy gained from consuming something is less than the total energy of whatever was consumed. So there is a net energy loss.
  7. The son of Apollo? It depends on what species you're looking at, and what you mean by exposed gills. There's a difference between exposed gills that don't have an operculum and external gills. Flattened body can be used for a variety of different things, from streamlining to increasing surface area exposed to the sun. Clawed feet can be helpful in streams and tides if the floor of the waterbed are solid enough, but they definitely help on land. I'll assume you mean external gills. These are pretty helpful because O2 can be readily gained in a passive manner.
  8. I kick things (I teach Muay Thai so it's not a strange as it may sound).
  9. In common language I agree completely. But in reference to character states primitive just means less derived from an ancestral state.
  10. So can you show me the studies for, say, nutritional or dietary supplements? Or how about pre-test on new types of fertilizers, or the different genes in the different animals we eat, etc. So besides special pleading you add an argument from ignorance/non-sequitor? They are unknown, therefore they are dangerous? I don't see the logic. Not to say there shouldn't be more testing, there should always be more testing. But assuming danger when it has yet to be significantly shown by multiple studies doesn't make sense. Show me these studies then. No, many things on the label are under 'trade names' so you don't really know what they are and many times, take the recent supplement study, things are in there that are not on the label.
  11. True amphibians didn't evolve until the carboniferous period, if you don't count labirynthodonts as true amphibians. Ichthyostega evolved in swamps which are freshwater, since they seem to represent the closest common relative between fishes and amphibians it can be assumed that amphibians probably developed in freshwater. the sarcopterygii that navigated the sea bottom with their fins were not amphibious. I don't know what 'authority' told you these were amphibians.
  12. You realize this is special pleading right? Have all the ingredients in your food been tested to this degree? How about nutritional supplements? Does your distaste for those follow the same reasoning?
  13. Have you honestly went through the research? This paper that was on the list studied long term exposure of the exact type of modification you say doesn't have long term studies: Kılıç A,Akay MT 2008 A three generation study with genetically modified Bt corn in rats: Biochemical and histopathological investigation Food and Chemical Toxicology They only found minor differences in two organs, and considering the amount of things tested it's not surprising that some differences would be shown by chance alone. And Trabalza-Marinucci M,Brandi G,Rondini C,Avellini L,Giammarini C,Costarelli S,Acuti G,Orlandi C,Filippini G,Chiaradia E,Malatesta M,Crotti S,Antonini C,Amagliani G,Manuali E,Mastrogiacomo AR,Moscati L,Naceur Haouet M,Gaiti A,Magnani M 2008 A three-year longitudinal study on the effects of a diet containing genetically modified Bt176 maize on the health status and performance of sheep Livestock Science Haryu Y,Taguchi Y,Itakura E,Mikami O,Miura K,Saeki T,Nakajima Y 2009 Longterm Biosafety Assessment of A Genetically Modified (GM) Plant: The Genetically Modified (GM) Insect-Resistant Bt11 Corn Does Not Affect the Performance of Multi-Generations or Life Span of Mice The Open Plant Science Journal Buzoianu SG,Walsh MC,Rea MC,Cassidy JP,Ross RP,Gardiner GE,Lawlor PG 2012 Effect of feeding genetically modified Bt MON810 maize to ∼40-day-old pigs for 110 days on growth and health indicators Animal: An International Journal of Animal Bioscience Buzoianu SG,Walsh MC,Rea MC,O'Sullivan O,Crispie F,Cotter PD,Ross RP,Gardiner GE,Lawlor PG 2012 The effect of feeding Bt MON810 maize to pigs for 110 days on intestinal microbiota PLoS ONE Etc
  14. It appears I have, quite vastly.
  15. Nobody here said that specific sentence, but it is widely said and it was hinted at. You have specifically said that there hasn't been much study on the effects of ingestion of bt GMOs, but if you look at the list I gave there are ~20 studies that do just that. So 1/10 of the studies that only make up less than 1/8 of the studies I have a list of study what was claimed to have been understudied. [edit] There may be more in there, but I only did a quick search of the titles alone. If bt wasn't in the title it was excluded from the count.[/edit]
  16. It doesn't matter what you say to them, they will ignore it and repeat whatever claim you just falsified. But if you feel you will be involved in debates with them, familiarize yourself with common claims they make and why they are wrong. talkorigins.org is a good place to start your research.
  17. Saying there haven't been many studies done on GMOs is an outright falsehood. Here are around 200 different ones based on consumption alone. These were taken from a list of ~1700 studies on GMOs I found somewhere (I forget where) Andrew C 2002 Assuring the safety of genetically modified (GM) foods: the importance of an holistic, integrative approach Journal of Biotechnology Bucchini L,Goldman LR 2002 Starlink corn: a risk analysis Environmental Health Perspectives Chambers PA,Duggan PS,Heritage J,Forbes JM 2002 The fate of antibiotic resistance marker genes in transgenic plant feed material fed to chickens Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy Chassy BM 2002 Food Safety Evaluation of Crops Produced through Biotechnology Journal of the American College of Nutrition Cromwell GL,Lindemann MD,Randolph JH,Parker GR,Coffey RD,Laurent KM,Armstrong CL,Mikel WB,Stanisiewski EP,Hartnell GF 2002 Soybean meal from roundup ready or conventional soybeans in diets for growing-finishing swine Journal of Animal Science Folmer JD,Grant RJ,Milton CT,Beck J 2002 Utilization of Bt corn residues by grazing beef steers and Bt corn silage and grain by growing beef cattle and lactating dairy cows Journal of Animal Science Harlander SK 2002 Safety Assessments and Public Concern for Genetically Modified Food Products: The American View Toxicologic Pathology Hefle SL,Taylor SL 2002 How much food is too much? 18. IIRC there are heavy metals in cells, but not enough for toxicity to be a problem.
  19. So your answer to evidence is statements with no backing and/or conspiracy?
  20. Another note. Unless you're malnourished taking excess vitamins or metabolites won't really do anything for you. All of the pathways have regulatory function and will produce the metabolites they need, or will degrade those they don't. So taking those supplements effectively amounts to spending money on excrement with no benefit, and that's ignoring the non-regulation those industries have. The only way to increase any skill is to work at it, you want to be more intelligent you need to study and work at whatever it is you want to learn. There isn't really any other way around it.
  21. http://www.psr.org/environment-and-health/confronting-toxics/heavy-metals/
  22. I think you're vastly underestimating all the things that go into living things, as well as misunderstanding how the development process works.
  23. If anyone is truly searching for the available information on GMOs then here is a paper that collects and gives an overview of the data. There is also an excel file that has all the studies listed, but I'm not allowed to upload an excel fine to the forum. http://informahealthcare.com/doi/abs/10.3109/07388551.2013.823595
  24. Well, since using the term electric tends to give false analogies such as the transistor one above I would hope one could see were saying electricity would become a problem. It's a useful analogy sometimes, but I think it brings more misunderstanding that understanding. Hence why I said it was just a pet peeve.
