  1. Haha. I'll give it a try!
  2. Utilize the free stuff. We regularly make our own syrup by tapping a silver maple and black walnut tree in our yard. Make jelly out of the wild grapes growing on the trees. When they do tree trimming or take down trees in the park we'll collect fire wood to heat our house. Pick pawpaws (and put them in a basket). Collect wild mushrooms. Collect black walnuts and hickory nuts. For a relatively small investment we have fruit trees, strawberries, chickens and vegetables that more than pay for themselves. We also can foods and haven't had to buy, for example, tomato products for years. On the other hand asparagus and honey have each cost us about $50 per pound and hours of work. 🤪
  3. And this is the point I made earlier. There is no 'point' in living. We are just one of the many possible configurations of matter in this universe.
  4. I'm doubtful that anyone who ever lived has achieved that goal.
  5. Where I was playing they had all three. I know it sounds 'woke' to some, but there is a real effort in special needs areas to stop defining people by their disabilities or certain aspects like being non-binary. For example, to stop saying a Down Syndrome kid and just say he is a kid who happens to have Down Syndrome. I agree the term 'trans kids' is a problem as that then makes being trans such an outsized part of who they are, instead of them being kids who like sports, school, riding bikes, whatever. When people are labeled there is a tendency to forget all the other things about that person. I agree with @StringJunky though that this will for the most part go away after a while. Just like being gay, in a mixed marriages, an atheist, an unwed mother, and all the other things that are no longer an issue for most people.
  6. Definitely not. Generally speaking everyone should have a chance to play somewhere, and most women can't compete with men at the more competitive level of sports that emphasize size/strength/speed.
  7. https://www.tibettravel.org/tibetan-local-customs/tibetan-funeral.html#:~:text=Sky burial is simply the, with the dead in Tibet. Some people will have their remains converted into diamonds, or for the hunter in your family, you can have their ashes loaded into shotgun shells for a unique version of the 21 gun salute.
  8. I played in an open soccer league, both men and women. No limits to prevent injuries. Women just didn't play if they couldn't compete at that level. Just like men didn't play who couldn't compete at that level.
  9. That sounds sciencey...
  10. This one sounds different than the situations described by others, in that yours seems like it can be subject to scientific scrutiny. Would make for an interesting published scientific article if demonstrated by science to be true.
  11. And the person died soon after? Did you hear about the premonition before or after the fact? Has she ever claimed to have a premonition that did not occur soon after? Did any of your funny feelings turn out to be a premonition of something that happened soon after? When someone uses the term 'funny feeling' they generally mean funny 'strange', not funny 'haha'.
  12. In theory or in practice? If in practice, what do you propose for a breakthrough given that no nuclear power (AFAIK) seems willing to give up their nuclear weapons? Or even willing to talk about giving up their nuclear weapons.
  13. Having a funny feeling is 'so unpleasant'? I'm a bit amazed that you've never had a 'funny feeling'. I recently had a funny feeling when my wife was on the road during rush hour, and I heard on the radio there had been a fatal accident. Felt strange enough that I called her. Fortunately for us it was one of the other half million cars on the road that was in an accident.
  14. Excellent point. I never really see anything about Norway. Then my son goes on a trip to Norway and I hear all about his trip. Suddenly Norway is showing up everywhere! In the news, a brand of candy, the author of an article I read. Of course I don't really believe that references to Norway are showing up simply because my son went there. Instead, I now notice references to Norway since it is now a point of interest with me. How many times does one get a funny feeling when someone doesn't die, but the funny feeling goes unnoticed. Then when there is a death following that funny feeling, we suddenly give it significance that we didn't give it earlier. It would be a simple test to determine the 'filament' issue. Next time at a friend's house, simply turn on and off all lights. If you are all soon sitting in the dark, you might be on to something.
  15. Unfortunately, while you may be able to find such an environment at the local level, at the global level there is never a time when there are no weapons around. Hence the reason nations tend not to disarm.
  16. While I think it is possible five would work (and this is a great idea btw), it also depends on whether or not five is enough to ensure a retaliatory strike, which is necessary if you want to keep the other guy from firing first. You don't really need a nuclear weapon to take out another nuclear weapon; conventional weapons will do. So if my capabilities are high, I might feel I can wipe out all five of your weapons at once without having to use any of mine, and if I get all five you are now at a severe disadvantage.
  17. You really need to read the posts you respond to.
  18. So to @geordief's point, why is so difficult to move at c wrt the neutrino? If a neutrino moves at 99.99999999 of c, are we unable to move in the opposite direction at 0.00000001 of c? Or no matter how fast we move, will it always appear to us in our frame, that we never manage a relative speed of c?
  19. Aren't we moving at near light speed if we choose the reference frame of a neutrino for instance?
  20. Gee, that was a well thought out and delivered rebuttal. Well done.
  21. I was looking for an example of "small nations... willingly being absorbed into bigger ones". Not an example of small nations remaining independent states while joining an organization that has both large and small members. Using your logic my wife and I have been absorbed by AARP.
  22. Interesting perspective given the largest war in Europe since WWII is raging as we speak. For example??? Many people in Chinatown in San Francisco consider themselves Chinese. I wonder when that part of San Francisco will "split back" to China, with the help of the Chinese military.
  23. Discussions don't work when one side has a chip on his shoulder and a snippy attitude (you) and the other side is interested in a reasonable discussion about the opposing view points (every one else). Either lighten up or accept this conversation is doomed.
  24. Some what? Three new questions is not an answer to my question. Agreed. If nukes exist there is a risk to the world they will be used. So from the perspective of the world, nukes are a bad idea. But from the perspective of the small country, nukes are often judged to be well worth it. Unfortunately, Israel is primarily looking out for Israeli citizens, not world citizens.
  25. Yes. Thus the reason I asked. But I'm not talking about equals. I'm talking about asymmetric situations. Would Russia have been so willing to launch a full scale invasion of Ukraine if Ukraine had nuclear weapons? That's not the way I read it. In a Mexican standoff the best chance of survival is to maintain the status quo. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_standoff#:~:text=A Mexican standoff is a,situation without suffering a loss.
