  1. Can you please define what you mean by anti-science? Maybe some examples? In my experience, religious people are not what I would call anti-science. They are not against it. They still get their kids vaccinated, fly in planes, and want people to do research. On the other hand, the religious people don't always believe what they are told about science, but to me that seems a more neutral position. The reason for their stance seems quite simple. They are told conflicting things and must make a choice, not really being in a position to verify either for themselves.
  2. Well, there are of course many more claims made about gods, but that doesn't make my statement any less true. Yes, science does have something to say about that. Science can explain the universe without god, but it cannot disprove god.
  3. Science has something to say about how the universe evolved, not about how it came to be.
  4. Q. What is the square root of 69? A. Eight something.

  7. That is funny you say that. On occassion some phrase or sentence in the book reminds me of something I've heard him say before and it is like I hear that small part being narrated by him. His books are such a pleasant, comfortable read, just like his narrations.
  8. "The Path Between the Seas: The Creation of the Panama Canal" David McCullough An excellent telling of what was behind the effort to build the canal, and an interesting view of how science slowly began to accept that malaria and Yellow Fever did not come from swamp fumes and low moral standards.
  9. From what I've been able to find, there is no on/off switch for the transponder, but the electronics system is accessible from the cockpit. If you know what you are doing, you can pull the fuse to shut off the transponder. I also read that the acars system is available by subscription through Boeing and that the subscription may not have been active. If the subscription is not active, the system continues to ping satellites.
  10. A People's History of the United States - Howard Zinn Seems to be the version of United States history that is not taught to grade school children since it doesn't cast us in the best light.
  11. My in-laws have a cabin on a river way out in the country. It has running water, electricity, a bathroom, and is furnished with all of the junk no one would want to have in their own homes. Basically it is one step above sleeping in a tent. The cabin was broken into several times a year, requiring repairs of broken windows and the like each time. I wondered how he could possibly stop that from happening. His solution was to keep the doors unlocked and put up a sign that read "Unlocked. Please close door on your way out." People still enter periodically, but since there is nothing worth stealing, the only change for my father-in-law was that he no longer had to replace broken windows.

  13. Proving that Claire McCaskill, Todd Akin's Democratic opponent, is no dummy, her campaign spent roughly $2 million to help Akin win the Republican nomination. http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/08/19/candidates-comments-on-rape-draw-criticism/

  18. Har! You are too funny. But your taste isn't too weak. I gave you the +1 for Alizee! Joatmon -- What in the heck do you keep doing to the URLs????? Probably that nasty Google stuff.
  19. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaSKICzeTaE For the above: I did an 'Add Reply'. I am using Internet Explorer 7. I opened YouTube in another window by clicking on your link. Double clicked on the URL to highlight it. Right clicked to bring up menu and chose copy. Came to this window, right clicked and did a paste. For the below: I highlighted the link from your post, copied it, and pasted it here. They appear to be the same link although your link has the shortened version (with the '...'). Maybe it is related to that. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=ZaSKICzeTaE EDIT: Yep, that is the problem although I don't know why your URL is one way and mine is another. I went back in and changed your URL from 'c...h' to the actual characters which were 'com/watch' and it worked fine.
  20. Yes, the URL is what appears in the address bar. I click on the 'reply' button within someone's post to have their post appear within my post. (like I did here) I click on the 'Add Reply' to make a post with only my comments in it. (like I did in my previous post above) If you want to reply to multiple posts within a thread, click on 'MultiQuote' in each post you want to respond to, then click on 'Add Reply'. If you press 'edit', the change will always apply to that post you are editing. The 'edit' option on your post stays there for a limited time. If you do separate replies multiple times in a row, they are automatically merged into one post, unless someone else replies while you are replying. Essentially the system keeps all of the replies in the order they were entered. Also, ydoaPs has a good thread Pinned under "The Lounge" which gives some more information.
