  1. Another simple one: Compost Anything that cannot be recycled, or if you can't think of a way to reuse it, can probably decompose. Place extra food, dirty knapkins, etc. in a pile with some dirt in it. Wait a few months, and you'll have some good-quality soil for your community garden.
  2. I have made this thread for two reasons; it will help me on a homework assignment, and more importantly to get you to help the environment more. In this thread all you have to do is list ways to easily help the environment. I'll start: 1.) Recycle- By recycling, factories will use only 30% of the energy needed to make new goods from scratch. 2.) Use your car less- Try walking or riding a bike to get to places with short distances. It will not only help the environment by burning less fossil fuels, but will save you money on gas and give you some exercise. 3.) Start a community garden- Get your friends and family involved in a community garden. It will save you money on your fruits and veggies while helping the environment at the same time by using less fuel to transport the fruits and vegitables long distances. Please add to this list. Thanks.
  3. I laughed First time today! (I usually laugh a lot more)
  4. I know that my family originated in Ireland (it has a family shield and everything). Later on, they immigrated to the New World and established Fort Kilgore in Virginia. That's all I know...
  5. This post is dedicated to insane_alien. I'm not sure why, but I just enjoy reading his posts.
  6. But you can't improve something that's already the best it can be.
  7. This post is dedicated to Martin for always being kind and courteous.
  8. Okay, so we have a thread to make yourself feel better than everyone else, so why not have a thread to make other users here at SFN feel better about themselves. This thread is also a way to say thank you to a member that did something for you, was kind to you, etc., in a different way. So here's what you do, make a post in this thread, and dedicate it to an SFN user. Make sure you say why you dedicated it to them also.
  9. Maybe someone should make a poll in GD or in the Suggestion/Comments Forum for this. If over 75% of the votes are to change the current way, then Dave can change it.
  10. I follow this subject closely, but you still cannot call me an expert or anything like that. Anyway, there are very few global warming skeptics out there who, I believe, actually view the evidence. Please view this thread for more information.
  11. Okay, so I just returned from Everglades National Park, and I noticed something that Charles Darwin noticed when he went to the Galopogas Islands: the animals fit their environment almost perfectly. The everglades is one of the only sub-tropical places on Earth, and so plants and animals from temperate climates and tropical climates clash together. For this to happen, temperate animals must adjust to the dry and wet seasons. What I noticed is that some frogs that I can easily find near my house in Michigan (the same species) that can only go weeks without water near my home can go months without water in the Everglades. I think this alone proves that animals can change to fit their environment. Any comments?
  12. dues ex machina Hey mattbimbo, are you an Avatar: The Last Airbender fan?
  13. If Brazil didn't allow Amazon deforestation then just about everyone there will live in poverty. I'm not saying it's good to destroy forests, in fact I am so against it that I created a locally famous documentary against it, but the Brazilian government depends on it. Eco-tourism would be a great way to make money working with the rainforest, but it's a hard transition to make.
  14. I don't think that is the whole article in the link, so I'll be happy to scan the article for you and your dad to read when I get home (I'm on vacation).
  15. You don't need to have a large brain to be intelligent, it just needs to be wired correctly. I saw a video on Animal Planet's "Amazing Animal Videos" where a bird found a way to catch fish easier. It would wait for a human to come and feed the fish, then it would fly over to where the fish were and catch one. My point is that this bird has a very small brain, but can solve the problem of lack of food.
  16. I'm about half way done reading the Time Magazine article, and it says that global warming already has had many consequences. Tell your dad to look at all of the firestorms, droughts, and hurricanes/tropical cyclones we are having now compared to 30 years ago. Most scientists agree that it is happening, but no one knows when the worst of it will come. Global warming is a real threat.
  17. Your right, but they both have a common archosaurian anscestry.
  18. As The Peon stated, the OP wasn't very descriptive of what kind of intelligence the dinosaurs didn't evolove. So, as I stated, some dinosaurs did eventually evolved some sort of intelligence. I am going to edit my previous post to make it more descriptive of what I meant.
