  1. General comment: people should appreciate the friction of different viewpoints and not get upset when someone smites at their long-held convictions. This is an adversarial forum, just by the nature of its core purpose: promoting and discussing science. Does one learn anything meaningful and novel in echo chambers? Are we parrots?
  2. Then you aren't familiar with the Hafele-Keating experiment, which was the original, but it has since been refined with greater precision. If your 'logic' doesn't reflect nature, it doesn't have much practical application.
  3. If you don't prevent the new injuries, you are going up a down escalator.... moving stairs.
  4. The most insane thing I ever read was that you could get fentanyl on script. I remember reading about the potency when I first heard years ago, and thought it would only be used on terminal patients and hospital settings. It would be less risky to give them heroin, being 50 times safer in terms of potency.
  5. I was thinking the MD will want them tocome back. If the patient leaves empty-handed, they'll likely go out and shop for another more agreeable one. That's probably one of the major flaws in the P/Healthcare system. With it not being centeralized nationally, with no nationally-linked main patient database system to track individual treatment histories, your average opioid addict can go to the next one, or even go out of state. That's what it looks like to me.
  6. Because money is directly involved in the patient-doctor relationship, do you think it pushes the scale of the problem upwards? When medicine becomes self-funded, I think the dynamic changes between doctor and patient, and they possibly are more likely to succumb to the patient's wishes, rather than advise what's best for them. About 9 people died every hour last year from opioids (cdc).
  7. Why don't you just split into fifty countries?
  8. I just thought: I know more about your politicians than I do about ours! I notice he's shedding lawyers like dandruff. As long as it does happen.
  9. AP Today: Note the rof has been out of the car and there are barrels inside. https://apnews.com/article/ukraine-russia-war-kakhovka-dam-collapse-investigation-f5b76fe1ddbf98aa5ff7e4dfd3199c38
  10. The effect is global. I hope he gets his monogrammed Dior orange boiler suit and concrete bed and table before then. He deserves the Supermax prison schedule.
  11. I think FB is the original source where the main shit metastasized from.
  12. It's a new variable that is emerging.
  13. The introduction of AI into social media could make it worse or better. Once it knows the social media landscape, it can multi-task much better on obvious moderation issues.
  14. People tend to vote for who they think might help them in the next Legislative session. Thinking of the swingers here.
  15. I'd find a doctor and see what is causing it. Chronic reflux can corrupt the cells lining your oesophagus, damage your tooth enamel, amongst other things. Don't Band-Aid it with chalk. This is the downer about private medicine... is THAT worth spending on?
  16. He is Kim Jong Un material. We''ve a busy schedule: Putin, XI, Jong Un. I think we are in for a long period of instability.
  17. TRUMP FOR PRES! Seriously, this is not a likely outcome. If the US brings him in again, I can only conclude that the US has a bigger problem than Russia. Regime change will be necessary in both countries. Half-joking.
  18. Right. We can't create ideas in a vacuum. You have to tread the trodden path in order to extend what is already there and accepted by like-skilled people, who between them are the corpus of knowledge of that subject. Think of the big characters in science history. They are the pillars that people refer to , even though their work may have been superseded by newer research. Whatever ideas you come up with must concur with what still works elsewhere, otherwise you will have to form hypotheses to explain those as well, so that it conforms with yours.
  19. Minorities need representing by the same minorities in the positions of influence and leadership. Whites doing it for them won't cut it. All minority youth sees is charity when whites do it in the absence of minority leaders, They should be inspired by people with similar histories. On nit-picking: You have to deal with the weeds before you can plant the flowers. Do you paint around the picture frame, or do you lift it away and paint underneath?
  20. They created a product that they think fills a need; an antidote to the toxic partisanship. Should be a good indicator to each side how far apart they are. doesn't matter if they don't get the votes if it encourages more reaching over the aisle on both sides to avoid the bipartisans succeeding.
  21. i think they are amplifying on their base because they know they don't have winning numbers. By the end of the year, I think we'll be hearing about a more moderate Republican manifesto.... if they can neuter the Freedom Caucus types. I think DeSantis will have probably run out of steam by then.
  22. Where exactly have you promoted a better society. If you have nothing substantive to say, don't say it... But that's for you to express and not for us to assume. Would it be possible to avoid a Red Fest. As an avid reader of the Institute for the Study of War, it appears "conditions are being set for an attritional conflict..."
  23. 'A recent paper states the real pseudoscience is exactly those unperceivable things named with 'dark'. Throwing something into the unknown part of reality for solving the theoretical problem is not the real rigorous science. This study argues that It is time, from a much more general view, to consider the common defects in the principle behind all the previous measure methods or physical laws summarized by the predecessors rather than keep adding new theories or new phenomena for amending the old cracks. Otherwise, the development of science will become bogged down in mud and also lead all people not to the real nature of reality but to a totally strange magic one.' If I have seen further, it because I have stood on the shoulders of giants - Newton There is no creativity without prior knowledge. Learn it well.
  24. Whatever. You are, right now in chess terms throwing your hands through the pieces.
  25. The emphasis, to me, in the public sphere is material reparations are the remedy when the issues are of a more intangible systemic nature. E2A Material things are what everybody understands and can relate to intuitively.
