High IQ cannot achieve this on its own, but is a facet of developing strong cognitive abilities which definitely do help in formulating and achieving one's personal goals more easily. More important, though, is the manner in which you live your life. Behaving in such a way as to form and maintain positive connections with those around you, and so forth. Intelligence can help here too, but in general it is a different type of intelligence. Another crucial factor is developing the emotional strength to maintain a positive attitude and act in an authentic manner especially in times of adversity. Please read that last paragraph again, carefully this time, as I don't believe that IQ (however you define it) is the real issue emerging from your OP.

Life is a particularly efficient mechanism for converting high grade energy (eg. solar radiation) into waste heat (eg in extremis, CMBR). But what we do know is that if any ecosystem were able to 'terraform' say an entire galaxy to make it uniformly hospitable to the very narrow range of physical conditions necessary to support that ecosystem, harvesting and converting all asteroids and Kuyper belt type objects into purpose built space-ships, living spaces, factories etc., this would have very profound thermodynamic consequences due to the galactic scale reordering and reduction of diversity such a process would represent. The production and disposal of collosal amounts of kinetic energy, comparable with the energy equivalent of the masses involved as they are manoeuvred between different gravity wells has already been discussed. But that is really only the start. Such a grand scale reordering of orbitals, structures, and chemistry into an ever lower entropy state is going to produce a truly epic intensity of waste heat. Where is all that going to go? We're beginning to get our heads around the causes and effects of global warming. Now imagine galactic warming.
