  1. I was going to say religionforums.net However that seems to be taken-up by an inactive site.... Otherwise I'm all for theologyforums.net It's not perfect but I think it's the best solution you'll arrive at. Mirrors this site nicely. and even though it doesn't imply all aspects of religion and philosophy I'm sure no on the site will notice and they'll talk about it anyways
  2. This method most likely wont work for my purposes. The extract isn't being used for analysis but instead as a trigger for a biological reaction dependent on the presence of (a)certain metabolite(s). As I don't know the metabolite required, I'm attmepting an extraction that will yeild the widest array of chemical species possible. Thus I'm attmepting to find a more physical versus chemical process. 1. My proposal is to pulverise the cells in liquid N2 with sand as fine as possible. 2. dissolve in a small amount of water and pass through a low molecular weight membrane so as to eliminate all cellular debris, proteins, complexes etc... 3. processing of the remaining low molecular weight chemical species by a free drying process, into a powder for subsequent use. Basically I'm trying to generate an extract that will contain a metabolite capable of trigering a response in an experiment without knowing what this metabolite is in the first place. Thus I would like to maintain as many chemical species as possible.
  3. I'd say that you're correct. The thick part and curve at the bottom is probably part of the environment around the cell. Probably some water combined with various glycoproteins/ other cell matrix materials producing a kind of jelly effect. The object within is probably a White blood cells (a.k.a. leukocytes). Staining it would really help but it does look somewhat like one of these no? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leukocyte
  4. I've noticed the same thing with ammonium nitrate. Some fertilizer that we by contains the crystals. They are very soft and flexible. You may want to try completely drying them out. I doubt 100C in a oven for 30 mins will be anywhere enough to detonate them, but you might want to make sure. That should remove all the water. And I'm sure leave them really dry and hard. Plus you only need to dry a couple small ones to check anyways.
  5. Oh! Well nevermind then. I have somehow missed that till now
  6. Is there anyways a page with functionality like the home page could be added? I understand that it's confusing to new users if they are initially presented with the old home page that includes this summary of recent posts. However, I'm sure many of use found it very useful to track popular discussion. Could you not include something simular called a recent post page or something on those lines, and just not make it the default home page?
  7. While not wrong I'd also like to point out that Red may also be caused by other compounds. Anthocyanins are a very common red pigment. The health benefits are true! However, not only limited to Red colours. Virtually all brightly coloured fruits/vegetables contain pigments with these properties. The best idea is to eat a mix of as many different colours as possible. Reds Lycopene, anthocyanins... (peppers, tomatoes, beets, red apples...) Oranges/yellows carotenoids (carrots, mangoes...) Greens chlorophyll (spinach, green apples, kiwi, broccoli...) Blue/purple anthocyanins (BLUE BERRIES!!!, egg plant...) White anthoxanthins (Bananas, Coliflower, Mushrooms...) http://www.ext.nodak.edu/extpubs/yf/foods/fn595w.htm So for maximum benefit try to eat a rainbow of vegetables/fruits. Oh and on other note I'd like to point out that eating supplements that contain these chemicals doesn't seem to provide any benefit. For whatever reason only obtaining them in fruit/vegetable form has been proven to provide health benefits. Why this is so is debatable. It could be that we're totally missing the point and these colourful antioxidants don't provide any benefit and it's something else in the plants. Or maybe the plants contain other chemicals that help them act/absorbe.
  8. It doesn't have to involve the inner ear. It can often be the rest of conflicts between two different sence.
  9. Ha ha ha. So let me get this strait the US military is sell-out on it troops lives to please a weapons manufacturer!! "Umm sorry miss Jones your son died in combat today because we'd rather not upset our own plans to make money..." And what ever happened to support our troops??
  10. The earth slowly gains mass at this point. I believe mostly from interstellar winds, but also from asteriods and commets (luckily this has decrease in the earths present history). However at a period this gain was far more extreem. The original earth was believed to be less than 40% of its current mass and the rest formed from many collisions in a relatively short period. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_earth
  11. Why would they be angry if they did? I doubt they'd care
  12. I'm curious if anyone here has any experience in creating metabolite extracts, bacterial in my case but I think it wouldn't be too hard to modify other protocols maybe for mammals to suit my needs. I'm interested in getting the fullest spectrum of chemical species possible. I have a few places to start but I'm wondering maybe someone reading this has more experience and can possibly suggest a couple decent protocols.
  13. Actually the reporst seem to indicate that he wasn't really doing anything terribly risky when it happened. Seems he was just snorkelling in shallow water, and happened to pass over a stingray which stabbed him in the heart with its barb. It could have happened to almost anyone on vacation. A bit ironic in a way. I was sure he would have died doing some really stupid, this was just a fluke. But in a way it demonstrates the mans skill, to be taken down only by something that he couldn't have planned for! One in a million.
  14. Granted but you are now forever known for wishing for the nerdiest thing imaginable and never get laid from that point. I wish I had more wishes.
  15. I wish that people would stop screwing up this thread by not making a wish!!!
  16. GRATED! But the disruption in the local ecosystem causes its demise and the subsequent repopulation of many nasty critters in it's place. Your residence is now surrounded by a ring of desert and boiling toxic mud populated by komodo dragons, killer bees, and stinging nettles to name a few. I wish the details of my research project would get figured out so I'd have something to finally do!!
  17. Who says that they haven't already? Like lets say you had large canines that stuck out of your lips. Wouldn't that have a sluring effect on your speach?
  18. Umm they can't evolve to reproduce, since you have to reproduce to evolve...
  19. Well it does for me if it's caused by dehydration. But there can also be other causes for headaches, and in those cases a glass of water wont work.
