  1. Big toenail got grown in and infected, base of the nail came loose. Gave it a hard yank, but the nail was still firmly attached from about halfway up to the distal end. Totally ripped off. I've never seen a toe bleed so much before. One of my worst mistakes ever. I don't think I've ever felt such excruciating pain before.

Toenails are a funny thing though, I ripped my big toenail almost completely off (literally 90 degrees to the toe and just attached at the base) when I was 16, and would NOT let a doctor anywhere near it, even though later the same day I actually had to have stitches in my hand (ouch in itself, and yes, I was a clumsy child).  I wonder if it's because it's so painful to damage your toenails in the first place, I really didn't want anyone interfering with it.  I strapped the toenail back down and let it get on with it.  Of course I then had to work out how to stop nail regrowth from turning into an ingrowing nail (tucking little bits of toilet tissue under the corners!), but it's fine now :)

Y'all know the saying that a kick in the nuts is probably the worst pain a man can experience? I may confidently assure you that this was far worse. I believe the word 'excruciating' was invented for such things.

I haven’t had the toe nail thing so I won’t be able to compare but I can share that a rupture in my lower  spine last year (L5/S1) pushing tissue against my spinal cord resulting in my left buttocks, left leg and left foot being cut off from my neural control was a pain beyond anything I experienced before. When the painkillers stoped working after a few months I had 0.8L of whiskey with my buddies hoping that it will soothe the pain for a small while at least. The pain was exactly the same while I was totally drunk, even the hangover wasn’t a thing because the pain was always there at the same ridiculous level. This was like having pain probes fed straight into my brain  ,which considering my condiction is probably a good analogy. Ah, the relief when the operated on me, best feeling I can remember for a long time.

I’d go see a doc anyway if I were you btw.
