Hey guys, I am just a simple high school student in a one-year physics course who wants to improve his ability in applied science and using physics to create new things (my dream is to be an inventor) I always had this idea of a Maglev (electromagnetic) hover car where it uses the messier effect and superconductivity for magnetic levitation and Faraday’s electromagnetic induction principal to generate electricity give it the ability to recharge its motor if it runs on newly built magnetic roads. I am a high school junior, a first-year physics high school student, so I don’t know if my physics reasoning is good enough and if I am actually typing in wrong physics…

Saw this group online and they've been working with electrically conductive carbon paint, and painting electrical circuits and drawing stiches and etching wires, it's really cool and would make a great science project at schools

Hi, I have a glider project, but I have no idea on how to do it. I need to do my own design. The glider that I need should travel greater that 5 meters, and should travel in a straight line. I tried to make one but its always make turns and travels with a shorter distance. I don't know what are the functions of each part of the glider, or what are the causes why its like that. Can someone help me with this project??

Hey, I am new here. I was thinking before is this possible to to accelerate a thermal neutron in a modified cyclotron that does not use magnets but back ground radiation somehow to a very high speed to hit fissionable material that will in turn create electricity?

Hi everyone, I'm just about in the home-stretch of my high school science project, which aimed to create a "cruelty-free" substitute for fur requiring less petroleum than currently available synthetics by using H. erinceus, a mushroom covered in very fine spines resembling fur, as the primary material. After conducting the bulk of my expieramentation, I was excited to find the resulting fabric has commercial potential- as a leather substitute. The only problem is that, over the last five months I've been researching like crazy and now have 19 pages worth of research primarily on the fur industry. Does this new development mean all that research was a waste? Should I t…

Good afternoon! My daughter did this years science fair experiment on how temprature effects borax crystal growth. Her hypothesis was that colder conditions would grow crystals faster than warmer condidtions. By the time she got to recroding her findings she seemed to have shifted and was recording the size of the crystals (which one was larger) rather than which one formed first (which she does have that information, just not in great detail). I say all this to give just a little background. So, she was chosen to move on to the regional science fair (got 3rd place at her school) and she was told that she can use the judges/teacher comments to make changes to her board (c…

This is how I made this Vacuum Bell Jar system for use in laboratory. You can use several sizes of bells (kitchen glass bowls) and you can input electricity through the 4 spark plugs.

Alright so I'm looking to start a coilgun or rather coilguns project. I have a lot of it worked out already... But inevitably I want to make sure that said coilgun will fall just short of ripping apart the space-time continuum! Yes it seems a little shall we say overly ambitious but it sounds like it could be fun! . So here is my question, for the number of stages i should use from my understanding a multistage will produce much more power out of the gun. Is this correct or not? Any opinions are more then welcome on what supplies are going to be used. I know I'm being a little vague on this but I do need to get off to bed.

Is there a way for me to make my own transmitter and Receiver system right from the scratch to be used for the RC hovercraft I am working on or should I opt for buying one? If there is, can somebody show me the right path for the same??

Proposal: The Universe we live in was initiated as a pinpoint location of the brief meeting/collision of two or more distinct objects--one being of a Planck-oriented space-time region, similar as our own (illustrated in the photo below) , and one of an unknown particle composition (perhaps dark matter-composed) structure(s). We see in the pictures below an impression of what is clearly a debris remnant of a lattice field, most likely of space-time dynamical origin, an immensely expanded, yet preserved impression in the first light of the CMB. This space-time shard is encircled by a larger ring (see pic#4 of 4). If Planck length can be used to determine the size of the…

Hi. I'm building a coil gun. It's got 2 2700 uf capacitors at 400 volts each. I'm going to wire them in parallel. I also have 2 40 amp 600 volt rectifier diodes with an 800 amp surge rating (1N1190AR) and I don't know where to put them. I'm going to use 2 SCR switches (S6070WTP-ND) in parallel. I know I need to protect the SCRs from reverse current as well as the capacitors and the charging circuits. can someone please help me out?

Hello everyone. I am building a coil gun and I have come to a dilemma, which brings me here. For the most part every coil gun I have seen uses a projectile similar to a bullet and a barrel. Why has no one used a projectile thats a foil shaped ring riding on the outside of the barrel instead of a bullet on the inside. I'm considering testing this on a small scale to see if it travels farther/faster. I believe that a ring that rides directly over the coils would have a better magnetic attraction. Which leads me to a few questions; is there a greater magnetic field on the inside of a coil opposed to the outside of a coil? Do you believe a O shaped bullet would fly well, or w…

i am planning on building a coil gun, and i am wondering if i could use a car ignition coil instead of capacitors, because they can generate large amounts of voltage in a short amount of time. i know i would need to arrange the circuits differently from a normal coilgun, but is it possible?

First, I tell you how this idea was born. I am experienced in meditation about 9 years. My goal was to reach nirvana. And once it happened. I sat in a room and saw a matter around me like non-existent. Then I saw a huge dark black hole with huge gravity around. My mind disappeared and only dark hole was present. I clearly saw like all around world, all matter was like illusion, even a sunlight was an illusion. In other words, matter does not exist at all. My mind was shocked, how it is possible ? Then I started to understand, it was not a hallucination. Abot 3 years I explored in meditation what a nirvana is. First, nirvana …

Hello everyone, I play an old school PBM game and need help trying to pin down a formula to use to determine encumberance. I'm not a numbers guy but it seems like it shouldn't be all that complicated for someone in the know to figure out. If you're interested, I can send you a copy of the chart along with some information on armor/weapon weight. Thanks! Mike

This is the concept. 12 volt system/to 120 ac We have a 130amp truck alternator that I want to put in a water proof container with a either chain drive or belt drive to a underwater ( must be completly submerged ) waterwheel or a fan ( thinking of a prop off a marine engine ) we have at least 24 feet per second of water flow at the height of summer. with 130 feet per second flow at spring thaw. It is a 450 foot run to the batteries we have from the river. would 12 gage wire work? Do not know enough about using a gear or set of gears to run the system as i am worried the belt drive would be labor intensive. We have the alternator, 12 6volt batteries and 3 inv…

Hi all this is my first post on the forum so here goes. I have made a small wind turbine and was thinking on how to work out the power it generates. Please let me tell you a bit about it. I rotates un- loaded at 840 rpm, so I was looking at the best rpm would be about 420rpm. I was thinking on getting it to lift some weight or do some work. due to it's high RPM I was looking at getting going un-loaded and seeing how much it can lift before it stalls the blades or stops going round. for an example if it lifted a 4kg weight 1 mtr is one second that would be 39.2 watts of energy. would this be a good method to work out how much power the turbine would be rated or is…

Hi, I'm new here. I have a YouTube channel based solely on micrographs I recorded myself. http://www.youtube.com/Microgrammer I could use advice also on how to improve my recordings, and what sort of thing people like to see. I haven't been getting any comments or likes, so I must be doing something wrong. What would YOU like to see? Thanks!

Hey sometimes I want to laugh and learn at the same time but Youtube rarely has those kinds of videos. Have you guys found any videos like this? of course there is Charlie is so cool like and his videos are good, but he isn't that frequent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lf4ZmWc_jmA I've found this guy but he's not that funny: (he tries though) Egoraptor's sequelitus videos are extremely funny but not related to science, but they did teach me a lot about game design: thanks guys

Hey everyone, I am new to the forum so I wanted to introduce myself and say Hi. My name is Pete and I live in sunny Florida. I have had some problems with various surfboard holders for cars and would like to make my own that I know will work. My idea is to take a magnet, most like a Neodymium manget since they are strong. I want to use that as a base that I can stick to the roof of my car (using a protector for the paint). This piece would basically hold my board using a system of bars that are connected to the magnet and will hold the board in place on top of the car. I need to determine what size magnet I will need, since different magnets have different …

My name is Serena Nicoll. I am 12 years old. I am doing a science project investigating how students from different types of schools understand conservation of mass and volume. I am asking for your help in two ways. First, can you and your children ages 9 and older please take a survey? To fill out the survey, please visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/L77RJKX . Second, can you please share this post so that everyone will see it? I am trying to get as many people from around the world to take this survey as possible. If everyone takes the survey and tells their friends, I will have a really great study! Thank you so much for your support!
