I'm back to beg satiety of the knowledge i hunger for. Please help where you can. Why is the musical octave divided into twelve intervals? is there a universal mathmatical reason, or is it just cultural (as in, this is the way European music evolved, which is the basis of everything we listen to) What would music sound like if we divided it in intervals with relationships to the golden mean? I don't necissarily need an answer to this one if someone can tell me where i can find a program where you can type in a specific number of hertz and listen to the results. It seems like it would be an exteremly simple feat, but i haven't found one, and i dont know how you wou…

I've searched the forums. I've searched online. I've searched high and low. I understand the principle behind them (for the most part - but any in-depth explanations would be cool.) But I can't find what I want. So, HOW can I make a refrigerator from parts readily available (like, go to hardware store, etc) that is reasonably safe and (probly) legal? P.S.: I did find one design, but it didn't really show me what I wanted.

Anyone know where I can't get information on adhesives. I'm particularly after comparisons on Araldite, Loctite, RTV and Dymax. The web just takes me to sales and promotions. I want to know things like cure times, applications, strengths, durability, temperature limits, etc, etc. Thanks

So, I've been studying and i would like some opinions on the Bermuda Triangle. Thus far i have not found any geographical or climatological basis on which to lay the oddly large nuber of strange phenomena that claim ships and planes and such in the triangle. Im really interested in opinions. what do ya'll think?

The other day, some friends and I were hiking through the woods and we came along a big pool of clayish looking mud. It looked to be dried, but my friend through a rock into it, and when the rock splashed, it created a flower looking splash which immediately dried and stuck. No matter how big the splash was, it froze. There was a construction site near by. Any idea what could have caused this?

Human life is a journey from known to unknown. And the invariants are the bridge between known and unknown. To devise the methods of identification and application of invariants in human life, we have instituted a new subject - "invariantology". The working draft of invariantology can be found at : http://wwf.edula.com We are in the need of the help of learned people in the world to invariantology to develop the intellect of children. We are not concerned with the intellectual development of individuals, not with the scientific development or human resource development. The need of the hour is to find the ways and means to develop the intellect of the chil…

Hi. At least this will be good for science fiction... The earth and our moon are in a very delicate and precise balance of speed and interacting gravity maintaining their position. In theory¿? any force applied to the moon can change its orbit a given amount. Assumming feasability of assembling a large enough upside down propulsion rocket on the visible side of our moon (or a smaller one for long enough time) and pushing it out of orbit until it is gone, gone...spiraling out no longer on earth's orbit. Yes, many catastrophic consequences implied here, but keep the imagination on. Doing the same with Titan, if a convenient atmosphere and water and other a…

Are there any regulations which are dealing with this specific subject? I hope someone can help me to find them, or tell me more about where can I make further inquiries. Have a nice day, Zauberberg

I am posting this here because i dont know where else to put it. Does anyone know why Rasputin (Russian Romanov Mystic guy) did not die after being poisoned with cyanide two times, then shot, then beat up in the head, then shot in the head? Is there any scientific explanation for his survival through these assassination attempts? FYI: He finally died after some aristocrats had threw him under a frozen lake. He still managed to stay alive under the water for a very very long period of time, but eventually drowned.

Inspired by nature, here`s a few neat Cutesypie ideas for loved ones. if you get a sharp needle or pin and scratch the skin of a tomato lightly while it`s still growing and green the design will grow and stay there when ripe, initials are always a good one to use. but the best one is if you have an apple tree, while the apples are still green, get some black felt material, cut a small heart shape out of it and wrap it around the apple (you want the heart cutout to facing the sun idealy) when it`s ripe, you`ll get a green apple with a red heart on it, Ideal for valentines and who says Science can`t be all mushy gushy )

Hey. I need a little help. I'm trying to heat something using sodium acetate, as people on this forum suggested I do (see post Heat through wires? in this section). So...where do I get a hold of sodium acetate? Do I just pour it into what ever I'm trying to heat (shovel handle) and heat it? Or do I need to make a paste? etc. Any help would be appreciated.

  21. Hi, I am quite new to science and have been wondering what the difference between energy and matter is. Is matter just a bunch of atoms? And energy is a force? Are atoms made of energy and if so how can it be called matter when there is only energy? Sorry if these are dumb questions Thanks

hi. i'm looking for info for my science fair project (i'm in grade 8.) i know that heat can easily travel through wires. does this require many materials/large materials? (I'm building a heated snow shovel, and am trying to find a way to heat the handle enough to keep hands comfortable at the -40 degree temperatures we encounter where i live. i hope that heating the handle would not be complicated and could be done with small materials like light gauge wire and maybe AA batteries or something) obviously, i know very little about this, any help would be appreciated! thank you,

Hi, I would like to get an accurate measure of the surface temperature of an electric heating pad at each of its three settings (low - med - high). What would be the most useful type of thermometer (or other heat measuring device) that I should seek to purchase to carry out this task? Thanks, Jeekay

Here's two free science-related programs that I found fascinating. Feel free to add to the list. Avida http://dllab.caltech.edu/avida/ Avida is an auto-adaptive genetic system designed primarily for use as a platform in Digital or Artificial Life research. In lay terms, Avida is a digital world in which simple computer programs mutate and evolve. Avida allows us to study questions and perform experiments in evolutionalry dynamics and theoretical biology that are intractable in real biological system. Celestia http://sourceforge.net/projects/celestia/ Celestia is real-time 3D space simulation which lets you travel through our solar system and to over 100,0…
