  1. my parents own a natural food and vitamin/mineral shop, and I used to work there back in the day. Im by no means certified in the field, however i have read every single one of our books on the subject of natural medicine. basically it comes down to statistics suggesting that a regular supply of herbal supplements improves overall health, nutrition, performance, etc, depending on what you are working towards. however there are plenty of cases where seemingly no effect was noticable on the subject. you see it really depends on you. Ive taken many various supplements for many different reasons over the years, and have myself been most satisfied with the results. but as i said, alternative medicine may not be for everyone; it is worth a shot though. i mean, it doesnt hurt.
  2. not sure about keeping people away, but the emanating aroma off the body that garlic produces, while imperceptible to human senses will keep mosquitoes and biting flies off of you. i know this from experience. its the most natural insect repellent, and best of all it doesnt wash off in the pool.
  3. So, I've been studying and i would like some opinions on the Bermuda Triangle. Thus far i have not found any geographical or climatological basis on which to lay the oddly large nuber of strange phenomena that claim ships and planes and such in the triangle. Im really interested in opinions. what do ya'll think?
  4. yeah, and Spider-Man, Santa Clause, and the Easter Bunny are all real too. See what happens when you mess with crossing genes? Maybe we'll get a new holiday, and it'll have a milk-producing palm tree with tiger stripes and a mane as a symbol.Bad idea.
  5. interestingly enough, garlic is often classified as an herbal remedy for malfunctions of the immune system. this could and has often been attributed to garlics irristable and undeniable potent aromatic qualities personally i love the stuff, especially in soup, but the boost of the immune system in conjuction with the broths ability to decongest and its anti-inflammitory properties, it will naturally prove to be useful in many cold/allergy-type illnesses from the common caugh to the flu and strep.
  6. Let's take a logical approach to this dilemma:Webster defines "dark" as "being without light, or without much light." To understand this we must know what light is. Webster defines light as "something that makes vision possible:EM radiation visible to the human eye." Given, there is a much more profound definition for light should you ask a Nebel Prize-winning physicist. However i am educated in matters of wave propagation and photon emittence, but i'm taking it back to the concrete streets here. So darkness is a state of being without something to make vision possible, or the absence of visible EM radiation. The use of the word "much" in the definition implies that there are different levels of this state that exist. It would follow that darkness is a natural state, and not an additive substance, matter, or entity (such as, well, light for example). So this gives the conclusion that darkness is not light in any way, but a combination of the two may exist simultaneously. And as such, a state of mixed ight and dark, or just dark, may indeed be observed by human vision, in the sense that "I can see that there is not light here, therefore it is dark." Or the reciprocal, "There is darkness here, that means there must be little of no light."
  7. Hello, I am at the Air Force Academy in Colroado Springs. I graduate next year. I study Geosciences mostly, but my interest in the world around us in all facets runs deep...
  8. I must agree with thrush that our own thoughts, knowledge, actions are the ultimate determiners of our fate, and we are the only species with this capability. The cool thing is, not only do we hold this dominion over ourselves, but over any other species as well, if we so choose. So the theory of evolution as a recurring process is a little farfetched, no doubt influenced by modern fiction. However this brings another issue, if this is indeed the top of the evolutionary latter, and a fall from this point is not possible, then what comes next for human kind??
  9. I think i see what you are driving at, but I am not quite sure that "bridges" as you suggest exist so concretely. Do you think that you can clarify the nature of so-named invariant?
  10. I am currently conducting a study into the possibilities of Tsunamis of certain magnitudes interrupting oceanic currents and therefore influencing global climate. My contacts at the USGS, NOAA, and National Geogrpahic, as well have others have provided invaluable information into this subject. However, I am also interested in any thoughts any of you might have on this topic. Is it possible? Is it plausible? Is vast, global weather not succeptable to such fluctuations in one ocean region? Anything along these lines or whatever else you could add, I would greatly appreciate.
  11. Recently, TIME magazine put out a very interesting article on the science of happiness, and that the various methods of portraying the feeling, as well as the level to which it is displayed, can be attributed to a chromosomal anamoly passed on in the genetic code. Now is it just me, or can anything and everything be attributed to the "genetic code"? Shouldn't our own experience of life be ultimately controlled by us alone, God notwithstanding? Any thoughts....?
