I did measure the temp diff. in my fridge at the bottom and on the top. I got 11°C and 6°C. The problem I have is that I find that a big difference if you know that most things come with the text 'store at max 7°C' So my obvious question is why have fridges no build in ventilator. Only a small one so the temp is equal. The height diff. was about 60cm with still about 10cm room left above and below. Maybe it's a strange fridge, what are your fridge temps?

  2. I didn't know whether to put this under Relativity or Quantum mechanics... so hopefully it fits here... I was reading The Elegant Universe just now and one sentence stated that the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics cannot both be correct. I have heard this from many other sources too. What I want to know is why. In Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything I read how some scientists sent two particles 6 miles apart from each other. After making one spin, the other spun in the opposite direction accordingly and instantaniously. This is how I understand this situation: The "data" (or spin) from the first particle was "sent" to the other part…

Well evidently carbon dating does work, but how? I know it measures date by the state of the decay of the nucleus of the carbon atom---- but wouldn't it be true that none of the carbon is new? I'm i don't know when all the carbon was created or surfaced or whatever, but i know i'm not made of new carbon. My body is made from eating food that ate food that ate food--- shouldn't the carbon i'm made of really be as old as anything ancient as found in dinosaurs? So you see what i'm saying-- i don't understand how you can tell the age of it if i know i'm also made of ancient atoms, how come i dont have a carbon dating of a bazillion years (well i haven't recently got my carbo…

we ALL know how huge nukes can be, but there`s such a thing as a "battle feild" nuke that can be launched in a Tank shell ! So, `im left wondering how small can these little phukerz get? grenade sized? sure... it`s all about "Critical Mass" so I was originaly thinking such a device would have to be the size of a BIG CAR, I was wrong! where does it end, so to speak? I kinda thought anything less than a few 10`s of Kilograms would be unviable and just make a dirty bomb (now all the CIA`s looking at this post ) but I seriously want to know how tiny (comparatively) these things can be. IF anyone reading this DOES know, please keep it vague!

What do you think is a better approach in research (and why): a) Use a technique you're highly experienced in to test many different systems/theories, or b) Use many different techniques to explore the particular problem/area you are interested in. I ask this because I think if you want to make money in science you choose path a) but if you are really into academic research and problem solving you'll choose path b).

Here`s an Idea I`ve been tinkering with in my head ever since I saw a twin Tesla Coil arrangement. Forgive me if I get the polarities wrong, but so long as they`re different, it`s easily corrected. the Earth has a possitive charge and the sky and clouds have a negative charge, occasionaly it will build up and we`ll get lightening. Electricity always takes the shortest path, and so ligtening will strike the tallest and or most conductive path to Earth. now on a golf course it may happen to be a tree or a man about to take a swing with his club. currently (excuse the bad pun) we use strips of metal on a high point to conduct this lightening safely to earth. …

I have just gradded out of secondary school and would like to find a job where I can be around science (physics and cutting edge engineering mainly) R&D. I imagine there are clerical and go-fer jobs somewhere out there in areas like this. I would like to know where I should be looking for jobs like this and if they are common enough to make an attempt at finding. Also, what kind of entry level opportunities are available at R&D firms etc? I have computer/internet graphics experience and manufactoring and warehouse experience, if that helps. I plan on studying physics and engineering later on, and wouldn't mind being a shoe-in after graduation. I a…

I read in my biologu book that carbon(and other elements that compose life, besides water) is not a very abundant element on earth, and yet we are made of it, so where does it come from? Well since we eat other things, it comes from them, but where to plants get theirs from? I know photosythesis preforms chemical reactions, but it obviously doesn't transform more abundant elements into the one we use (that would require nuclear power right?). So i think the soil is made of carbon (a stupid thing to say, it must be, but give me a break, i'm an undilligent highschool student), so plants get nutrients from soil. Where did all the soil come from? Far as i know its mostly dec…

Is there anyone here that knows a little about Laser behavior? I have 5 lasers here, 4x 3mw and 1x 10Mw. the 10mw laser will raise thermometer temp by roughly 5 degrees C, the 3mw lasers barely over 1 deg C. so I focused all 4 lasers onto the same thermometer, expecting about a 4 deg C rise in temp, and I may as well have just used one? there was no significant difference???? why is that?

well this might not have much application in real life, except adding credibility to a science fiction concept, but i was wondering----- would it be possible that if a small planet, say half the size of earth had a core (not the whole thing so dense so life couldn't develop(well i guess that doesn't matter a ton, but it would make the possibility more interesting)) of a certain mass dense enough that it could have gravity equal to earth (but the planet itself being significantly smaller). Or would such great masses (actually that would still be a lot less than something like a black whole) crunch down the matter around it to equal density, or something? What could possibl…

What is this drug? Does it cause euphoria? It is said not to be dangerous. Is it common then? Available over the counter? I laughed out loud when I heard the commercial. "Prior to visiting us, merely take a small pill and your visit will be relaxed and enjoyable." Hah, how many sensless, mass-minded soccer moms do they plan on getting addicted to the dentist? They are gonna make a killing off of this new little campaign. Advertising recreational drug use over the radio, thats hillarious. What if you took the pill and tripped out in the middle of traffic? Very amusing. "No ociffer, the dentist told me to." Enough of that, I'm gonna go grab a bee…

SO. do you guys think the American population should have the influence that it does on the way scientific research and/or methods are practiced? trying to get some input here since I'm supposed to have my topic picked two weeks ago.... it's for an argumentative essay for english... personally, I think the influence should be lessened greatly, people who can't look further than the next week or so and don't understand what they're viewing have no place in saying what's what

I was chatting to a friend the other day, said he couldn`t sleep because he couldn`t resolve why 2 parts H and 1 part O as a gas when mixed doesn`t turn to water, I explained that, so no problems there... he went on to ask about water and a kazillion other things etc... between us we came up with a neat Idea (potentialy) for an engine, it seemed perfectly feasible at the time, I want to share it with you, and see what you all think, If it`s crap, move it to Pseudo Science... air`s 21% O2. so 5 parts Air to 1 part Hydrogen (molar) would roughly be the ideal combustion ratio. but it burns at about 3000 K (a big waste of heat for an engine!). So... Air/Hydrogen and a…
