What is everyones opinion on which level of physics you should take? College Physics is algebra based and alot simpler, University Physics is calculus based and alot harder, but gives you a better understanding. Obviously if you're a physics major you should take calc based, but what about if you're in another major?

Three months ago today, on July 4th 2002, ScienceForums.net went online. Here's some statistics so far: We have had 3002 total posts in 275 threads from 87 members, making the average posts per member at 34.5 and the posts per day average at 31.2. However, the Top 5 Posters account for 2009 (66.9%) of all posts, with aman being the #1 poster with 484 posts (16%). The most posts occured on July 27th, with 208, the same day we had the most new users (11). We had 1625 posts in July, 744 in August, 553 in September, and 56 so far in October, this obviously isn't a good trend;) The most users ever online was 72, on July 7th, thanks to jinx spamming and impersonating me. …

Hey guys, i've started thinking seriously about where i want to go to school and how to get there. Im looking to go into engineering, anyone know of any good scholarships out there for that? Im in Nebraska, and i'm looking to go out of state if possible, but not too far from home. I was looking at Iowa State. Since there's a lot of people on here that are currently in college, thought i'd ask. What are some good tips to do in high school to help out with college/scholarship acceptance? I've taken the ACT once, last june, got a 29 on it. broke down to: eng: 22, reading: 28, math:32, sci: 34. Since that was after my Sophmore year, im looking for a few higher points, …

What are your thoughts on this guy? I think he saw the movie red dragon, and that inspired him to leave the note "I am God". For those that havn't seen it, a reference is made to serial killers feeling like "god", though I'm not sure they consider him a serial killer. I thought serial killers usually had a break between each murder. I don't know if he'll be caught though, there are lots of murderers that go uncaught. Maybe if he makes a stupid mistake. The more they kill the more invincible they feel, and the more prone to being caught they are. I say if we catch him, we should lock him in a room with a loop of Celine Dion playing, that'll teach him

Otherwise, I was wondering if anyone was interested in becoming an author for my article/news website located in my signature. If so please email me at: ghb@uwm.edu At the end of your writing you could even provide a link back to scienceforums.net, I don't mind. Glad to be here!

We had a guy in our school today who has his PhD in psycology (sp?). Anywayz the guy was saying, remember you can do anything you put your mind to. Telling us the story of the Russian who broke the record thinking that he was pulling his normal amount (im sure u heard it before) Anywayz, the guy starts his "magic" crap. I was the volunteer. He told me to pick a pack of gum, pick a color pick a direction, and pick a country. Right it down on a peice of paper. And then keep it, and orally read it. Well he had his wallet on the floor. And said to pick it up, and take the paper out of it. It had all the stuff i picked on it. How the hell is this scie…

I was searching Google for phrases to determine our page ranks for some search terms... I searched for "zarkov" and among the first page results were numerous references to the use of DMT. Not only is this ironic because I just mentioned DMT (dimethyltryptamine) in another thread, but because it's what our dear friend must have been smoking when he came up with his ideas. (For those who don't know, DMT is a hallucinogen that is more powerful than LSD, you completely lose control of your body and for hours (~20 minutes 'real' time) you're basically in a whole different universe.)

considering adding more forums, and removing some. Heres what I was considering adding: Earth sciences (geology, meteorology) Human Sciences (anthro, archaeology, psych, misc human studies, all in one or two forums...not a bunch of little specific ones) maybe an ethics section of some sort, science & ethics or something maybe philosophy (don't want to stray far from the topics, but an idea nonetheless) Considering removing: Biomedical Engineering Industrial Engineering Music Engineering Civil Engineering I was considering merging some of the forums, but there is no way to do that without losing data in the forums..so fo…

Over the past year I've noticed something regarding views of science from various professors at my school. It seems as if professors in the liberal arts and humanistic departments of school tend to view science as something that is dictated by culture. Seems like they feel that science is directed by culture. However, over in the science department, we're taught that science is above culture. Science is a "way of thinking", that is not bound by or limited to ones culture. How do you guys see it?

I've just been reading a thread about quantum "teleportation," & it got me thinking: People seem to assume that, as past achievements had been considered "impossible" but then achieved, the same must be true for what is currently impossible. Past "Impossibles:" If man was meant to fly, god would've given him wings. It is "impossible" to fly faster than sound. Humans will never travel in space. Some conclude that: We will learn how to travel faster than light. We will learn how to teleport matter. We can master the art of becoming invisible. We will discover how to travel through time. The general idea is of you can write a Sci-Fi book about it…
