Hi all, I’m currently creating a sci-fi animated film in my spare time for fun. I have some questions on the content which I would like you to look at. Before I actually turn this into a collaborative team project I need to iron out all the cheesy factors in the story. I'm worried about spending a few years on this only to find major holes in the story line. My knowledge on science is poor so I'm hoping I could get some really basic help on realising my script. Firstly, in the story there is a new rocky planet similar to Earth discovered by scientists. A shuttle is sent to this planet and returns with samples. How long would it take for a shuttle to reach …

I've been hearing lots of varying reviews of Michael Crichton's book Next. Has anyone read it? I'm not sure I want to buy it yet...I might wait until it comes out on paperback...if it's as good as his others...

Remember Michael Brown, the man who was qualified to run FEMA because he ran horse shows? His number 2 man at FEMA was equally well qualified: Former television reporter Patrick Rhode. Now the Bush administration has blessed NASA with Rhode's space expertise. From http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/12/AR2007011201671.html: Patrick Rhode, who was chief of staff and deputy director of FEMA under Michael Brown, was hired as a senior adviser to NASA Administrator Michael Griffin on communications issues, NASA spokesman David Mould said.

Found this while browsing the net... It's another anti-gravity idea But hey, we've gotta keep thinking right? But anyway I'd just thought you guys might like to dissect it (er, tear it to shreds, whichever suits your tastes ). BTW, did anyone see that Popular Science article on Nasa building their superconductor thing? I haven't seen an article on how it turned out...which I assume means failure but I'd still like to know what EXACTLY happened, if anything. Thanks ~JT EDIT: Er, here is the guy's idea; this is NOT my work:

What does everyone think of the book, 'The God Delusion' by Richard Dawkins? I've not read it myself, but I'm sure if Richard Dawkins would have read my book first he would have not bothered publishing it. Ha ha! No disrespect to the man, I think he's very intelligent but certain information is being kept from him in my opinion. I wish he could address my book and make some comments on my findings, I'd love to see how he explains all 400 facts and evidence thats recited in my book. What do you think? So school starts back next week for me at Middle TN State U I am taking my last 6 hours and graduating in May I am an online student, and one of our requirements is for a culminating project that we have to come up with on our own.... I am a Liberal Studies Major with Minors in Psychology and Sociology... I have also been working for the Tennessee Department of Transportation for 11 years... so I was kind of trying to come up with a project where I could relate my school work to my job... the first thing that comes to mind for me is Road Rage ... but I am having a hard time coming up with what I could do with that (without putting my own life and limb in harms way)...…

I am not a Christian. I am non-religious. But my wife is a Christian. I write this thread so I can ask other Christians here for advice on a family issue. My daughter Lily lately has experimented with jewellery, just a plain gold necklace. She's only a little girl so I don't think jewellery is a good idea as she might lose it. But she loves wearing it. It makes her very happy, so I let her wear it because it's only $50. My wife found out that Lily was wearing jeweller and she got very angry. She told me that the bible forbids women from wearing jewellery. I said, "Prove it," and she took out the Holy Bible and pointed to Peter 3:3, which says "Your beauty should n…

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6230945.stm Wondering what peoples opinions are on this? Are the people complaining simply religious nuts or is there actually a valid ethical argument (I don't see how "it is against nature !!" is really any argument at all)? If you agree with this (ie with the research), any thoughts ? If you are an expert in the area, could you explain a little of the likely benefits and perhaps some of the potential downsides ? If you don't, can you please explain why... (I honestly can't see it, although I will admit my understanding of the subject area is horribly inadequate).

We are all familiar with the dating methods and everything, but what if they are way out? Has anyone heard of George Dodwell an Autralian astrologer? He looked at all the different facts that show the earth has been at different tilts in the past. Plotted these on a graph and showed the correlation with a spinning top when being she struck by an object. There was a correlation and appeared to him that the earth has been wobbling for the last few thousand years, as though it had been struck around 4500 years ago. Hmm it suddenly occured to me that I haven't whored The Perry Bible Fellowship on SFN... at least I don't recall doing so. Anyhow, it's a great webcomic and quite possible the most ingenious one around. Ever. Updated around once a week. With very diverse and sometimes rather dark humor. Check it out at http://www.pbfcomics.com/ Also, if you've been seeing strange dreams about ancient gods awakening in underwater cities recently you might want to check out Goomi's Unspeakable Vault (Of Doom) at http://www.macguff.fr/goomi/unspeakable/home.html . Considering this is a science forum I'll have to mention it has occasional geometry and physics related jokes. An…

You can date old timers by the fact if they have used or still use Pegasus Mail by David Harris. I'm one of those old timers and have been using Pmail as it is called for short for around a dozen years now. I went to the official website today and much to my dismay, I discovered financial difficulties have finally killed off Pegasus Mail. This is such a sad day. I now have a dozen years of email built up that needs to be migrated to something else and never have I seen an email client that handled spam any better than Pmail. Deep down I knew this day would eventually come, but this is like the death of an old friend. I wonder if there are any migration too…

  25. World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade comes out on the 16th. Thats a Tuesday so I can't do it right away, I'll have to wait till Friday. So I'll be playing from around 3 or 4 PM Friday until the same time Saturday. What do you think, can I do it? It's going to require a lot of energy drinks and hot pockets if I do.
